Hello all - as prompted, here is a thread for discussion of forum games that continue in the vein of Neal's King of the World series. Earth maps have always been a favorite of mine, but we've had an unfortunate lack of forum games like Neal's since he posted his last update last spring. Although I don't think I have the poetic flourish that Neal displayed, I'm willing to commit to one in the next month or so, studies allowing. However, I need your help choosing which civ/leader to play!

Here's the list of civs Neal used:
Spoiler :
Montezuma
Frederick
Tokugawa
Mansa Musa
Isabella
Huayna Capac
Saladin
Shaka
Genghis Khan
Charles de Gaulle (OCC)
Darius I
Sitting Bull
Asoka
Every civ in one game (this is an exemplary KotW, check it out if you haven't already read it)
Ragnar on Ice Age Earth
Julius Caesar
Peter-in-England on Earth Shuffle
Lincoln on 34 civs Earth

Which leaves us with quite a few leaders! I caDon't be afraid to suggest a leader who's already been played if we can take a different take on it. I'm a big fan of world conquest/conquest of Eurasia, so let's aim for an interesting leader for this WC.

Some ideas - Suryavarman in SE Asia. Gandhi/Asoka going for Domination. Ottomans. Ethiopia (with modified start). Dutch/Portuguese - maybe a colonization - domination game. Napoleon. Sumer/Babylon.

Thanks for your help!

I did something similar to that before school caught up with me, although once my projects die down soon, I'm considering restarting my past series with a twist, using regional maps instead of full blown earth maps.

Sorry, got caught off rambling. I support your idea of Sury, but pile on the AIs that border you. Mao, Asoka, Toku, Wang Kong, Genghis, and Cyrus. Then throw in Mali, Egypt, Zulu, Spain/Portugal, Germany, Greece, and Russia. Maybe the USA/Aztec/Maya/Native Americans, and don't bother with the Inca. They just sit their doing nothing unless you're using a modified earth map.

Neal linked this thread in his last game for the 40 civs mod. I won't bother with it for now, both because my laptop's finicky with mods and standard Earth map is too crowded for 34 civs, especially Europe. Expanded Europe 34 civs might be an interesting case in the future, but now I'll stick to Earth 18civs and the leaders I can worldbuilder/xml in fairly easily.

Cheers.

If you're able to play the 34-civ mod, it might be fun to see Ulysses Grant take over for zombie Lincoln and finish the job. Another idea is a terra/colonization map in which the Old World is loaded with civs. Joao would be a little too easy; maybe Ragnar, or even some land-locked sap.

Maybe the English with a domination victory. Dominate the Chinese by getting them addicted to Opium. :) The Ottomans would be fun too.

I like Suryavarman, just because noone but mad seems to like him (and he likes him too much sometimes ;-)), but that would require at least worldbuildering him in?

Okay it looks like we've decided on Suryavarman! It will be simple for me to use xml files to put him in. Anyway, I figure I'll swap Greece for Korea and Inca for Khmer, both usually negligible civs most of the time. I could also go for some flavor swaps - different leaders for the Europeans, or Babylon instead of Arabia, maybe remove New World civs entirely to allow for serious colonization. Or, we could stick with a more faithful Earth map, mostly the basic civs only.

Or you could use this!

See the link if you want to know exactly what it is, but I'll leave it at, it's easier than worldbuilder IMO. If you do decide to use it, scroll down to the bottom and download the edited version by another person, which is much improved.
