NES2 VI - Last Semblance of Order.

To: France
From: Bulgaria

You were a key player in our countries' path to independence. We ask kindly if you could possibly send officers or shiprights to aid our people in training the military and teach us to build ships. We would also like to ask if our students could attend schools in your enlightened country. We kindly ask for these things. We would also be thrilled if you wished to sign a defensive pact with us.

TO: His Majesty, The King of Bulgaria
FROM: His Royal Highness, Julien-François I, King of the French

We would be delighted to aid your nation in whatever way we can, and following that approach, we will sign the defensive pact. France welcomes the Bulgarian students with open arms, and we will dispatch a military attache immediately to Sofia to begin the training and modernization of your armed forces.

OOC: Why the hell are all these little states all like "Oh, we overthrew the Ottoman yoke bravely, hooray for us!"? The Ottomans were going to give you independence anyway...
OOC: Go die, Yooper. Hey, if I hadn't written the Athens riot story and actually said openly that I was going to be a rebel faction, no one would have started in on the Ottomans at that time. Russia needed a relatively-plausible excuse, too. Despite the fact that I had in my orders to start demonstrations clamoring for independence on turn 1...the Ottomans amazingly didn't grant it! Wow! How amazingly surprising!

If I hadn't been sufficiently pissed that everyone had taken the even remotely good nations before me, I wouldn't have started a rebel movement in the first place. ;) Story to come soon.

OC: I too have a story coming up in order to select the new leader of Serbia, that is if stalin is around to send orders and grant it independence... hope that gets solved soon.

We will aid in you in restablishing order. We will station troops in the southern most region of Serbia. We hope the best for the future.

The fat guy stared at the government man. "What the devil do you mean, you won't let me start a business?"

"Just that, sir. The Byzantine government doesn't want to have to prop up your company if you fail miserably."

"Why on earth would the company fail? The economy is in a bit of a rut right now: a buyer's market. We can simply buy up all of the failing businesses and use their combined power to get the Byzantine hyperpyron back up there."

"That's a monopoly, sir: it stifles competition. Why on earth would your company want to be even remotely competitive if there is no competition at all?"

"Patriotism, my good man. What other reason do we need?"

"You're really that altruistic. For a man who lives to grub money-" here the logothete scanned the man in front of him from top to bottom, taking in the expensive suit, the monocle, the Serbian cravat, and the rest of his elaborately decadent costume. How very absurd. It's almost disgusting, actually. "-there is no real motivation to serve basileus and Empire by not gouging our citizens for shoddy product. And that's even if you manage to get all of the disparate companies of the Aegean coast into a coalition of sorts. I'm not buying it."

"Well, my friend, it may not appear as though I have any real reason to give up cold, hard cash for the benefit of citizens of the Empire, but, trust me, I do."

"How very clichéd. What, pray tell, is the reason for your altruism? Turks murdered your father, or something?" The bureaucrat's sardonic sneer was tempered by long hours of rejecting silly business schemes. At least this guy has lots of money. That could make a difference.

"No, actually, my brother." It didn't look like the rich man was shedding any tears whatsoever. "In the riots at Athens. It's rumored that the reason they started was that my brother was attacked by some Mohammedan policeman."

"How sad." With absolutely no emotion showing on his face, the logothete reluctantly raised his quill. "I suppose, in light of your family's sacrifices for the Great Idea, the least the empire can do is grant you a business license." He affixed the imperial seal to the document and handed it back to the other.

"It is the least we can do." The new chief executive officer of the Constantinople and Orchomenos Company rose from his seat opposite the logothete and walked towards the door.

"God bless your business venture," called the Byzantine bureaucrat behind him. The logothete briefly reflected on the hard times that the Empire was pulling through, and those that it had already weathered. Even the richest among us have been affected. The thought rose unbidden to the forefront of his mind as he watched the other chap shuffle through the door, trying to disguise the tears that were so obviously streaming down his face.

As he walked out the door and out of the building, the president and CEO of the new C & O Company cleared his head and began to decide on a new target. Perhaps the floundering canal through the Isthmus. C & O Canal sounds like an excellent name...

OOC: Monopolies are sinful things. That's why I burned them all! :p

OOC: WHy does your buisness man have a British Accent/vocabulary, LOL. But very nice touching story

Wait till you see my canal!(I don't have the economy to build one though...*passes around collection hat*)

Porth Dochais
McCarwick read got off the Irish Ship , leaving behind the old world for a new life. He wasn't one of the orignal Dochais[1] settlers, but he was here to help them. He sought adventure and hope. All he brought with him was his knife, his gun, a compass, a paperpad and some ink. Thats all he'd need.

He had been sent by the king, along with several other specialists, to assist the colonies. He had studied in the Dublin Special Sciences College, specializing in Exploratory and Cartographic Arts. He knew most of the people who came, and they ranged from Administrators to Potato Farmers. The Heartland was in dire economic straits, so the king had authorized a mission to attempt to make the colony most self-sufficient food wise and so they could expand so more trade flowed through Irish Ports. They second part was McCarwicks job. He had been sent to lead an exploring expidition and map out the surrounding country side. He needed to settle in first and gather some settlers.

