TO: His Royal Majesty, The King of England
FROM: His Royal Highness, King Julien-Francois I of the French

We have noticed the passing of your father, and we wish to offer you condolences. However, at the same time we wish to present to you a caveat should your ideas for the future of your nation differ, shall we say, from our own vision and the proper path which it constitutes. We would like to remind you, as we reminded your father, that you are forever endowed to France, and should you attempt to cease the allegiance to our kingdom which you and your ancestors have pledged in their honor, you shall find yourself in a most difficult predicament, where no foriegn nation shall be able to help you. Your father was a wise man, who kept his allies and protectors close. We only hope that you are half the man as he.

Nation Background: Having regained its independence in the 1620s, while Spain was busy fighting in the Twenty Years War, Portugal soon became a parliamentary monarchy not unlike France, with the native Braganza dynasty taking power. Originally a French ally - against both Spain and Netherlands - Portugal later became neutral, though still quite cordial with France. The Portuguese didn't have any real European ambitions, and concentrated on rebuilding - and expanding - their colonial empire. Eventually, they came to dominate Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean, where they clashed with France somewhat, especially in recent years as India was being carved up.

Brunswick is free again.

All diplo should be readdressed ;):D.

Yes sure, why not! A 3-year NAP I think? Excellent!

I think that we should continue our friendship in other areas, too.

to: Portugal
From: Spain
To keep the balance of peace in the world and assure you that we are not attacking, we also offer you a 3 turn NAP.

Brunswick eh?...nah I'll stick with my newspaper job, Its fun to point out the foolish things people do from safe in the Coffeehouses of Europe...

If the Qing ambassador would like to explain how a trickster could outwit their entire diplomatic corps we would be sure to run the story; I'm sure our readership would enjoy it. I think my next piece will be on how a new style of hat - the 'Julien' is sweeping Western Europe after the dashing King of France who pioneered the trend...

From: Abyssinia
To: Portugal

We propose that we continue our alliance in East Africa indefinitely. The Empire of Abyssinia will support the growth of Roman Catholicism and will combat our mutual enemies in the area, if Portugal will agree to provide us with protection from the Ottomans and any other un-Christian African threats.
