NES2 VI - Last Semblance of Order.

From: Papal States
To: Sweden

It seems Denmark is making a few...agressive, you could say....moves to consolidate allies around your nation. I offer an invitation towards you to join the Iberian-Italian pact, which I am sure Spain would agree to.

From: Papal States
To: Spain

Agree with me here :p

wait a sec...Portugal & France are friends? No their not, havent they been clashing recently in Africa and India? Did you guys hammer this out and I missed it or what?

Ive been confused on Portugal's position this whole NES

actually I accidently clashed with Spain in West Africa. However I still consider the Portugese-Spanish relationsship as friendly, although conehead ahsn'T responded yet.

Denmark would like to point out that we are in no way making any aggressive moves toward anyone. We are mere trying to secure ourself. The reports from our ambassadors in Rome and Stockholm are not comforting. In addition we fail to see why protestant Sweden would align with the Papal States after fighting so hard to preserve protestantism.

No, I mean, read your nations profile.

It mentions clashing with France specifically. I just didnt know if you had worked this out, or just kinda ignored it for diplomacy's sake ;)

The alliances the Papal States arrange do not automatically have to be with Catholic nations. We also arrange alliances, sometimes, to preserve the balance of power and therefore preserve Catholicism itself. It would be narrow minded and stupid of us to limit ourselves to JUST Catholic nations.

From the looks of it, Denmark, France, Augsburg, Russia are all allied. And you are demanding they free chunks of their territory as well. A power play? Who knows, but Sweden will not be dismantled the same way the Ottoman Empire was.

Denmark is not allied with Augsburg, but we do have an agreement of non-aggression with Brunswick.
We do wonder though why the Papacy is concerned with the fate of the Muslim Ottoman Empire considering the amount of Crusades the Papacy has traditionally sent that way in an attempt to reclaim the Holy Land.

I did read my nation profile ;). I would call that some minor colonial accidents, long forgotten. IMO i don't act unrealistic at all.

War at Sea
Copenhagen News, July 4th, 1741

From a distance it sounded like thunder. The loud booms consistent with the noise heard from the worst of the winterstorms. Nothing would have been unusual about it hadn't it been for the clear blue sky and the fact that it was in the middle of June.

Closer up it would be obvious that it was the sound of cannons, but why would cannons be firing in the middle of the ocean? These seas held no pirates and no wars were being fought nearby.

Getting closer still it would be even stranger. Lines of ships manouvering and firing at eachother, all of them proudly flying the Danish flag. As if that wasn't strange enough none of the ships were burning and a longboat was in the midst of the two groups of vessels constantly signalling with flags.

This would truly be one of the strangest sights ever beheld by man if you didn't know what was going on. To counter the lax attidtude of many Danish and Norwegian sailors a massive exercise was organised under the obervation of admiral Gyldenlove and other members of the admiralty. We haven't been told how this was organised as it is being kept a secret, but we have been informed that part of the secret was using a special mix of black powder that would make all the noise and dust of a real battle without actually damaging the ships.

The engagement started just before noon and continued until half an hour past six in the evening. The final tally was that the battle was narrowly won by battle group Frederik Rex by sinking 3 frigates more than battle group Christiania. Reports say though that had it been a real battle the damage to both sides would have been considerate.

Naval officials express their pleasure with the exercise and say that they plan to repeat it often both to keep the crews in shape, but also to make the commanders better at taking the proper course of action.

The navy at the same time invites everybody to come to the harbour on August 1st when the new flagship Dannebrog will be shown to the public. This new ship is the first of a whole new design. It is reported to be bigger than anything else in the navy and indeed the entire world, dwarfing even the mighty Spanish galleons. We will have more on this after the unveiling, but initial reports indicate that this new class of Ships of the Line will have three or four decks with guns unlike the normal amount of one or two decks.

Btw, quite amusing how nobody even suggested anything about what should be done with all those lands the Ottomans have abandoned. What, leave the poor Balkaners to their own devices? ;)

I reserve a spot for any Yugoslavic nation that pops up?Mkay?

Possibly :p How big are they? And don't blame, but the newspaper editor ;)

Ok, after a look on wikipedia, probably not... but they weren't so much warships, right? Or were the European guns just that much better than the Chinese?

From: Portugal
Regarding: The Balkan

We would like to suggest that atleast some of the new nations of the Balkan will be joined together. We fear that by splitting the Balkan into a huge number of little nations, war and conflict will develope, possibly pulling other foreign powers into a larger conflict.

ooc: +I hate all those stupid 5 division nations which seem to pop up in any NES were the Ottomans are involved.

The alliances the Papal States arrange do not automatically have to be with Catholic nations. We also arrange alliances, sometimes, to preserve the balance of power and therefore preserve Catholicism itself. It would be narrow minded and stupid of us to limit ourselves to JUST Catholic nations.

Emperor Brehane is quite distressed that the Papal States would attempt to ally with nations run and populated by souls destined for Hell.

Das, I think everybody knows who is going to be calling the shots in the Balkhans, and it would be rather pointless to waste diplomacy there.

Unfortunately, that's not obvious enough, because there are way too many people involved in it, and some didn't even announce their involvement officially yet.

Then you will have a fun update to do

What da hellz!?It was just two posts and it wasnt spam entirely...

Or you have some kind of autsensor now for the words O RLY? that automatically reports them to the mod.

Moderator Action: 1 day ban for public discussion of moderator actions. Just putting "O RLY" adds nothing to a post, and is spam.
