new patch is on its way: 1.0.1.275, released April, 28th

So will the patch be released before the DLC, so we can get the advantage of all these improvements to embarkation AI before having a civ that will live and die with successful amphibious assaults?

Considering that 2K PR and...management (?) in that are failed at every other point in the past, i think the DLC will probably come before the patch.

If you're going with the logic of patch = hint of what DLC is coming, then I vote Vikings. There's plenty of naval/embarked unit fixes in there, and well.. the zulu aren't known for their navy.

In retrospect, looking back, it seems like such an obvious pick. I mean there are a ton of fixes to embarkation and pillage AI. That should have screamed vikings.

it did :D

Okay so it's not strictly still today, but I do now I have an estimate of the patch release: This week! That's right, that means either today (Thursday) or tomorrow (Friday) so you'll be able to try it out over the weekend.

It's not 100% guaranteed as we're still doing a final pass of testing, but it's pretty darn likely.

I Bring you.. ETA!

The people who make DLC (artists for leaderheads and UUs) are not the people who write code for patches/games.
Buzzer sound on the Gong Show.
Wrong, as everything of that scale & magnitude this is a hugely collaborative teamwork that goes beyond intra-department calls & communicated needs between coders and creative staff.
QA flow as smooth as any decisions taken.
Skip even a single required component, you fail.
Ed Beach (etc) would soon fall ill to abusively high hours of struggle.

Uh, mostly right, but you're correct that he wasn't entirely right. The vast majority of work done by both departments are on independent tasks, but you are right that there is overlap in certain things. Certainly scenarios, UU, UB, UI, and UA coding, and maybe some graphical things do require programming collaboration. But, by this time, there's a system in place to add graphics to the game without specific coding work required.

Likewise, Q&A can make sure the graphics are working fairly routinely and focus on Q&Aing the other changes. They can even test the AI changes in the scenario to make sure both work.
