NESCraft

For the record, i also like player names instead of made-up ones.

I saw Tux' post as well.

I don't know about SE. Kinda fearing the bear. But we can try, I guess. :)

bear is to the west. to the north is a peninsula where tux started, which might work, as there is lots of fish. decent defensive position, but not a lot of building material.
south east had long grass (grain?), and further on, some caves.
Your the father, so you chose where we go. it's just we cant stay here.

Tux, It might be better if you used the AP to, you know, actually move? otherwise, your going to get left behind and likely eaten.

Angst.. 1AP to follow our moving, leaving 2 AP. try a bit of fishing before we leave, plus whatever?

Yay! I'm an abomination! :D

What I have to do now is try to approach the humans and show them I am good, and willing to help them.

You are aware that you will go into a frenzy when you see humans and try to kill us right?

Nintz's Ghost

Again attempt to posses the bear.

Guys, thanks very much :)))

I will answer all questions in a wee while, please bear with me!

-> Popcornlord seems inactive, anyone want to take over this slot?

-> Another baby is on the way thanks to Lord Herobrine, but it will be a couple of turns before it is playable, assuming mother and child can survive.

Current waiting list looks like this. Those near the top, I would love to hear from you to know if you are still interested:

Talonschild (2nd life)
Arrow Gamer (2nd life)
Milarqui (2nd life)
bonefang
Ekolite
DarthNader
Nintz (2nd life)
thomas.berubeg (2nd life)
Lambda_Ignacae
Amesjay
Shadowbound
Lord_Iggy

Angst's orders:

1 AP: Help my family moving southeast.
1 AP: Try to procure food for my family by gathering along the way.
1 AP: Try to INSISTENTLY procure food for my family by hopefully getting lucky with fishing or somesuch thing.

Hm strike that then.

Angst, you haven't specified any tool building (spear?), or tool use, and I'm not going to impose that on you. All you can do is basic foraging with your stone tool/knife that you have, unless you want to get really close and personal with some prey animal. Fishing with your bare hands is not impossible, but its not recommended :)

Oh also:

Q: do you have a name for your part of the world?

Indeed, I think I'd call my area the Dreadlands.

Stockholme's Orders:

- Eat the fruit hanging from the nearby shrub, allow the seeds to cook on the fire for a bedtime snack.
1 AP - Make a belt from the lizard hide I currently hung around my waist.
1 AP - Sleep beside my lovely fire again, under the cover of my fruitful shrubbery.

Does it take an action to build string or linen or is it free from just gathering grass and stuff?

A question Daft, are you going to adjust the natural lifespan since we won't have anymore mana spawns? I noticed this when I realized I'm probably going to die of "old age" in about a turn or so but I don't think we can keep up a stable population even if there are no violent deaths. It looks like it takes too long to get to a meet another person and be at point to support children takes too long to have the two kids needed to maintain a constant population.

@Daft: I don't know if you are pre-storing orders or anything, but I adjusted the wording of mine slightly.

@TerrisH: I adjusted the wording to signify that I will be moving. However, I'm trying to be overly spiritual in most turns. Movement is mostly automatic unless it is distant, and with you and Angst providing assistance, we should be able to move a good distance.

@Angst: I would suggest taking one food gathering AP to build a net for fishing. You're artistic, it might help weave one. Or build a better food gathering tool of some sort.

@Angst, TerrisH:
I imagine once we move, the following turns will need to be used to settle down and build up stocks so we aren't constantly on the verge of starvation.

