NES World/Regional Maps Requests Thread

Heh. That's the third time the link to that appears here.

It's interesting, as are his other worlds, though the occasional ideological and misanthropical outbursts in the comments are frankly annoying. He has a point about humans as such being unlikely to evolve on Jaredia, however; and that alone would make for a very different fresh start.

What do you suggest? Use the maps provided on the site? Or are you just picking at the fine details of 'draw' as something you do on paper?
It's not a fine detail at all. Drawing is creating the map manually or by other, non-mechanical processes, and is inherently inaccurate. Digitally manipulating a known map in a fairly precisely, mathematically determined (like above) is always going to be better, unless you're creating a new world by hand. There's no reason to do that for Earth, though.

Theoretically, if I had a Transverse Mercator projection, I could do that right now to just show you, but hours of searching have not really produced any meaningful results as it's supposed to be there, but isn't (or doesn't work properly). I'll take a look at the University's copies later and see if I can't find something, though.

I agree with this as well, about the annoying comments. However, I do think that a fresh start actually sporting humans, however unlikely in this world, would be more entertaining than trying to be (semi-)realistic and use some other species. It should be different enough just with the climates to provide the interesting variety.

This isn't quite perfect either but it's useful for showing the idea:

You should be able to figure out what this is, but if you can't, it's Lunar topography at around 1:25,000,000 scale (very rough calculations). Personally I figure things without atmospheres (or, without ice-caps at the poles) should be dual Stereographic instead of Robinson, since those regions might be useful in-game (rather more so than the equator, actually, given constant sunlight or shade).

Dots are obviously better than lines for doing transformations, although cleaning them up afterwards will be somewhat difficult on any map that is not "for play".

guys, the next time someone does the world map, can you clean up Nunavut please? the lobster really bugs me.

and what it should be (from repulse bay up)

Or North Pole 0-90-0.

It looks best on Mollwiede.

It completely changes the nature of the world. Africa is a frozen continent, 'Northern' Canada is a tropical archipelago.

I'm enjoying -150 85 155 alot...

Just to continue with the posts from ghost-people.

Since I haven't found any Europe-only map that I fell in love with, what is, in other people's opinion, the best Europe-only map in existence suitable for, as an example, a medieval NES (and is there any possibility of getting a better map anytime in the near or distant future)?

Uh, as far as I'm concerned, your own is probably the best one, if not entirely comprehensive. :p To the latter part, probably not.

Yes, I do love "my" own European map, but I want a map to post for my "Wars of Heaven" alt-history, and that requires Scandinavia and perhaps a tad more east.

Can someone make a world map OTL 1866 on something like this map? 'Twould be most helpful...

Yeah - I couldn't find the blank of that, though I know at least BTM has posted it somewhere.

woah very nice...something about the Spanish-French border area looks wrong though.

Eeeexcellent...is there anyone who can at least put a few rivers on the map in Europe - such as the Oder and Weichsel at the very least (Dnester would be good too)?

Greetings,

So I'm creating a Warhammer 40,000 game and I require a map. I'm thinking we should have somewhere along the lines of 80-100 systems.

Each system would be represented by a series of 1-3 dots depending on the number of inhabited worlds. I would need the ability to name each system and change the colour of the dots for each moderation/update.

My skills with a computer and any sort of graphic design program are poor.

Is there anyone who can help me out?

If you'd like more information on the game, it is in the last couple of pages of the NES development thread.

If you got a signatuure and an avatar.. perhaps ;)
