NES World/Regional Maps Requests Thread

In 40 years NESing will have been copyrighted and then bought out by a larger company who will let it slowly die and wonder why their cash cow is producing money. To solve the problem, they will charge more, which will do nothing but hasten its death. The future is bleak

That DEFINITELY won't happen. I don't think NESing could be easily copyrighted... and even if it is it could easily be done as it is now.

But hey, we NES for the now and the near future. Far future... who knows?

Anyway, I doubt these apocalyptic predictions.

Slap a GPL or similarly open license on the most common rulesets and it won't happen. Easy.

It would work if you had a NES map based on a globe seen from "all" angles. Much like how Erik Mesoy made his rotating spheres with GIMP, only you need as many frames along the meridian. With 20 frames in each axis (this was quite sufficient for the maps I projected spherically) it would take 400. Ouch.
60 would be enough if you rotated one-quarter along each axis in turn, until you came back to the start.

That painting is one of my personal all time favorites, you can keep your Sulia, let me bask in its glow:D

We should slap our own copyrights on the most common rulesets, bind them in books with several "campaigns", and market them as a pen-and-paper RPG. :D

The whole forum can make money!

Now THAT is genius. After we do that we need to change the ruleset every couple months, only slightly, then come out with an entirely new book for sale as the "latest edition." Newer campaigns are sold, of course packaged with a ruleset to drive up the price.

Now if you really wanted to rake in the money, you convert it from a pen and paper RPG and somehow figure miniatures in there (each one represents a division, special looking ones for myriad UUs). Thats the mint right there, with all the different country styles and time periods.

Two words for you:

Prior art.

Now, a group inventor's license might work, but the idea of copyrighting it for money is a) nauseating and b) stillborn, much like trying to copyright the Bible.

Now, will somebody give me a square map (about 500 px preferred) so that I can try to rotate it in all three dimensions?

We were kidding.

>_>

<_<

At least, I was.

I was totally kidding:mischief: *rips up patent application*

You should be more careful when joking near Erik Mesoy. I learned that when in response to a parody signature I had a while ago (back when you Americans had elections and those silly signatures; I decided to join into the fun and nominate, if I recall correctly, "das for 2004") he PMed me to ask if I was serious and promised support in case I was. I'm still not sure which one of us was the stupider for it, because I still somewhat doubt that he was serious back then. :crazyeye:

Anyway, lets get back on topic. The weekend is running out, Panda, and now it is PRECISELY eight months!

Sounds suspiciously similar to Warhammer LB.

Profound deductive skills :D Also proof that I was kidding as well. At least it was supposed to be... ;)

talk.origins has taught me that there is no parody that goes beyond reality. FSTDT didn't help either.

I've seen a copyright attempt on something "free" before, and it became an ugly argument very rapidly. I'm also a natural-born American citizien, so I can vote and run for President. We need more parties in the country, anyway.

Now, where is the square map for me to rotate!? :p

Since, I'm looking into starting a Fantasy NES at some point. I'd like a random map of a world of islands (No continents just Islands). The largest of the islands should have some mountains and rivers too. So, I'm looking for something along the lines of the world of Earthsea.

Spoiler Earthsea Map :

I could make something like this:

It was done in two minutes with the GIMP, and not much thought, so I could tweak the settings and the gradients and the colors a lot. Is it at all in the right direction?

Hmm... I think I'll rotate it, just for practice. Give me five minutes.
