NES World/Regional Maps Requests Thread

How did you make that North America map,
An existing one and Photoshop.

and are you planning on making similar ones for other parts of the world (or the globe as a whole)?
To the former: unless I get accurate base maps, no, and to the latter: been done, only difference is styling.

The whole world at that scale? I didn't find it.
There's no reason to make it that big and furthermore if it were it would break your (plural) computers.

Retroactive deletion.

ooh, thats kinda cool :)

No, ArcGIS.

One thing I've always wanted to do, is it possible to shift the axis of a map in a program like that? IE: Make the international date line the equator.

So, flip the Earth 90° and slide it the IDL? I don't see why not, though actually doing it might be vaguely complicated and require some trial-and-error, but there's no real reason it couldn't be done.

I had a similar idea a few months ago.
I remember running into a website that can draw any map projection of the world from any reference point and orientation. The only bad thing was that its map size was quite small (smaller than the computer screen). There you can try various orientations to find what looks the best, and then do the rotation you liked most in a more advanced map program to obtain a good map.
Google for "map projections" etc. and try to find it.

Or North Pole 0-90-0.

It looks best on Mollwiede.

It completely changes the nature of the world. Africa is a frozen continent, 'Northern' Canada is a tropical archipelago.

Awesome! Thanks for the link icarus!
Couldn't agree more. That was a highly fascinating read. A fresh start based on his ideas would be incredible.

Lets draw that map.
Why would you draw it? :p

I swear, it's like showing off an atomic bomb and hearing all the Generals murmur about carpet-bombing...

What do you suggest? Use the maps provided on the site? Or are you just picking at the fine details of 'draw' as something you do on paper?
