NESLife attempt #3

I honestly can't decide what to evolve right now, everything is doing well in its own environment. Maybe I could open up a fourth line somewhere...

Wow who thought the legger would be so successful.

Perfect update as usual. I guess my finners are in no risk so I gonna upgrade land life for a little.

Amacilndasa Musculares: Slavic Sioux
Evolved from: Amacilndasa
Genes (6): Digging x2, Plankton Eating x1, Shell x2, Eating Dead Things x1
Complex stomach 1x, Jaws 1x, Fangs 1x
Description: The Amacilndasa Musculares is now able to eat and digest more effecently so that it can get more energy to survive making it more adaptable overall.

Yeah I know the feeling Iggy. I dont think anything Ive been working on (besides some of the older evo's of them) are having a hard time and with I think 4 different Evo's I've been playing with its hard to decide. I may continue with my last evo a bit more this turn and run with it that way though.

Ok, I am new to this. I couldn't find any clear rules so I tried to figure them out by looking at how the game is played.

Evolution Template:
Cyanosiphonora : Prometheus4096
Evolved from: Plankton
Genes (2): Plankton Eating x1, Photosynthesis x1
Description: Small simple organisms that grow together in large colonies, forming what appear to be large jellyfish-like creatures, floating near the surface of the ocean.
All individuals in the colony are identical and capable of sustaining themselves through photosynthesis. By excreting fluids and mucus the individual organisms together are able to form membranes creating a structure that allows them to filter out and digest plankton.
Occasionally, particularly when a colony has reached a significant size, pieces of the colony break free and slowly float away to grow into colonies of their own.

How is that any different from regular plankton mats?

Welcome to NESing Prometheus!

It might be best if you built off of an already-existant line.

You can have 1 other gene. So it should be something that allows them to float if they float...

Spoiler :
Falcirix : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Arix
Genes (31): Crawling x2, Eating Dead Things x1, Plant Eating x1, Complex Stomach x1, Exoskeleton x1, Communal Behaviour x1, Claws x4, Water Retention x4, Lungs x3, Cold Resistance x1, Eyes x1, Walking x2, Flesh Eating x3, Brain Power x2, Live Young x1, Pack Hunter x1, Smelling x1, Vibration Sense x1
Description: During the bountiful times of the Armtupleran era, Arices, Audorices and Sensorixes all thrived. However, the Arices found themselves pushed to the sidelines, due to their lack of significant advantages over their less hardy cousins. Over time, however, these differences were mitigated as Arices continued to evolve. The extremely hospitable climate allowed them to grow to a significantly larger size than their ancestors, some reputedly standing as high as two meters tall at the shoulder (though most were in the 1-1.5 meter range). Their systems became more developed, allowing for better nutrient retrieval from meats and more effective respiration (which helped to contribute to the larger size). Finally, their claws have grown even deadlier, cutting through almost any obstacle before the hunters. The Falcirixes are rapidly establishing themselves as the uncontested dominant predators of Caliburnia.

Eversorix : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Falcirix
Gene added (you can add 3, or 4 with bonus): Endoskeleton, Large Size, Strength, Complex Stomach
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 3 or 4 with bonus): Pack Hunter
Description: Inarguably the mightiest predator yet to appear on Delta Panzerus, the Eversorix is a creature without compare. One tribe of Falcirixes, specialized to hunt the strongest creatures of Orania and Falciria, over time grew dramatically in size. An internal skeleton of was developed, along with a more sophisticated musculature, to help support the animal's size. Finally, the creature's digestive system increased further in its efficiency, to get all of the possible energy and nutrients out of its varied diet. Eversorixes have lost the communal social system which has long defined their ancestors, now only spending time with one other adult Eversorix, with whom they mate and raise young.

On the Eversorix

The Eversorix is indeed a mighty predator: Over three meters in height. Lethally sharp claws nearly a meter in length. And a deadly predatory instinct.

The Eversorices, having grown into such large and effective killing machines, no longer need to hunt in groups. They will eat- essentially- anything. Prey of all sizes, from arboreal Kalavalions (whose Fanel and Tranel homes are frequently not high enough to provide refuge) to lumbering Plutonoduplers, to their own smaller predatory cousins. Eversorices will happily scavenge anything they find, and will even eat plants when nutritionally or starvationally necessary. All of these foods are processed in the Eversorices' complex gut, which has various specializations to deal with this highly varied diet.

Structurally, the Eversorices have advanced significantly from their ancestors. A secondary skeleton within them has provided more anchor points for a more complex musculature. The hybrid circulatory system of the Falcirices and their predecessors has continued to develop in these giants- a system of 'hearts' in the extremities pumps blood through the outer regions of the creature, then back into the animal's core, where it is refreshed with oxygen from the dorsal lungs.

Being the world's first 'superpredators', the Eversorices have a relatively small population. This is, of course, due to the large hunting area required by each of them. They wander throughout their territories, hunting and scavenging for all sorts of food. While their large size can be a downside, in preventing it from entering the densest forests without being painfully noisy and obvious, it also allows them to go for some time without food, hunt solo and unchallenged, and move with surprising speed.

