NESLife attempt #3

Leatherback bug

evolved from

Spoiler :
Leatherback Worm: RFHolloway
Evolved from: Caveworm
Role: burrowing, social, tough, land herbivore/scavenger
Habitat: warm/temperate land
Survival Status: Competing
Genes (23): Digging x2, Water Retention x2, Crawling x2, Eating Dead Things x2, Mass Reproduction x1, Jaws x2, Communal Behaviour x4, Plant Eating x2, Complex Stomach x1, Smelling x1, Scent Glands x1, Cold Resistance x1, Tough Skin x2.
Description: The leatheback worms were noted for their tougher skin, this provided defense from some of their predators. They could also move more quickly to escape.

Add tough skin x1, crawling x1 plant eating x1

Description: The skin of the letherback bug was tougher than its ancestors, and may have had some form of cartilage plates in it (the fossil evidence is not clear). They certainly moved faster - probably to escape predators.

Okay, I'm really knew to these forums, and i didn't want to mess up anyone's creature. Forgive me if I demonstrate a complete lack of understanding with this, if so please correct me.

Life Web : Sliver Slave
Genes: Simple mouthx1, Flagellumx1, Binding fibresx1
Description:
The life web is actually composed of two organisms, one of which is so simple as to be almost algae. the other has a simple mouth and stomach, but its defining feature is its webs. Small pore-like openings in its body can make a vein and artery like fibre, which latch onto the algae beings. the algae function as meat shields, and more importantly, strange flagella. The mouth organism has no method of locomotion at all, other than spinning the algae and constantly letting go and rebinding them. Watching a life web is a hypnotic display. they Typically feed mostly on real algae and plankton, but battles between two life webs are fairly common. a battle is won when the mouth is "killed" leaving the algae things to drift. Half of these algaes are usually eaten, the rest assimilated. A life web can become fairly large.

Again, sorry if I demonstrate no grasp of this game.

It is better to start for an existing species since competition by now is extremely hard.

Other then that your evolution lacks an eating gene (what it eats?).

@Silver Slave- You're actually encouraged to evolve from other peoples' creatures. I'd offer a personal invitation to evolve an animal from the group Scuteridae, which contains everything from burrowing, communal animals to hoofed grazers to flying crustaceans. They're awesome. ;)

Or you can evolve one of the Shellsters, the cephalopods of this world. Consider the Shellster Reinizio and Iyirein especially.

You are ENCOURAGED to "mess up" someone's creatures.

@Silver Slave, welcome :)

As erez said, your creature lacks the 'genes' to feed in this game, and so it cannot live :( All species in this game have either 'flesh eating' or 'plankton eating' or 'plant eating' or something. I assume you've come from spore-related forum games somewhere :) Things in this game are more simplistic, IE instead of 'Flagellum' there is just 'swimming' or 'drifting'.

You can start a new primitive creature, but it would have to be very original and unique to survive against the competition. IMO, this game is at a point which is equivalent to late dinosaur age or even later.

It might help to take a look at the latest update, which has the latest stats list attached to it (it is very big now, but much easier to read if you can open the word .doc format).

Well if you think about it there's lots of simple / 1 cell organisms in the world today, I actually think there might be a bit of an opening for something like that in this NES. Afterall, with such a small number of genes it would hardly need any food and there'd be more then enough plankton and algae for them to eat. Also, I think its fair to assume that these things would be too tiny for the average predator to want to eat, or even see.

Of couse, its up to you. But that's my opinion.

@Kol.7- Yeah, but they are outside of the macro-scale scope of this game. Daft doesn't include anything much smaller than 10 cm long (I think that my burrowing Scuterids or perhaps some of the worms are the tiniest creatures).

We are in the late dino age? Oh noes! But I want to make T-rex first :( or something like it anyway, at least raptors!

Anywho, when is update :D?

BTW, veux-tu l'assistance en parlent français Kol?

OOC: Do I want help with french? Not right now, no. Although if any kind french speaking person would like to read over parts of my french oral exam to check it actually makes sense before I do it next week they're welcome to. ;)

I did actually suprise myself with my french skills this morning :p, I've started randomly translating stuff into french. I guess if it helps me to learn it, why not?

I'm taking the language as an A-Level next year if my GCSE grade is good enough.

AH, i think I get it. feel free to ignore my thing. Also, I said Flagellum because I've been exposed to that kinda stuff. I'll have a shot evolving someones creature once I've had a good look through all of the updates.

Just in case anyone is wondering, here is the Eversorix that Lord Iggy mentioned, along with Luckymoose's Kynora which was around at the time. The current Gorgaths are most closely related to the Kynora. The Eversorix's closest living relatives are the Bariothorims and Megarixes.

@Silver Slave, I wouldn't want you to read all the updates, that would take some time :) Also I still need to fix some broken image links (our forum got h4x0red a while back, and a load of uploads were lost :( ). The last update hopefully has all the info that is relevant at the moment.

Just some idiot a month or so back deleted everything we had uploaded (pictures etc)

There was an old backup, but we lost everything from the last few months :(

Is it too late to retract my previous thing and post something else? If so I can wait.

EDIT: Do we have to ask permission too evolve things? I thought I read that in an update somewhere.

Yes, there is time to change what you want to do.

An YES. You are activly encouraged to "grab" a creature from the update, and evolve that. Noone owns these creatures, you jsut guide it the way you want to.
