New game from Firaxis: Sid Meier's Spaceships

Sid was playing on Hard.
now if Sid did choose to play differently by buying 1 armor module and 1 level in Xenomaterials. it would be 120 hp vs 105 hp. he should have won the stealth fighter(s) mission.

btw, fighters are op. since lasers are long-range weapons, their damage will be cut by shields. fighters are fast and use cannons. since a spaceship can move after firing, speed is essential. a fighter is one less shot to your starship!

disagree. it's a mobile game ported to PC.

Ah thank you.

I don't find that an apt or fair comparison.

IMO, it's better to judge a game based on its own merits. Starships is a $15 light strategy game explicitly designed for short play sessions. Does it succeed in that? Is the game fun to play?

I think the let's plays and video previews have made it pretty clear what this game is about.

Sure, but that still leaves room for disappointment. If the creator of your favourite franchite is creating a game, you are totally hyped. And then you get gettysburg. And then you get pirates. And then you get civ:revolution. And then you get civ:world. And then you get a mobile device space game....

Each might be good for what it is, but for the createor of one of the top5 game franchites of all time, still disappointing

It only leaves room for disappointment if you set yourself up for disappointment. It's a video game, not a Net Neutrality vote.

There are people that enjoyed the games you listed. Just because you don't, doesn't make them any less of a game.

The same goes for people that deride Starships as "casual". Any game could be called "casual" when compared to something considerably more complicated.

Pretty much every game made could be considered casual compared to Dwarf Fortress [emoji14]

I can understand of you don't like the direction Sid is going with his game design, but they were very up front and very clear from the beginning on what Starships was going to be.

I'm enjoying Starships so far. I think my 15-16-year-old self who played Civ II a little and dabbled in tabletop gaming but never found either very accessible would have loved it (To some, that's probably not much of a compliment but I mean it in a good way), and my 35-year-old self finds it a nice little diversion between long Civ campaigns. Not a classic but I think it fills its own little niche pretty nicely. Definitely not deserving of all the mean-spirited comments about how it's a sign that Sid Meier should retire or whatever (I don't mean on this forum, which I think does a pretty good job of sticking to constructive criticism).
