NES World/Regional Maps Requests Thread

True, wasn't sure if this was a final map or not.

Attention to the small islands.. in my mind many of them don't look in the right place.. make any sense? Islands usual have a quite distinct pattern from the mainland.. this map doesnt seem to match that.

Take the top left cont. The spur on its north east has 5 islands.. but they dont look to me like they fit.

Geology would explain it better.. but the spur is presumably a seam of harder rock.. the islands should follow out in a line/curve.. not just 5 blotted down.

Abaddon: about the islands being more pattern something like this?

And rivers will come after I decide where mountains etc are.

North King: Its hard to make smaller curves with a 2-pixel land-water border...do you think I should bring it down to one pixel? I was actually trying to decide if I should do one or two in the beginning, decided on two because I think it looks better when you have nation borders on there.

And by thickness, do you mean the tiny islands should be two-pixel bordered as well? If you do, then it looks too bulky and the borders to thick.

and erez: I wanted to stray away from the many small islands idea because really they are used very seldom in NESs, and it just creates a good deal of work both on making them and then coloring them etc.

Got it in one buddy! :)

Keep the two pixel borders, but they definitely need to used everywhere. As for it being difficult to do curves effectively, zoom into an already-done section, and fiddle with that. Revision is the key to a great map.

Mmm...I want to have an 1350 World Map for an The Years Of Rice And Salt NES, so I don't know if a difference of 7 years will make any trouble...It's perfect.

Wow, so many nations.. i wouldn't want to create the stats for that lot!

Keep in mind a LOT changes in the next few years, so this is actually not ideal. For example, India's superstate (the Sultanate of "Delhi") fractures almost immediately; this happens to be the high point. The Seljuks are fracturing, and quite a few other things are happening. I might be able to sort out the changes in a while, though I have a lot on my plate, and your best bet may be asking das. Especially about Russia; I have absolutely no clue what happens with Russia for most of recorded history (:p); I really ought to find a good book on that, come to think of it...

The world is big. :p

Thanks for the help...have you ever read "The Years of Rice and Salt"?
If you have read the book you may give to me some helps about situation in Europe and Russia after the Black Death.

Why do you think my NES have been fresh starts ;)

Yes, though the last time was a while ago. I even ran an NES on it, but that was longer ago; like, my first NES, when maps were bright blue and the world was fluffy.

If you have read the book you may give to me some helps about situation in Europe and Russia after the Black Death.

Well, in real life, not so bad. In YoRaS, there was almost literally nothing. I kind of liked the idea of a slightly less insane playing field, with some survivors, especially in low mortality areas, like Aquitaine and Poland.

I'm not sure about the area were life ceased to exist: The Golden Horde died with Europe?

Ok...Can you give me a summary for nations?

Maybe a few of them, later on in the week. Can't promise anything more than that.

Especially the ones in Anatolia and Russia.

The nations in Anatolia were mentioned earlier in the thread, by knigh+ (I think that's how he spelled his username), though I don't honestly know much about them. Russia, as I said earlier... heh. :p

@all who is helping me:

I've taken your advice and reproduced the northwest continent. Let me know if this is what you had in mind/further critique.

NK, a quick request: if you still have the historical map from 450 AD on your hard drive or at a place easily accessed, could you repost it? If it's too much trouble I can go try to find it myself, but I'm not too keen on looking through four threads.
