New DLCs?

The winter ends this week.
We will get a spring DLC. I think April is a the best month for the next DLC.

We have enough civs and scenarios to keep me happy for now. My next civ purchase will probably be the next expansion. I'm more interested in new game mechanics like loyalty and governors than extra civs/maps/scenarios at the moment. I want so see some kind of Diplomatic/commerce victory type

I hope there will be DLC content between now and the next expansion. I'll be concerned, though, if we don't hear anything (or discover clues in the game files) by June 1st. I think that if anything's coming, they'll reveal it within the next few months.

I will start digging through the game files once I have tried everything in the expansion and return to try and fix my unfinishable mod.

 That's funny, you're funny.
They did it before with Civ V's Mongols! :p

Don't think Firaxis is in the charity business.
But one thing is for sure...whatever they offer they can never force us to spend our money!
It's not the fact that they price DLC that irks me so much as the high price of the DLC, comparative to the base game or even expansion. Hence the extremely low ratings on Civ VI DLC.

map pack dlc with some fun maps like "Boreal" or "Great Plains" or "Doughnut" or "Terra" or "Maze" or stuff like that. Instant buy!

Would there be any post-expansion dlc? Would that even be a wise move? Wouldn't they have to have abilities that don't affect the R&F features? Unless, of course, it's part of an update for R&F.

Given the pattern of Firaxis to release seasonal updates in the last year, I would bet something might come around the Spring Update time and probably a Summer and Fall something as well.

Personally, what I would love to see is a DLC that provides a pack of alternate leaders for many or most of the base Civs to change things up or work the old civs with the R&F mechanics in new ways. The concept of unique leader abilities was a great one with Civ 6 and I'd really love to see more official content working with this idea. I'd love to have every civ with at least 2 leaders to choose from with different play styles.

We won't see a teaser about a DLC until after the first R+F patch, I suspect. Firaxis is usually pretty good at not stepping on their own... feet... about the optics of "pay for patching". Which in this case is kind of terrible since we don't KNOW if they plan on doing any post R+F DLC, and it would be nice to know if they plan on doing any.

I have a feeling we're not going to get any new Civs in DLC. Just a hunch. Probably a map pack or something though.

New DLC civs wouldn't have to follow many specific rules to work with both R&F and Vanilla. You may have noticed that R&F is actually a "ruleset" that just adds some new rules. As long as the new civs don't specifically interact with Loyalty or Governors, maybe a handful of other systems, they should be fine.

Note that Poland for example rolled out at the same time as the new (at the time) Culture Bomb mechanic. That mechanic is built into the Vanilla DLL files for all players, those with Poland and not. Since RF is a ruleset that lies on top of Vanilla, not a total recode, it should be fairly easy to implement new civs that work for both, if they want to.

I think you guys are missing a big opportunity for DLC - scenarios. The scenarios so far have come with their own ruleset and unique features (like resources, units, etc.) so they should be able to work on either vanilla or R&F. It may even be good marketing to include a scenario with loyalty that vanilla owners can purchase for a few $$ that 'wets their appetite' for more!

I don't think we need a map pack as there are plenty of great mods that provide new maps and map scripts.

I would like to see some alternative leaders for existing Civs. I think that is a mechanic that is under utilized.

We are in dire need of new map scripts, as well as improved AI and diplomacy. I think we have plenty of civs to try for the time being. So ideally some free map pack DLC and patches.

Completely different groups here, Art and Design have little overlap to scripting and AI. One does not preclude the other, I mean it isn't like they are going to totally overhaul their team.

I just want new leaders - having India and Greece as the only two civs with alternate leaders is just bizarre. Why even bother having alternate leaders at all if only a handful of civs get them?

I thought the same, but apparently the feature was originally designed (under Ed) only to aid modders, however, with Anton taking over the lead role and already introducing an alt leader I think we will see some more love to the alt leader mechanic.

2K pushing for In-app purchases, they must do more DLC Civs.

That has been a bit overblown. First civ has had a DLC model from before they were even under the 2k roof, so it isn't like anything has changed for them. Moreover, that whole thing came from an earnings report where management is explaining their earnings to shareholders, in particular they were justifying NBA and GTA Online which both have micro transactions systems that are doing very well. The comment in particular was addressing how they would capitalize on Red Dead Redemption which shares similarities to GTA. Further since those games were overpreforming they stated they would look at how to apply those concepts across the board, but that is a nothing statement. I mean they can't even apply one of those to the other. The micro transaction system in place for NBA wouldn't even work in GTA. All they did was say they are going to look for ways to maximize their profits, which is what they were already doing. Further, Friaxis is a subsidiary that works in a niche market (i.e. nothing they do has much relation to the rest of the 2k catalog) and they do well, financially, so unless the tides turn there is not much incentive for 2k to rock the boat.

I don't think anything I said mentioned an overhaul. My point was that Firaxis should focus their energy not on new DLC civs but on other more important things like map scripts and AI improvements for now. Hopefully, the other new civs in the works are for the 2nd expansion, not another wave of paid DLC sure to alienate many.

Well for them to focus on AI would require a team overhaul. As it is, the majority of the team are artists and designers so to switch focus would require hiring or retraining the current team to work on AI and scripting. So without totally changing their team they would only be able to continue down their current path which is more heavily focused on civs/features over AI/scripting.

Also, that is really what the majority of the playerbase wants so they don't have much incentive to switch it up. I know there is a very vocal group on the forums that find the AI to "unacceptable", but for most players that is not the case.

While that's going on, the one AI guy they do have on staff is, I hope, not doing nothing. So if the overall team is working on DLCs, he presumably has time to be tweaking the AI based on the data they're getting from Steam and the feedback from this forum and Reddit.

If they're working on a second expansion, it's more likely he's spending his time coding the AI to handle whatever new features that expansion has planned.
