New NESes, ideas, development, etc

Heey! I can use that for my Civ mods. Thanks!

@bombshoo, thanks for the link! Cool page, although watch out for some innacuracies - it seems a couple of the dates only apply to when things were introduced to europe, not the actual 'invention' (well I guarantee you that the Ottomans were using a form of vaccination long before the English envoys copied the idea from them).

It's time to start planning rules and ideas for the next NESsos.

I want to start with the idea design, I want to hear your ideas people.

NESsos as in one-state NES? I say either Rome in its growing days or Persian and Greek empires period.

Why not NESsos in it's own right? The city of NESsos in the land Cafnatica.

anyway yeah maybe we do need to base it on the ideal of Rome...

In a one city-state where players play characters/families what do you players want to do?

I say Rome is better because its in a universe that was pretty well described, but if you can handle Nessos - go ahead! I'd love to play there...

As for character you play would be the leader of your family, one other character in your family (doesn't have to be the heir but must be male for now) and if you want a third character from any other family (on a first come first serve basis, but remember that character is part of ANOTHER family)

Another idea is where we all play one family... Would lead to interesting family interactions...

This sounds exciting. If You do the one family idea, It'd be better as one big family. Though I think a few families is safe, as they will inevitably be connected over time anyways.

Problem will be when family women will marry someone out of the played family... Then it would bring NPC families into play, something I'm not sure I want. So each player making a family would be best as there will be enough families to not need anything NPC but outside states. Maybe I'll have to allow families to move out of Nessos as it expands...

If they move out, do they lose importance in Nessos?

Just another thing you might want to add to stats is number of servants/slaves.

That could be part of treasury... :p. I don't want a too advanced family economy system since this is not an economy NES...

Nessos Royal family from foundation to end:
*Dasius Symphonious Nessus the founder (45) spouse: Cheafesia (50)
*Gelonius Dasius Nessos the great (36) spouse: Cuivienen the witch (40)
*Jasonic Gelonious Nessos the heart broken (24), *Gracious Gelonious Nessoss the mighty (28) and *Euripides the murderer (37)
Herpedis (1), Olivia (1)

The history of Nessos is one written in blood. Its beginning appears in history with the appearance of the Nessus family. Dasius Symphonious Nessus was a rich young men who looked for a new home for his family and slaves. He took all his father’s riches after the man’s death and moved across vast lands until coming up to a river with a few surrounding hills and rich farmlands. He built his villa on the highest hill and his slaves and workers farmed in the rich lands to its north.
The Nessus villa was small and not until Dasius was 25 did he have his first son. But alas after his birth Dasius has gone to the Oracle of the city of Pila to ask for the god’s blessing and what he got instead was a horrible prediction.
“The one young baby will one day grow. His hands would bleed his father and the riches would be his and your family will not know peace after that.”
Dasius did not wish to believe this prophecy but he had no choice. He took his son when he was just a few weeks old and left him in the northern Arkadian forests. He couldn’t kill his own son by himself and so he left the baby to die there. Dasius never had the will or hope to have another son.

Time has passed and the Nessus villa grew bigger and stronger. Now having a small militia and a happy village built east to the villa. Many worked the wheat fields and a few even brought olive seeds, seeds from a tree that would one day by a symbol to Nessus greatness. Under the fair but somewhat ruthless rule of Dasius the Founder the people prospered but Dasius was harsh to the people and his judgment usually ended up in the execution of men and women for even the slightest crime. Yet all was ready to change. When he turned 44 the Oracle personally came to the village of Nessus and brought him news. The Oracle spoke of a young man seen in Pila, looking for his father who abandoned him to die so long ago. Both knew the meaning of this was the end for Dasius and the Oracle knew that was also bad news from to gods to his own city.

Dasius turned 45 and the day after a man appeared at his door. His eyes were hazy and his face red with rage. Dasius knew the meaning. He fell to his feet as the young man ran to him and cut his head off in one slash. The young man then caught the Oracle who was still there to see his premonition coming to truth and made him speak the truth of the young man origin. Cheafesia his mother welcomed him to the house and for five long years taught him of the village and of ruling it. He took the name Gelonius Dasius Nessos and ruled the village with a good heart but a strong will. Everyone cheered at the great change of leadership as executions were much less known after Gelonius came to rule. He took a wife from a royal family that lived in the city, the Crassus family. Cuivienen was a beautiful woman who Gelonius fell in love with at first sight. A year didn’t pass since he took over the village and already a young healthy son was born to him.

