These are the days of despair. Small states are sprouting up, slowly but surely weakening the more organized powers of the world. The obelisks to the south hold a terrible secret while the jungles to the north are the battlefield for bloody wars. It will be interesting to see if civilization can cope with these new challenges.
First we go to
Mikuena the great country of the south. Trade flows in from many countries of the north through the River Kahluen. This has brought much wealth to the country, allowing the training of a large army, which would later come in handy.
Mikuena has forged an alliance with
Caronia, increasing trade and prosperity along the western branch of the Kahluen River. However, Caronia still has problems as smugglers and thieves are moving along trade routes to Mikuena, increasing the crime rate at Mikuena and other nearby countries.
On the good side, Caronia has been investing in agriculture and roads, making it a little easier to maintain order in their country. This has pushed most crime out to the borders of the country, or to other countries as mentioned before.
On the other branch of the river, the new country, Izentear has formed. While their worship of the Sea Goddess
Izen is interesting, it has also lead to much conflict with the great beasts of the sea. While Izentear does have a good navy, fighting creatures in the sea seems to be raising some questions among Izentear citizens. Has Izen forsaken them? Or is Alheran tormenting them for worshipping Izen?
Adorin has been very busy during these times. The city recently built in Adorin has focused mainly on agriculture, allowing the capital to focus on sea trade. Also, Men between the ages of 20-30 are being given military training. This is providing many highly disciplined troops. Soldiers were told to patrol the borders of Adorin as well as cities, keeping the crime rate low and keeping order.
Adorin is also listening to their citizens grievances, making a code of laws to help ease these grievances. With these recent advances, Adorin is becoming a beacon of unity in this world.
The great beasts of the sea cant even destroy Adorins might, as the great Sea Warriors guard precious trade ships, hurling spears into the creatures eyes, their only real weak point at this time.
Now lets venture west to a little more quiet land,
Purzan. Their ships and horsemen carefully patrol the borders and protect trade. Purzan has also managed to establish a trade route with Adorin. While it isnt very profitable due to the distance between the two, it is still profitable none the less. Purzan has also managed to make a great building, the Chiefs Chamber. However, Purzans attempt to influence the villages they were near came with great consequences.
The villages are now starting to unite, attacking Purzan traders whenever they go near. These people call themselves the
Soban, the folk of the sand. So far their hit and run tactics have worked fairly well against Purzan. However, how long can this game of cat and mouse go on until Purzan destroys Soban?
Kourstani, land of the dwarves, has been rather quiet. With a new city founded, more food is being brought in. The heads on the have mountains strangely begun to smile, their faces changing while no one is watching.
Kourstani is also running into a little trouble with the Soban. While not as many attacks are reaching Kourstani, theyre still felt by the economy. However, Kourstanis new Pony-Riders have begun patrolling the lands and trade routes of Kourstani, making attacks seem a little less attractive.
And now we look north to a rainy island covered with dense rainforests. While civilization isnt as wide spread as it is on the continent to the south, countries are still forming. One such country is
Skorak. Skorak has a system of castes which decides what men do after theyre 12. Women seem to have important role in society, only there to give birth and take care of the house.
This fact is coming in handy with the brutal politics surrounding Skorak. It is currently one of three countries in the small cradle, all of whom are struggling for room. The barbarous
Lotl build their homes high up in the trees of the mighty rainforests. They are currently raiding Skorak territory, trying to gain their farmland to obtain a more steady supply of food.
The third power on the island is the
Potl, an offshoot of Lotl culture. They are to the south of Skorak, launching opportunistic raids like their cousins the Lotl. However, theyre not as focused on warfare and seem to be expanding further south down the river as Skorak and Lotl fight each other.
It should also be noted that the waters near Skorak and Lotl lack the sea monsters that plague the coasts of other landmasses.
And now for the bad news.
With the alliance between Caronia and Mikuena there came an increase in crime in Mikuena. Well, this was often taken care of by having these criminals tied to the obelisks as a form of punishment. The plan was to use the men whose minds were now broken for physical labor. And at first this seemed to work. Then something terrible happened.
The slaves began to speak. All at once. In complete monotone the insane slaves began to say We are One. We are Peace. We are All. We are Unity. As they talked they moved toward the obelisks. The obelisks themselves began to glow and eerie green glow as the sky darkened. Mikuena troops ordered the slaves to stop, but the slaves paid no heed to the troops calls.
Finally, all of them were on one side of the river , at least 1000 of them, all chanting all the obelisks pulsed with their green light. Then, they charged. They crossed the river, running past the spearmen that expected them to attack. But they never did.
The slaves ran into houses and kidnapped whomever they could, dash back across the river to the obelisks. Soon, more people were appearing on the other side of the river, chanting. It seemed that any that were kidnapped joined these insane men. Some troops slain the insane men, trying to protect the citizens from being stolen. But there were too many. They escaped across the river, and then vanished. However, their voices could still be heard, chanting endlessly.