Day 6
Merciary, Lord Herobrine and Milarqui

DGO1guF.png

Concerned for Merciary's safety, Herobrine builds a fine shield made from sticks covered with boar hide. Merciary meanwhile builds a gardening hoe, and the pair of you start to experiment with growing things. Later in the day, Herobrine finishes construction of a wooden dwelling, while Merciary goes fishing in the lake to the north, and strikes lucky - spearing a very large fish indeed. All the while, a bloody, wound-crazed Dire Boar lurks in the undergrowth, but seems reluctant to approach with both of you nearby. At night, you have too much food to eat; leaving the fish meat for later, you use up yesterday's boar meat and apples. The local wolf pack returns this night, and Merciary feeds them some scraps, earning their affection. But just as bonds are being forged, the wolves scatter suddenly. A sense of unease descends, and you both hear sounds in the near distance, strange and disturbing. You settle down in your new dwelling; with a fire going and deer skin shutting out the night, quiet descends, and your romance blossoms...

Merciary awakes today with 5AP. The garden plots need to be tended for 1AP each, at least one more time before they can be harvested (lacking the instinct for Herbal Lore, you can only guess at how to grow anything). Something is very different about Herobrine, who has 4AP today and is ravenously hungry, as well as feeling especially cold outside the shelter of the hut. Together you have spare food: 2x Fish Meat (moderately filling), 2x Bones, 1x Fish Skin (weak but waterproof), 1x Backpack (Merc), 1x Stone Tools (Hero), 2x Stone Spears (1 each), 1x Stone Axe (Merc), 1x Fishbone Ornament (Merc), 1x Boarskin Shield (Merc).

...

Meanwhile, a lost spirit attempts to possess the body of a large, feisty female Auroch, a giant cow. But strange energies are rippling unseen across the landscape, and some kind of confluence occurs; the lost spirit fuses with the Auroch, but in doing so opens a gateway between realms. A new, unstable form takes shape. Milarqui is barely in control of this new form. As night falls, he roams the land with a desire to seek out human beings. On the way he encounters a certain Dire Boar; memories are triggered and unstoppable rage takes hold. The prey is chased throughout the night, halted only by the burning light of dawn which forces a withdrawal to shade and shelter.

Milarqi has become an abomination.
-------------------------------
Q: would you prefer custom character names in the game, rather than forum usernames?

Q: do you have a name for your part of the world?

Orders:

-(1AP) Take the 2x Bones and attempt to make another Bone Necklace for myself, and a small totem to display outside the dwelling, hopefully to scare off any predators or ward off evil spirits (Milarqui).
-(1AP) Spend part of the day finishing up the garden patch nearest the dwelling. If the cold becomes too much or labor approaches, immediately retreat to the dwelling in preparation.
-(1AP) Mediate on the situation and pray to the 'Great Daft' in the sky to protect our little claim of the world. (EDIT: If it requires two AP too build the bone necklace and totem, do that instead of meditating.)
-(1AP) End the night attempting to get some sleep in the dwelling and to prepare for what surely will be a long night for me.

Non AP Actions:

-Eat the fist meat.

Question 1: IMO, it's currently fine with me to use forum names, mainly because 'Herobrine' fits in quite well. :p I would be willing to use custom names though.
Question 2: Well, I'm not sure what Merciary thinks, but I've been thinking something along the lines of 'Wolf-haven.'

To Herobrine:
I'm thinking of getting a stone wall up soon with all the nastiness off to the East, we might want to invest in some ranged weapons sometime soon as well.

Thats a good idea. Although I'm not sure that the little stone patch would be bountiful enough to block off that entire direction. Besides, a wall could be bypassed easily by jumping over it or swimming through the lake. I'm not entirely sure it would be wise to invest AP in a wall to block off that area, but to build a stronger/bigger dwelling would be a better idea IMO, especially since Justo is on the plateau that I started on and could be here in just a few turns.

@Milarqui
Don't make us have to put you down. ;)

OH, and EXCELLENT Update Daft!! :D :goodjob::thumbsup:

Wolf-Haven sounds fine with me and I favor using our forum names, though if we really get going I think we should make up dynasty names at some point.

For the record, i also like player names instead of made-up ones.

Yeah... With 20+ players, I think throwing in unique character names at this stage could get very confusing for everyone. Especially me... Feel free to make 'nicknames' though :)

Can a cairn be upgraded to a stone monument (once we get stone tools?)?