Jasonic, Gracious and Euripides were his three sons by order. When he reached 36 he died mysteriously one day in his room. Until then he expanded the city, rebuilt the villa into a beautiful mansion and created the ports of Nessos and the great bridges. Jasonic took the throne when he was just 16. His mother taught him of how his father ruled but always somehow tricked him into making wrong choices. She also was mysteriously found dead near the mansion’s southern wall, most likely poisoned. Since her death Jasonic ruled more wisely and better.

When Gracious turned 16 Jasonic decided to send him to the academy of Pila for military training. He decided to make him a general of the family. When Euripides was 16 he sent him to the academy of arts in Pila. Euripides did not enjoy the choice.

When Jasonic turned 23 he took a wife from Pila and had his first child Herpedis. But the child would not last. Only one year old he was found dead the same way his grandparents were. The pain was too great for Jasonic who called Gracious to return from his studies and rule instead of him. Jasonic hanged himself when he was just a young man aged 24. Gracious took the rule and with his knowledge of war begun to expand Nessos the most it has ever seen. New walls were built around what was now known as the city of Nessos. New troops were trained and several skirmishes were fought with the Arkadian barbarian tribe. The barbarians left and the city was flourishing. He paved the roads to Pila and signed an alliance with their rulers. When he was 22 he had his first daughter, Olivia. He named her after the olive trees that grew in the olive farms north to the city and brought riches with their trade. Yet not unlike his older brother’s son, Olivia died mysteriously when she is just one year old, as well as his wife and Jasonic’s wife. He didn’t know what to do. His family was dying, and he had to protect them. The Mugduls invaded Pila when he was 25. Pila requested aid and Gracious, up for his words, went with an army to Pila to help defeat the Mugduls. He left his last family member, Euripides with ruling the city until he comes back.

For five harsh years Gracious the Mighty fought Mugdul armies until the Mugdul declared they will cease their attacks on Pila in return for being allowed to settle the southern forests. Pila agreed and Gracious was on his way to Nessos. He was stopped by a large Mugdul army. In the great battle he took many Mugdul lives but their weapons seemed to improve, as well as their numbers and training. After a week of fighting his army was defeated and the Mugdul army asked for him in return for his men life. He agreed and left with the Mugdul army while the Nessosian one returned home with the horrible news. Gracious would never be heard of again. Euripides had finally reached the point he had all he want. He changed his family name to the one his mother held – Crassus and declared the city of Nessos is no more and now the city of Euripidespolis would replace it. The people were scared and many were killed in his demonic days. For ten whole years he ruled Nessos. He never had any sons or daughters or even a wife. His mind was set on conquering the world as he sent armies to die on the hands of Arkadian barbarians. After 10 whole years the people and army have had enough. The peasants quietly poisoned the Crassus family food supplies and killed it. Euripides was nervous and raging with anger he commanded his general to burn the peasant’s houses. The general, an unknown man, refused and as Euripides commanded him to kill himself he instead put a sword in his stomach. Euripides days were finally over. The ruler of terror over the city has finally come to a stop. The people, believing anyone who will be king would end up the same with the Oracle prediction decided its best to copy Pila’s government. A citizen’s senate was formed out of the citizens of Pila as several rich families begun to vow for power. The Nessos Mansion was rebuilt into a great senate house, bigger then even Pila’s and the people’s republic of Nessos was formed. Will things remain the same? Will they change? For best or worst it is your choice to do.

The game will begin five years after the death of Euripides the Murderer. This date is when the senate building was finished and first update will be known as 1AC – after completion – of the senate building.

Awsome! I also got an 'Idea' and although is is more like a 'Lazy-NES' or 'NESlite', a good mod can pump and update every... 5 minuets? (my record with my friends is 7 minuets!!!)

This is a sample of the stats.

Lillian
5gpt (5/0/0)
400 Crossbowmen, 30 Galleys.

Indeed! All I need to talk about now is 'gpt' and troops.

Gold Per Turn is EP, except because my angreynes of '1ep' states as they are not 'a state owned totally by a mega-corp' Instead, my 5 Gold per turn for the capital means that anybody has addiquite money.

