I know they only touched on this briefly. But I have to wonder what changes could be in the works for the less than capable combat AI?

IMO I feel that new melee naval units will go a long way to improve naval combat. And the article mentions a AI using a more balanced army composition, so I cannot wait to learn more about this.

I hope they remove the instant heal promotion it was kinda broken

Yes you don't get a promotion but you basicly break through the enemy lines

Well as far as I have understood it, your units will make less damage than before (percentage wise of another units full health bar) so the battles will last longer which would give the AI more time to get reinforcements to the front. I often use a small force and attack the AI pretty quickly and kill a steady stream of units (in battles where I often have a numerical advantage even though the AI has way more units in its control than me) so if I would have to spend more time killing the same amount of units the AI would prob be able to arrive with a too large army for my small group to take (at least easily)

I'm hoping that a significant effort went/is going in to the tactical AI and how the AI runs operations. It would make sense to do that if they're re-working combat, and weak combat AI was one of the most common complaints (but it always is ...).

They also mentioned hitpoints are out of 100 now instead of 10, so that supports CTH's idea above ... it'd be lame to turn down damage so attacks do 2 or 3 typically IMO, the integer effects are big at that level.

Maybe they're bringing back stacks of doom.

On a more serious note, it's really up in the air, if you ask me.

I dunno, but we don't know for sure everything about what changes they're making. We don't know what changes they're making towards the combat AI.

I think you're right. However, this emphasis on longer use by hurt units REALLY makes Bushido powerful.

I think the instant heal promotion will provide a set amount of hit points back to the unit instead of fully healing the unit. So maybe like 50/100 hit points, or something like that.

I also think it'll take longer to kill units, which will help the AI out when I surprise attack them and most of their military can't get there in time. I just hope they don't make it TOO difficult to kill units.

yeah. If you assume a 'normal' unit would take 2-3 hits in vanilla, and maybe 4-5 hits in the xpac (random guesses) then Bushido will get much more potent.

Ofc, that also means that the SP in Autocracy will also become stronger (do more damage when hurt) if it's scaled the same as in Vanilla (%wise).

I'm also interested in what they are going to do with cities. Will cities get higher attack values? Will they get higher defense values? Will garrisons change a city's defense? Will it be easier/harder to take down a city?

To be honest I am kind of afraid of what may happen with this. Only thing I feel they could really butcher.

Fights better not be TOO long either. A bit longer perhaps, but hopefully won't be so broken that it could be easy to shuffle units to front/back.