The colony itself was both beutiful and distressing. It was populated by Hardy Irishman, most of whom fished. The people all had a tired and determined look in their eyes. They looked like they needed a break. It was a good thing the government had sent along a brewer. But McCormick wasted no time, so he went looking for volunteers.
------------------------------------------
1 month later

The expedition was finally ready. McCormick had gathered up a small milita to deal with any hostile Indians they met, some workers to help create a settlement when they reached the right spot, and a bunch of settlers who were promised large grants of land. Their were rumors of a bountiful River Valley, and a few people even claimed to have seen it. But the two scout groups McCormick had sent out never returned. None the less, thats the direction they were heading. They traveled for days, clearing paths and taking a winding route to map the region and scout the terrain. One couple had their baby run off to a place with 7 hills. They and a group of settlers saw this as a sign and settled the small village of UrRoimh[2]. But McCormick knew this was not the promised land. They wlaked for weeks, and as the group began to tire, they heard running water...

"Up ahead" Cried a woman
"Wawa" shouted a toddler
And like a stampede of Buffalo they charged through the remaining hills. THen suddenly, they reached a.....path.
"We should follow it" a burly man said, "We can take any savages"
"It doesn't seem we have much choice" McCormick said
And they continued down the winding path. And then they were overcome by the view when they exited the slightly forested region.
"Oh my" commented an overexcited lady. And that described it. It was a beautiful river valley[3]. It was lush and green and.....
"OH MY" a woman shreiked. Everyone turned to notice the 10 skulls sitting on 10 muskets dug into the ground. This was also when everyone noticed the small indian encampment by the river.
"Damnú air! Mallaigh!"[4] spat McCormick, "Those indian savages will rue the day they slaughtered by scouts!" McCormick gathered the Militia he had raised and went charging down towards the encampment screaming "Díoltas!!!!!!!"[5]. They opened fire on their hovels. They were no screams or charging savages. The Irishmen were very confused. They walked slowly into the Indian Village. In a circle were 2 people who had knives in their chests. They went inside the tents and found dead bodies strewn about. They had contracted small pox from the scouts. The group began cheering and whooping. The valley was theirs. The settlers joined the fracas. People were yelling about grain and other plant seeds they found in pottery. It was a miracle from God. They would settle down and later literally settle down and start building houses. The town was called Ursaol or "New Life" in Celtic. McCormick left to report back to the Colonial Governor his findings, and get his new assignment.

[1] Dochais is the name of the colony, and it means "hope"
[2] New Rome in Celtic
[3] OTL Chubut River Valley
[4]Celtic Curses
[5]"Revenge on you" or "Avenge them" that gist, in Celtic

Let me make something painfully clear. Bulgaria has aproached me about annexing parts of Serbia. That will not be done. The borders of the Balkhan countries will remain along the ethnic lines in the region.

Secondly, the government that will be restored in Serbia will be the same one that was ousted by Krakowian troops. There will be the same ruler, the relative of the Rurikovich family, and the same parliament, set up along the same system the Russian one is. We will not tolerate any further political moves in the region that are not previously reviewed by the Russian government. I hope we are making ourselves very clear.

Yes sir Mr. Russia sir :p

New Pope announcement today as soon as I find a suitable name...

Russia I do not see why you keep pestering us about this. We do not at any means wish to take all of Serbia for our own. We wish to aid them now by any means we can. Do not look at us as war mongering fiends. We wish to be able to make our transactions with Serbia benefit both countries. As you can see I am meerly moving in troops into south to help estblish some law. With Serbia's army defeated and criminals at large from the recent invasion they require some aid. And I want to make sure my neighbor is protected so we can count on one another. I seek that this will strengthen both nations. I did not know of the situation with Krakow at the time so I seeked to bring them in, but now that I know they will be independent I want to help. Is there any crime in this Russia?

To Russia
From Serbia

It is quite clear due to the recent ousting of said king that a need for change is apparent. One that will bring about national unity and pride for the people of Serbia, lest they choose to once again support powers not within our interest. The members of the Parilment are of no consequence, and from what they have seen during the revolt should make them agree that a new ruler should be selected, one that can rally the people and unite them into one solidified nation. Of course we hope that we may maintain close ties with our friends in Russia, and will acede to all other request. Please see the logic within our decision, and respect it. We hope it will meet your review with satisfaction.

OOC: Krimzon, Serbia is a puppet state of Russia, ruled by a relative of the Russian Tsar and with a Parliament where the system is set up to guarantee at least a 2/3 pro-Russian vote. I will not trade this for "close ties" with Russia. Same goes for Bulgaria, the country was set up in the same way. I am not sure what sort of government you represent if you want to change it. You cannot be playing the king of a country and say..."well, I think we might have to change the king"...so I am not sure what I am supposed to do...Either you play the government that exists or a rebel group, and so far you sound more like the latter.

IC:

To Serbia:

The legitimate government of Serbia will be restored. Any further reforms in Serbia will take place under the framework of the legitimate government, in coordination with Russia. I hope that is clear.

To Bosnia:

You proposal regarding annexation of the southern parts of Serbia is out of the question. Your troops are welcome to restore order in Serbia, but you will most definately not be allowed to annex any Serbian territory.
