NESLife attempt #3

Daft tends to be quite slow with updates since it takes a lot of effort to put together. If you post your idea up, it may get included or at least looked over and commented on :)

okay, I'll post it in about 3 or 4 hours.

Also, just to ask, do aurora's lay eggs? Are there any aquatic auroras?

Well, I'll try this out.

Spoiler :
Waddling Aurora: NPC
Evolved from: Cackling Aurora
Role: flying, swimming omnivore
Habitat: warm/temperate lakes/rivers/coastlines
Survival Status: Thriving
Genes (34): Complex Stomach x1, Flesh eating x1, Lungs x2, Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x3, Flying x4, Swimming x3, Walking x1, Feathers x3, Talons x2, Jaws x1, Cartilage x1, Skeleton x2, Water Retention x2, Cold Resistance x1, Oil Glands x1, Brain Power x1, Tough Eggs x1, Parenting Instinct x1, Plant Eating x2.
Description: The Waddling Aurora is actually a poorer flyer than its ancestors, though it is still more than good enough for getting from one lake to another. Its bulkier frame contains an enlarged digestive tract, for handling the aquatic plants which now make up most of its diet, though it will still eat insects and small creatures if it can catch them. It is also a better swimmer, and can now dive down quite far below the surface.

Diving Aurora: Sliver Slave
Evolved from: Waddling Aurora
Genes (34): Complex Stomach x1, Flesh eating x1, Lungs x3, Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x3, Flying x2, Swimming x4, Walking x1, Feathers x3, Talons x2, Jaws x1, Cartilage x1, Skeleton x2, Water Retention x2, Cold Resistance x1, Oil Glands x1, Brain Power x1, Parenting Instinct x1, Plant Eating x2, Live Birth x1.
Removed Genes: Tough Eggs x1, Flying x2
Description: the Diving Aurora has taken the direction its ancestor went, the Waddling Aurora several steps further. It has achieved a primitive form of internal development, so that's its young are born in eggs that are already nearly ready for hatching, requiring only an hour or two. Because of this, it does not have to nest, and no longer requires the ability to fly. The only time it spends on land is that which it uses to crawl to some height or other, and dive deep, deep down into the water, hence its name. It can barely fly at all, equating no more than a large jump, which is also used in diving. With larger lungs, it can stay underwater much longer, and uses its wings as fins. Its hind limbs have already begun to atrophy, in favour its tail. It swims with up and down motions, using its wings to steer.

EDIT: Oh smurf, I wasn't quite clear, are you allowed to add add 3 genes AND take away 3 genes? or is it add/remove 3 genes total?

@Silver Slave, thanks for posting the Diving Aurora!

The adding and subtracting of stuff is independent, so you could add 3 and remove 3, or add 1 and remove 3, or add 3 and remove 1, etc etc...

No ETA on the update yet, I'm afraid. Im working on its slowly, along with several other things :(

NPC potnetial:
Green Blob
x2 water retention, x1 rolling, x1 insect eating
the icky blob was a fluke of evolution. existing near the shore and in the many rivers doting the land, it was a strange green sticky blobthe flowed and rolled across the land, ocasianly extending a quick line of oop to snap up a passing insect, then pulling it inside of it's simi-transparent body.

somthing that's been roaming my thread. simple prey creature.

I imagine it would have evolved from slime algae... also I imagine it will still photosynthesise?

Also, how do slugs and snails move? Perhaps it should get a name like them rather than "rolling" "Muscluar foot x 1" ?

Abaddon- Slugs and snails move by extending and contracting their foot muscles on a slime-coated surface, and are thus confined to damp areas.

It was more a suggestive comment. Could a slug move without the slime? Or is this green blob going to extrude goo as well?

A slug needs the slime to protect itself from the rough ground, and to provide a good sliding surface. So yeah, it needs the slime.

Algae
Genes: Water retention x 1, photosynthesis x 1.
Description: Algae, dur...

Green Blob
Evolved From: Algae
Genes: water retention x 2, Photosynthesis x 2.
Description: A larger mass of algae had better water retention so could survive in dryer conditions

Icky Blob
Evolved From: Green Blob
Genes: water retention x 2, Photosynthesis x 2, Muscular Foot x 1, Slime x 1, Insect eating x 1.
Description: The Icky Blob was a fluke of evolution. Existing near the shore and in the many rivers dotting the land, it was a strange green sticky blob that flowed and rolled across the land, occasionally it would be lucky enough to roll over an insect an this would provide extra sustinence for the Blob.

My take on things...

It seems a little too simple. How exactly is it complex enough to sense, snatch, and draw in an insect? You need developed musculature for that sort of thing. Better is to ooze and catch them by drawing them in. Or even better, being a decomposer (I love slime molds).

NK.. look one post up...

True, im just trying to fill in the gaps that we could create a creature such as the icky blobs without "Random Mutation that makes no sense"

No, no muscular foot. it's a ball of green goop that rolls. I just tossed it out there as a one turn starting evolution that could work. If I was not deeply into the Royalis line and makeing that line work, I would proboly take it up, and I can devlop a very intersting creature in less then 3 turns from no other creature. (hence me putting the NPC potential before I posted)
to evolve a land creature from nothing you need:
x1 water retention (stuck near water, but can rome on the land), X1 means of motion (rolling in this case), x1 feeding means

(OOC: TerrisH, FYI I'm pretty sure ''monolog'' has a ''ue'' at the end of it :). Monologue)

Intrude: It's either way, -ue is generally the British variant, while without is American. Same thing with analog/analogue.

How long until an update?

Stop it! We can talk about our species chances and stuff instead: Do you know that there are likey more than 50 million species on earth? I like to think the species here are actually 'Genus's
