NES World/Regional Maps Requests Thread

I've made space maps before... though I currently lack the time. Abaddon- don't force your ways on others! :p

NK or Thlayli, which of you was the primary map maker for PureNES?

I have a friend working on re-tooling a mapping program he has to produce a map for the 40k game. Currently he uses it to a run a BattleTech game, so the basics are already there. I'll come back with a sample when we're closer to the finished product.

Failing that, I'll just get another friend to make up a map in Campaign Cartographer.

I'm looking for a map of Japan, preferably with provinces and cities. I seem to recall someone making a NES map of the Sengoku / Warring States period, but I don't know where I can find it... If anyone would help me either finding it or make a new one, I would very much appreciate it.

It depends. I want to know what favor you ask in return first. :p

Seriously, I could pretty much go for the Toukon II, but I'd like to make a deal we both would gain from... The question is really how your converted map will look like. I really like the small provinces on the Toukon map, but it lacks the detailed terrain view on the other. On the other hand, it would be silly to draw all those tiny borders on top of the terrain - which would force a blank map to be made first. That would kind of defeat the purpose, since I could use both of your links to achieve the same. Still, if you say you can make a better province map by converting the other one, I'm willing to cut a deal.

  eek (oops)

 Okeh...

I would very much like a separate map for terrain, with contours like on the original. I don't want to clutter up the political/region map with it. Also, the regions should be split up so that fertile/central areas are more worth and thus smaller in size. If you could add cities and roads as well; I encourage you to be creative here and not just copy off a source map. Thing is, I'm not planning to run a conventional alt. hist. on this one. ;)

There's only one specific request, and that is to leave much of the northeast barren, and also, don't emphasize the RL trade ports of Nagasaki, Hakata and possibly Yamaguchi as well. There are no Portuguese in the setting I'm planning. ;) Lastly, I'll pretty much be your slave if you make this map for me. :worship:

Nah, I'm fine. Plus I'm an android, so I don't have any blood to sign with. Plus from what I gather from Symph's post, I won't be bothered by his task for me. I wonder what I get to beta test, though. :D

I'm currently planning to start a fantasy NES based of the Lodoss franchise and thus I'll need a blank map for it.

The map should be completely blank with only rivers, lakes and mountains visible on the land. Basically, the mountains as they are on the first map, and the rivers and lakes as in the second one.

In other words, could someone make a usable blank NES map out of this?

Anyone able to take this request...?

...Are those two of the same island? They look distortedly different, like it's an Age later after continental drift. Anyway, I've run an edge-detect and trace on the first one now, so I have its coastline...

Please detail request.

Yes, both depict the same island.

Nothing all that special. The map should be a blank white map, with rivers, lakes (both can be seen clearly on the second map) and mountains (can be seen on the first map, might be a bit hard to see though).

I can easily translate the place names on the second map, if you require it.

EDIT: And I applaud on your avvie! :D

OK. Remember that all these names are translated via romanization (i.e. converting roman words so Japanese people can pronounce it) and might be vaguely different. I don't know the setting at all, so I might make some mistakes trying to translate it back to English, but I guess you can fill those in with your knowledge of the original work (Record of Lodoss War). I just go with what sounds most reasonable, looking at the syllables.

Starting from northwest:

Raiden, obviously. The one to its southeast is named "Fire" "Dragon" "Mountain", but I guess it's easier to go with the first map's translation: "Fire Dragon Mts." here.

The one on the western coast is named "Misty".

The one south from it is named "Dragonbreath"

The southernmost of the "Orion belt" is named Walt/Wort's Tower. The middle and the last one, I assume, are the entrances to "The Great Dwarven Tunnel".

The one directly east of Dragonbreath is called "Dragonscale".

Going north, we have "Troll Cave" and "Uzu" north of it.

The one in the middle of the lake is named "Carla's Mansion".

Going southeast, we find "The Deepest Labyrinth", between Carla's Mansion and "Roid".

On the island south of Roid we find "Minotauros' Labyrinth".

The mountain far southeast of Roid is called "Shininghill".

NNW of Shininghill is "Adan" (or perhaps "Ardan"? ;))

Traveling east, we find "The Forest Ruins", and "Shiningtree" right east of it.

NNE of Shiningtree is "Allan".

Northeast of Allan is "The Assassin's Hideout".

Traveling north, we first find "Goblin Cave", then "Zaxon" and "Tarba".

Northwest of Allan is Novice, which is east of "The Pyramid".

In the middle of the desert lies "The Oasis", with "Blade to its NNW.

That's all. :)

Who cares? It's obvious that the first one was drawn as an original, and the second one is stylicized for simplicity.

Eh. "Stylicized" would have been where you look at each square and average the terrain in that square. The second one is different. For example, the two islands on the lower left. And it's too much of a pain for me right now to re-interpret one map onto the other. :p