Decloak: Named after the Eversor Temple, by any chance? :p I'm aware it's Latin for "Destroyer."

I can't say that I've heard of the Eversor Temple. For most of my evolutions, I simply add a latin word to a Suffix.

Spoiler :
Dwarf Bulgorb: Crezth
Evolved From: Uglybug
Genes (9): Digging x2, Water Retention x 2, Mass Reproduction x1, Jaws x1, Sticky Tongue x1, Flesh Eating x1, Walking x 1
Description: These small, dark-red creatures stand little more than half a foot off the ground on two legs. They are essentially contracted Uglybugs with legs. The Bulgorb claims as its signature trait a sticky profusion which it can spread with its tongue, capable of attracting and then trapping insects. It then retrieves the insects, no matter how tough their exoskeleton, and undoes them with its jaws. When danger nears, it burrows into the ground, having inherited the digging abilities of the Uglybug, and it still reproduces at a relatively quick pace. Gone, however, was the metabolism that enabled it the privilege of eating the dead, and the new lanky legs could not afford it the ability to leap as the Uglybug could.

Hunter Bulgorb : Crezth
Evolved from: Dwarf Bulgorb
Gene added (you can add 3, or 4 with bonus): Jaws x2, Flesh Eating x1, Walking x1
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 3 or 4 with bonus):
Description: Slightly larger than its predecessor, the Hunter Bulgorb is adapted with a tough jaw with allows it to crunch more difficult shells. The Hunter Bulgorb will patrol swamps, lake and riverbeds to find small fish and crustaceans which it will snag with its tongue and crunch down with its jaw. It is slightly speedier than the Dwarf, and retains the ability to capture bugs if the day's hunt was bad.

cool stuff, i must say i especially like the idea of the Eversorix!

@Crezth, Hunter Bulgorb sounds cool, but just to remind you it will still be almost blind and deaf! Tho, I dont see that being too much of a problem if it is randomly sweeping its sticky tongue around to touch things.

@Prometheus4096, welcome to the game! On the front page, I've tried to make things clear without being complicated. As you can see from the template thing, you can have 3 'genes' to start with, not just 2.

Also, please be aware that a very primitive species won't compare to the highly evolved stuff that already exists, unless it has something that really makes it stand out, some kind of unusual lifestyle that isnt already taken etc. You'd have to be very inventive to get something that could survive and compete with just a few 'genes'. Honestly, i dont think i could let yours survive the first update. It would have simplicity on its side, but there is a lot of competition for both sunlight and plankton.

I guess it is more fun to start your own line of evolution, but i think the game has suffered from people doing that too much.

As others have suggested, im thinking of preventing people starting brand-new primitive species. It might be better to only have evolutions of already-exisitng stuff from now on. You can still take an exisitng species and mould it into what you want, other players have done that very succesfully and ended up with whole branches of their own.

That's the idea.

@Daft- I agree that whole new branches shouldn't be allowed, UNLESS someone wants to evolve something genuinely different and unique- for example, the Bathyscaper is very unique, it developed in the deep ocean- however, the Nitros could have easily evolved from the Wormy or some other blobster.

Spoiler :
Chrontrevalion: Grombar
Evolved from: Phratrevalion
Genes (30): Complex Stomach x2, Flesh Eating x3, Swimming x1, Vibration Sense x2, Eyes x2, Brain Power x1, Skeleton x2, Cartilage x1, Jaws x2, Fangs x1, Communal Behavior x3, Water Retention x2, Lungs x1, Walking x3, Climbing x1, Parenting Instinct x2, Large Eggs x1
Description: One group or clan of the Phratrevalion line broke away during this stage of the evolutionary tree and started living and hunting more on the ground. With a stronger skeleton it was heavier and thus didn't climb as much though it could still get into the trees when it wanted/needed too (just took a bit more effort). Living on the ground and being heavier it needed to get more energy out of the food it ate and thus adapted to do such.

Gaeavalion
Evolved from: Chrontrevalion
Genes Added (Max 3): Live Birth x1, Brain Power x1, Water Retention x1
Genes Removed (Max 3): Large Eggs x1
Description: As time went on the Gaeavalion learned to adapt. With the climate warming up the need to hold fluids better was the most important improvement to this line. Along with this change was the radical switch from eggs to a live birth. Young born this way where more fully developed and the need to find cool areas to both lay the eggs and the need to protect the eggs before they hatched was removed. Lastly they became smarter. Food was getting faster, larger, smarter and the Gaeavalion needed to match them or even exceed them.

OOC: Is there a separate gene for running or should I just increase walking more if I want this to be a runner of sorts down the line?

@Lord_Iggy, I've edited the first page about brand new species. I've quoted your post if that's OK :)

@Grombar, I was thinking of a 'burst of speed' gene, but didn't know exactly what to call it, or how it would fit in exactly...

So at this point, 'walking' includes running.

For now, if you want something to run extra fast, you can increase its 'strength', and/or its 'lungs' to get faster metabolism etc. And a better skeleton/cartilage will help too.

Its from Warhammer 40k.

Evolution shortly.
