Yup. If all the leader styles appealed to me, firaxis would have made them too narrowly. And his ability is a more interesting spin on warfare than say Chandragupta in civ6 so. Gonna swipe left, but wishing him all the best - he seems sweet.
Charlemagne was a leader we all expected to see at some point. It’s great to have him; he’s a very interesting choice. I hope we see the Franks someday.
YES! I've been waiting for his return for a long while, and I'm very pleased he's back!! I may play him, probably with a Civ that has+Settlement limit. (Rome?)
I like the details of his pot belly (Charlemagne did become quite corpulent after he became Emperor) and the language (sounds like Old Dutch or Low German - I can understand the words moreso than I could Barbarossa's, and the pronounciation of "wisdom" suggests the VA is Flemish).
Abilities are good. Free cav upon celebration means I can just place my happiness buildings and don't have to worry about being weak.
The Normans already fill the role of what I would have wanted from the Exploration Carolingians, which is the Crusading Knights theme. I bet they'd probably just have Antiquity Franks, which could have a little bonus from the Carolingian Empire, that could then lead to Ancién Regime France, and Holy Roman Empire Germany.
Lots to glean from the Modern screenshot at the end. I see Radio Towers, a Hangar, possibly a Museum, a Department Store(?), two kinds of Factory looking buildings, a some buildings that look like they could be a palace but aren’t (Salon?), an aircraft carrier, etc
The British might now be even less likely. The only modern European civ that is shown too much is France, and it seems they’re keeping the others under wraps.
I doubt we'll have Ancien Régime France, as that's one mouthful of a name. Naming it after specific dynasties is likely to cause confusion, and naming it Kingdom of France to
If we absokutely get second France, it will probably be Capetien/Bourbon/Valois, but one direction I'd really like to see instead is the chief and principal kinda-HRE, kinda-French, kinda-Low Countries Medieval to Early Modern courtly troublemaker: Burgundy. It would do beautifully as a more economic/culture-centric precursor to modern Dutch and France.

I doubt the Franks will ever be included. The Goths will fill that role, Goths-> Holy Roman Empire-> Germany. I really wanted a Templar Unique Military Unit, but despite the inclusion of the Normans, the chances haven't entirely vanished. A Templar land unit recruited through Independent Cities is possible, and if that never happens, then the Holy Roman Empire might get Teutonic knights as the Unique Military Unit.

I think, considering how often London and its layers of history are referenced, it would be weird not to include modern England or the British empire in the base game.

You're right that the Goths are more likely. I'm not sure the Franks or Carolingians are actually needed when their biggest asset, Charlemagne, is already included and leaders are divorced from civs. It's all just hypothetical speculation at this point.
A little disappointed as I was looking forward to William the Conqueror, and he seems very unlikely wedged between Charlemagne and 2x Napoleon. I hope we get him eventually, though. This just blew the door wide open for Zenobia.
Btw we already have confirmations about the number of civs on release (30 + shawnee), but do we know how many leaders will be there on release (including Tecumseh)?