So you get gold from (Cities/Misc/Trade)

in the Ancient Age, the cities give 2 gpt, 5 if a capital, and some other stuff for special conditions. A city costs 10 gold, a good reason, and is -1 gpt for 2 turns before turning in a profit.

Misc includes: Projects, debt, mines, irrigration, looting, raping......

Trade between nations is all your city income and theirs added together. Divided by 10 and rounded up. (ie, 14 and 16 +30/10=3gpt)
A city can trade with one nation at a time.

Troops is on my 100-1 method.
(100/80/60/40/20/10/5/1) (changed due to thinking)
100 Spearmen
Levied troops, may be good but best with numbers
80 Archers
First ranged troops, levied but with a good bow and training can kill armies of spearmen.
60 Swordsmen
TECH: Advanced Bronzeworking and Iron resource.
Armed with a sword and shield, they are the first all round warriors in this game.
40 Crossbows (or should it be Pikes/Phalax?)
Better than swords or archers obviously, would be added after discussion.
20 Chariots
Wheel and Horse Taming
Armed with a lance or a bow, a strong unit but suspectable to A.S squares. (Archer/Spears)
10 Horsemen
Horse Riding, Horse Domestication
Armed with a sword and shield or a bow, strong, fast, but also costly.
5 Galleys
First navy for most players, modeeratly trained and can be merchated or sold. They are generic and not powerful.
1 'Pinnice or Yacht'
Sails
For a lack of a better name. They are bigger and more manuverable but also need wind. They are the first to be continously and success leave sight Of land.

This is for Ancient Period (ie, from 1000 BCE to 0CE on my time line.)
The stats would be filled out, since currently this is played on paper and demands speed. Also, please look at it and critique it for the fast game and the long game. Ahmad is trying Legends of Wars that is a 'Neslite' and fast paced. Also, I want to know changes for the paper and forum games to this set. I am too busy to post after 0 CE stuff but rest assured they're there!

In other words, I might start a Lazy Nes after finding a better MOD/mapmaker... :hmm:

this is the first "rule" I wrote.

Joining
*Any player can join. Every player that joins must create a family. Every player will choose if to play between 1 and 3 characters.
*If you choose to play only one character then you will play the head of your family.
*If you choose to play two characters then you must play the head of your family and one family member of your choice. It doesn’t have to be the heir but it does have to be a male.
*If you choose to play three characters then you must play the head of your family, you must choose one character from your family (doesn’t have to be heir, must be male) and you can choose one character from any other family (on a first come first serve basis – first to want it get it, unless the player who made that family wants it in which case he gets the man).
*Remember, each character has a DIFFERENT personality! If you cannot see yourself playing as 3 or 2 different people please only play as one!
*You get to choose the first traits of your characters, but only under my supervision. For every 3 good traits you will have to have 2 bad ones.
*You cannot switch characters. Only if one dies you may switch it.
*You may play heirs to other families but only if your own heir is also played by another player (preferably the player who’s heir you control or some kind of mixed players controlling each other’s heirs). This will bring much needed variety to families as players switch families they hold as time passes. Remember your family isn’t the basis of your game, your characters are.

What do you guys think? It will make for a very interesting game would it not?

Good for roleplay, but in my game families were the actors, not really the presonalities. I say even one character is more than enough, as if a player chooses he can introduce more and more characters to his stories - they all come from his family. In Rome it was possible to occupy a few positions in the state, so why Nessos should be different? I see no point in the additional characters as their functions are either to occupy positions (can be done by one guy) or for storyline (can be done by the player independantly)
Eagerly awaiting the rest of the rules!

I loved the intro story! :D My poor neighbours its 10 to midnight here....

Well I don't want players to control their families. Families don't always stand behind their leader. A son may assassinate his father and other brothers in order to rule... One can also be bribed...

But this remain to be thought about. Do families or personals matter more.

Go deep, access your genetic memory and you'll get the answer ;)...

In humans families matter more... Thats how we evolved ;) If your family survives there is more of a chance your DNA or some of it at least will spread. Humans are weak creatures alone...

Basing the game on families would make it more like a NES (maybe later in game it will look like RTW and some families will own cities or territories) while basing it on personals will make it more like an RPG.

What would people like more?

Whatever I do I'm not going to go for rules like you had before- which are more like a stocks game then a families game :p