You've already got stone tools, did you mean metal? A cairn is just a loose pile of rocks basically. You can expand it into a 'super cairn' I guess, but you won't get the Temple of Karnak out of it ;) I kinda like the idea of a more advanced tier of monuments, built in stages requiring 2AP and two pre-cut Stone Blocks each time.

So yeah, you don't need to use those carefully-cut stone blocks for a simple cairn, you can just build one wherever rocks are lying around handy. Apologies if this is confusing.

I seem to have a knack for causing mayhem.

Indeed :) So far... you speared a giant seal but it didn't die, you retreated to the plains where you then got stalked by lions, you ran to the shelter of trees, took some mushrooms that made you ill, were helped back to health by some friendly giant orangutans, who led you to the border of Pandaholme where you started a forest fire.

Thinking that's my wisest course of action. If there's any problem with my orders let me know.

Thankyou! No real problems with your orders, the final 1AP sleeping action can include bending branches to make a little nest. Later you can build a Tent or a Dwelling up in the trees but then you need the materials... If its meaningful shelter it will require serious AP effort, I think it works better that way for various reasons.

@Daft: keeping fire alight won't cost any AP right?

That is correct!

how hot are the lakes?

Currently, hot like a nice hot bath.

@Daft: My order to let him eat me did nothing?

Well. I decided I wasn't going to make it so easy for our spirit brothers to provide food for the living. It could have worked (random roll), but in this case the bunny's survival instinct triggered at the last moment, shaking you from your bond with it. I also like the idea that trying to abuse nature with your ghost power could also go a bit wrong, RE Milarqui :)

Hey Daft, I'm not sure how up to date your waiting list in the OP is as quite a lot of people ahead of me now seem to have spawned, but I will happily take over the next child to be born in-game so long as no one ahead of me in the list claims it.

Really looking forward to being a part of this.

Thanks Ekolite, good to know you're still interested. I've updated the list today. I suspect one of the others will want to play as Herobrine's baby, but there is also Popcornlord who has gone inactive, if you would like to take over?

You are aware that you will go into a frenzy when you see humans and try to kill us right?

Milarqui isn't necessary hostile to humans, but I would stress that he is only 50% in control of his current form!

I know I posted the whole 'beastman' idea before, but you can ignore the part about needing to hunt humans to survive. I'll leave it up to Milarqui how he wants to play :)

Does it take an action to build string or linen or is it free from just gathering grass and stuff?

Yeah, I'm afraid its 1AP to make a linen blanket, that can then be re-crafted into tents, clothing, backpacks and so forth. EDIT: 1AP to make string also, yes. It must be made pretty decent to serve for fishing rods or bows. Sometimes, you will find 'Sinew' from animal kills, which is free string basically (I should clarify that).

Yeah, I meant to say about this...

IMPORTANT POINT: nobody is going to die of old age just yet. I think I said somewhere earlier it would be about 8 turns for the entire lifespan - I want to extend that. I would say now that you can expect at least 7 turns of adult life (more likely 8-9, even up to 12 turns if you have been fairly well fed and healthy) before becoming an 'elder' - when you might have less AP, and females can no longer have babies, but you can still live on for a few turns yet.

I do want to have a turnover of generations eventually. @Omega124 and @Alex994, if you wanted to have kids you might want to start looking into that soon :)

Anyway, someone born into the game is going to have 2 turns of playable childhood before that. TerrisH does not have a great start :p but you can see how others could be born into shelter, food supplies and tools ready made. They don't have to do everything from scratch, so perhaps it will be easier for them to go exploring and adventuring.

I was going to mention that haha. The Tux-Trio (Kinda catchy :p) is not in a very good shape. Most are hungry, even starving, and Tux has only had 1AP for a couple turns now. Honestly, I was slightly surprised Tux even survived through the day because of the lack of sleep and food.
