ND1: Wonderless Terra

We do have more than 2 swords...something like 5-6 in Turfan when I checked.

There are actually two Elephants on that tile, along with an Ax and a Worker...the Worker makes me think the others are just protection, but I don't think I've ever seen *that much* protection. In any event, not only do I agree that we should get some spears, I also think we need to put some effort into cutting off their ivory/copper/iron when we invade

@vovan: Farae has been MIA here and on his own SG for a while now, I think he's really busy right now. If he doesn't got it by tomorrow night, I say go ahead and take it.

Forgot about the Heroic Epic...damn...yes we have 11 swords, not 2.....

So I played the turn, got us into not one, but two wars :hammer:, captured us a city or two, and other such nice stuff, and then, on the last turn, POW, blue screen of death. The turn and the report are as if they had never existed. Meh. I don't feel up to playing through it again right now. I'll do it first thing in the morning (or that is, when I wake up after going to bed at 4:30am :D). Sorry 'bout that, guys.

Vovan

(0) 1070AD - First on the order of business is abandoning the Heroic Epic project in Turfan. Having done that, we queue up a Spearman. I also go through the cities, update Governor orders, and change some unit production orders (for example, I think we already have enough Keshiks. What we really need is more elephants and spears.

(1) 1080AD - Isabella doesn't want clams for fish any more and won't negotiate, oh well. Napoleon declares war on Caesar.

(2) 1090AD - The Sistine Chapel is built in a far-away land. In other news, I am tired of peace. :D Time to see what Asoka has to offer. He won't give us Theology as tribute and he doesn't have any money. Of course I hope he realizes that this means war. :hammer: We are pretty lucky with combat and only lose one elephant when attacking that "worker protection" stack across the border. :) (Last time I played, I lost all elephants and a swordsman! One tile into Indian territory, we have Bombay, protected by a longbowman, a spearman and an archer. Troops from Turfan are moved there across the border. Captured worker starts building roads to expedit troop movement.

(3) 1100AD - Caesar wants us to cancel our deals with French. I forget, but I think we like French more than him. I do, at any rate. ;) So he can go shove his demands some place remote.

(4) 1110AD - We take Bombay at the loss of a catapult. :) Troops keep rolling north where we discovered Calcutta. Taking it will divide Asoka's empire into two. We also kill the protecting Axeman and pillage their ivory resource. They may have more, but hopefully not. :) Incidentally, Calcutta is only protected by a longbowman and an archer. We should be able to take it, as with the pillaging Keshiks running around, reinforcements aren't about to arrive. :) Also to the East we discover Madras. Protection: Axeman, Longbowman, two Archers. Also, there's a galley and a settler in there.

(5) 1120AD - Machinery is discovered. Guilds is queued up, so ok. Asoka adopts Theocracy.

(6) 1130AD - More pillaging and exploration of the Indian territory going on. Troops approaching Calcutta.

(9) 1160AD - Calcutta is taken. The entire Indian nation is explored: they have 4 more cities. Only one really well protected - the capital. Pretty much all resources are pillaged, and most mines are, as well, to kill their production.

(10) 1170AD - Feel free to move the units as you please. You should be able to take Madras soon. Then, just throw all the forces towards the capital. We should be able to overpower Asoka without too many problems, especially now that elephants are starting to roll in at a consistent pace, and he doesn't actually have any more ivory to build some of his own. One thing I really should have done but didn't was pillage their copper resource. :( I was exploring with Keshiks, and it is protected by a spear, so I was sort of waiting for swords to arrive to take them out, and then never got around to it... Meh. Really, once that is gone, they won't be able to build any units other than longbows, and that's nice, as they won't be trying to mount an offensive with those.

Sorry for brief report and no screenies, but I am sort of in a hurry now, and those screenies I took last night kinda no longer apply.

Vovan

Got it.

I've got some furious paper writing to do in the next 48 hrs, so it may be a bit. Here's some screenies in the meantime:

Gahhh...still with lots of writing to do tonight, but I played a couple turns just to keep things going:

(0) Kill some 'paults near Bangalore. Pillage near Delphi. Otherwise healing and maneuvering. Madras might take longer than expected; we are not in good position to take it down right now.

(1) 1170 AD: Indian Ax beats Elephant on a hill  Cyrus wants to give us crap for Theology  Karakorum Sword>Spear. Getting ready to siege Madras.

(2) Napoleon also wants to give us crap for Theo. Karakorum Spear>Pault, Ning Cat>Cat, we really need more of these. Cuzco Granary>Hindu Monastery. Bombay comes online (expands immediately), starts on Longbow. I take a Catapault shot at Madras, but we're still a ways from taking it.

(3) Asoka wants peace for 40 gold  Turfan Crossbow>Pault. Calcutta comes online and suddenly we drop to -17!!! Starts on Longbow.

That's it. I'll get to the rest tomorrow. I'm excited for Guilds to come in near the end of my turn :D

I keep telling myself I'll get to this, but I'm tired of holding everything up. Since hiob is skipped and Farae's MIA, it won't be that long until it gets back to me anyway, so go ahead and take it Jeff:

ok...I'll play in the morning....I'm not a very good Civ player, I am in the learning mode...so Beware!!!!

If you're looking for guidance, I'd say taking Madras with as few casualties as possible and setting up (possibly beginning) a siege of Delhi will be your primary goal. And if you get any brilliant ideas to improve our financial situation, you'll be wayyy past the learning mode ;)

Turn 189 (1290 AD)
Wow. We have a whole lot of war weariness, and our finances are in a pretty lousy state. :) I think once we capture the last three Indian cities, it really might be time to lay off the war for a little bit and concentrate on building up the homeland.
This is especially true since we are coming closer to the point where we will need to be settling the new world, and we need to have a pretty strong economy in order to be able to grab the choicer chunks of new land.

Turn summary:

Destroyed the Indians (captured Delhi and Bangalore, destroyed Lahore: no need for a desert city, even if it has one fish resource there, I think, at least for now, might settle it later, I suppose).

Marginally improved our finances. It was -35 gpp at the beginning of the turn, with 60% science, now it is -5 gpp, I believe. (This is largely thanks to Delhi, which has the buddhist shrine, which generates 19 gpp, I think.)

Goals:

Now is the time to build up our civilization, I think.

There are some tech trades available. Might be good to look into that.

Banking coming soon. Might want to build some banks in addition to the courthouses that are already being built.

Need to heavily improve the Indian lands. We have bunches of workers. We should send them north to reimprove everything we have pillaged.

As soon as we get optics, which should be pretty soon, would be great to get some caravels, load an explorer or two on them and send them to find the new world.

Finally, sorry for the autogenerated report. :) There's much work to be done around here - the end of the semester, y'see. :)

PS: Oh, also, I sent some of the troops that were used to take over the Indian empire back south to guard the cities with unrest. Works as a temporary solution, I think, but we should probably watch our cities so they don't grow into unhappiness in the future.

Good job with the :hammer: Jeff and vovan. Got it, and will take a good long look before I start at how to improve our economy.

 So that explains it. I took a look at the +20 difference in income in the Delhi shot versus the end shot and was ready to let you run our finances for the rest of the game ;)

In my Terra experience, the AI will settle the new world quickly and indiscriminately, crippling their economies with the distance costs. This leaves an opening for us to focus on conquering the old world (better financially for us anyway), solidifying that continent, then gaining a foothold and airlifting a bunch of troops in and overwhelming them at the end game with our superior production. If you guys have other ideas though, maybe that's a good thing to discuss.
