New civ hint - analysis

If Italy is out, what would be the European civ? I've seen Hungary thrown around but I doubt it will get in.
If I were a betting man, I would say that the remaining civs are Morocco, Indonesia (or Majapahit), the Sioux, and Venice.

Venice.

But aren't we pretty sure that Indonesia and Morocco are in?

Yeah. Let me clarify:

Assyria
Brazil
Indonesia
Morocco
Poland
Portugal
NEW
NEW
Zulu

The new two civs likely being Indonesia and Morocco is why A - P is off the list.

It is true that the alphabetical order hypothesis can pretty much crumble as soon as one thing is off, and I don't think anyone here would have it to be the end all be all of speculation.

That is exactly how everyone here is treating it. Every time a prospective civ is mentioned that would break the alphabetical order hypothesis, it is immediately shot down as thoroughly ruled out. The list is probably accurate, but it's being treated as though it were confirmed by a direct statement from the developers. Just look a few posts above mine. Could it be Belgium, someone asks? Nope! It's off the list! Out of the running! List says so!

It's a pretty solid foundation for evidence.

I mean, I think people are taking this hard stance just because it's the best point of reference with the little information we've got. There will always be hope for any civ as long as they are not revealed but we might as well go with a theory rather than nothing - of course, nobody is forced to believe these theories

I take the list of achievements as a good indicator of the remaining civs. I'm sure Steam and Fireaxis knew what they were doing when they created it to be alphabetical. Could it be false? Sure. To be honest I want it to be false because then I can have Italy. But it's not likely.

So if this is "Indonesia," does that mean Italy is out? Could Italy be in if this is "Majapahit?" If not Italy or Venice, which European civ would be left? Or maybe Morocco is the "European" civ they mentioned because it includes Al-Andalus?

Venice is still safe even with Moors and Indonesia in, Italy however will be ruled out as soon as we have the confirmation of the names and consequently their places on the achievement.

So given that we need to search between P and Z...how about Romania/Transylvania, with Vlad as the leader?

It WOULD make for an epic troll civ.

It's a hypothesis. Not a fact.

I'm not saying it's likely to be wrong. I'm not even saying it's wrong to use it to inform further speculation. But this whole "It cannot be such-and-such a civ because there's no room on the list" business is being treated as a dead certainty when in fact it is not. I'm pretty sure Belgium is out, and I'm pretty sure of it because of that list. But that doesn't mean I feel safe declaring that Belgium IS DEFINITELY out. Because then I'd look pretty stupid if their last European civ is Belgium, wouldn't I?

A part of me wants it to be false just so that every single theory we stressed over throughout the speculation is shown to be wrong

To each their own. I see it as an actual indicator for which civs can remain due to the alphabetical nature of the list. Would I feel like an idiot if Belgium made it in? Hell no. The whole point of this sub forum is to speculate. The more substantial pieces of information that comes out gives us more to go on. As I said, there could be a chance the list is somehow only making the known civs as alphabetical but the way the hidden ones were placed says likewise. Is it fact? No. Is it enough to go on and declare which civs have a chance of getting in? Yes, in my opinion.

And as I said before: I wouldn't even feel like an idiot if the list was false because it would give us more freedom to speculate which can make it in. Including Italy. Which I really, really wanted.

Ironic that Marrakesh and Jakarta were just added as city-states in Gods & Kings, only to be sent up to the show the very next expansion.

That's the trouble with the minor leagues... hard to keep good talent. :D

What else was added?
