New Expansion Speculation Thread

I actually feel Kristina is not a bad choice for a more culturally and/or scientifically focused Sweden, the two obvious choices (her father Gustav(us) and Karl XII) being mostly known for their military pursuits. Sure, her Catholic turn and abdication at a relatively young age overshadow much of what she did, but she did have a keen interest in art, science, philosophy, and religion, and wanted Stockholm to be the "Athens of the North". If we must have Sweden in the game (which I don't consider an absolute necessity, Norway is good enough Norse representation in my eyes) I don't mind Kristina leading it.

And that's speaking as a Swede.
Her ability would probably work quite well with the noble prize ability if (Sweden gets that one again).

A mountie obviously :p
Can we get the mountie riding a moose no matter how historically inaccurate it would be?
I envision the cossacks riding bears already.

Mountie UU and Maple Plantation UI?

I don't know anything about Canada really so apologies if these are terrible/stereotypical suggestions!

About Swedish rulers..

Gustaf Adolph:
- Didnt listen to advice of Oxenstierna, wisest statesman in Europe that time
- Too fat to wear body armor in combat
- Could have ended the Thirty years war by marching into imperial heartlands, instead chose foolishly to engage in combat during a thick mist
- Crazy lust for war and death

Carl XII
- Attacked Russia without proper planning for logistics
- Lost his own personal battle of Stalingrad (in Pultava) that ended Swedish Empire's reign in power
- Escapedd to Turkey instead of honorable seppuku
- Idolised by neo nazis
- Was an absolutist, like Hitler

Queen Kristina
- Got crowned at age 5 - what did you achieve by age 5 ? lol
- Ended Thirty years war even though her councils and marshals wanted to keep going(to make profit)
- Invited top scientists and philosophers like Rene Descartes to Sweden
- killed Rene Descartes
- Chancellor Oxenstierna described her as "not at all like a female person, but brave and clearminded"
- Created three academies, had her own personal chemistry lab
- Expert rider
- Books, films and plays about her
- Killed Peter the Great in combat, avenging his father

Kristina killed Peter the Great... what are you talking about? Also, when I originally googled her I wasn't sure if I found the right link and when I got into wikipedia and saw the portrait I was like: "Oh wait, yup that's her". I really like how well Firaxis captures likenesses.

But also, I previously thought Carolus Rex was more highly regarded than you make him seem. Something of a Colonel Kurtz-type genius that had an immortality legend surrounding him during his campaigns. Didn't he revolutionize military organization and tactics to some extent as well, maybe pioneering pike and shot formations? Too bad to hear about neo nazis idolizing him, I wasn't aware of that. It would have been interesting to see what Europe would have been like if Sweden became a super power. Kind of like if Harold Godwinson had won at Hastings as well, haha.

Mountie is the obvious pick but it will not happen as it would have to be a cav replacement like the Rough Rider. I suspect a mech infantry or artillery UU for Canada if Canada actually makes it.

If Laurier is leader for Canada, I wonder if there will be an immigration/emigration mechanic? That was what he was most known for from the history classes I remember.

If that becomes true and Canada brings an immigration/emigration mechanic I'll be happy to welcome them in our Civ family

The question Civ as a game poses is not say was Kristina the greatest leader of Sweden"or even a great leader in her time. It's did she display qualities that could make her a great leader if she csme back and ruled for 6000 years as some sort of Demigod :)

Though I'm not 100% sold in this leak either. I'm inclined to think they have some of the details/leaders but maybe not all and are filling in the blanks with guess work.

I was under the impression that a Mountie was more of a police/detective than an actual fighting calvaryman.

Dido was a Phoenician queen-consort before she, according to legend, lost her hubbyboo to her greedy homicidal brother-in-law's evil schemes. So she was like "I'm outta here" and left. She then tricked some Numidian prince into giving her a massive swath of land in what is now Tunisia, where she built a wonderful city that would become the world's first maritime empire: Carthage.

And you wonder why she's my avatar :p

So, they announce "Weather Forecast simulator 2019" for mobile instead of the expansion. How mad you are?

We can shake hands on that one. Only thing that comes to mind about Canadian history is their help in liberating my country, The Netherlands, during WW2.

Ice Hockey Arena replacing Stadium would be my guess, though it would be super late.
They are a late game Civ however.

You are mostly correct, but they did fight during a couple of rebellions... against the Cree in part, and had used cannon and gatling guns in combat during those rebellions. But they were not primarily combat troops. And that was very early in their history.
