New Expansion Speculation Thread

That's pretty compelling to me. Preemptive whining: I strongly dislike some of the civ and leader choices.
I don't mind most of them, but I would much rather have another returning European nation and a Native American Tribe instead of Burma and the Noongar

Civ 6: The Oncoming Storm

Even though I'm disappointed with the storm video and how we are waiting so long to find out what the stream is for, I'm just glad we're highly likely getting the announcement of the 2nd expansion.

This does make me think they could actually implement natural disasters as more of a 'countdown'/global mechanic - ala winter in Endless Legend, barbarians in the Settlers of Catan Cities and Knights expansion. Instead of the localized/random I've been imagining.

So Vesuvius is The Gathering Storm? Guess we won't have to wait too much longer for some more news...

We'll likely know either way soon, but "Vesuvius" feels more like a placeholder name for the supposed expansion (assuming it's legitimate). Whether it's a Natural Wonder or in reference to the disastrous eruption, it would most likely only be one of several; it'd be like naming an entire expansion with eight or ten Civs "The Ottomans" because they happen to be included, for example. Just my personal thoughts on the topic.

Whether this hours-long video of various weather and clouds might indicate some form of weather pattern mechanic for Civ VI (which would be difficult to simulate in a game whose turns represent entire years, decades, or centuries) or hints at some sort of natural disaster scenario mechanic is impossible to say, but I know one thing: I'd personally MUCH prefer a 30-second teaser video that says "Watch This Space" or "Tune In At Such-And-Such-A-Time" to what Firaxis is doing with this "promotion". Sure it's drawn a lot of attention, but the viewership has been dropping steadily for hours now. They just need to come out and say what it's about.

Or like the Winter in Frostpunk or Wildling invasion in Game of Thrones board game.

This seems very possible.

Perhaps there'll be effects like global weirding. Personally I think there should also be consequences for dropping too many nukes.

Civ 6: This time we gave someone chest hair

Civ 6: Winter is Coming.

You know...

The (alleged) Hungarian Translator guy said the game would be called Time and Tide...

Bang goes the Dynamite...
Time and Tide
T and T
TNT...

For better or worse, the leaks may have been right on the money...
This whole time-lapse apocalypse does reinforce the possibility that the leaks are accurate.

We're already speculating that this weather phenomenon is going to lead to some sort of coastal flooding of the imaginary city. And this teaser is clearly showing the passage of time...

As someone who doesn't really want the leaked Civ list to be accurate, I'm worried :undecide: Of course, there's always the possibility that the Hungarian translator was given a partially wrong list of Civs to head off any leaks, but part of me doubts Firaxis would go to that much effort.

Sadly doesn't work like that (assuming Firaxis did their research). Dynamite's primary explosive is nitroglycerin, TNT's explosive is, well, TNT (trinitrotoluene). In comic books, dynamite is the bar someone throws that explodes, TNT is the box with the handle you push down, and the offscreen explosion.

I’d rather have a Native American country instead of America, but developer bias, right?
Developer bias would also explain the addition of Australia as a playable civ.

I really hope if the focus is on climate change late in the game, we will see a major rework and expansion of the industrial era tech tree and forward, even adding a future era. I miss Giant Death Robots!
