Hey, I finally got myself a new pc, a celeron 766mhz, 128mb ram yay! I'll be able to play civ3 now (my old machine was a p100
tongue.gif
PPP

In the meantime though, what games would you recommend i get whilst i wait for civ3 to come out?
smile.gif

Well, that kind of goes without saying. It'll be nice to see those end game turns zip past in half the time
smile.gif

Come on guys, you're not in the mood to suggest any good games? I'm dying out here
smile.gif

Ive heard from several reliable sources that Europa Universalis was very good.......I've even heard from a few that its better than civ.....I dont know about that though!

Just ask PaleHorse. I've just hotlined him Europa.
Btw, either you have relatives who have a lot of Intel shares, or you were hibernating for 4000 years now, or you bought a used PC. Have you ever heard about something called "duron" (in French we even call it "ducon"
biggrin.gif
private joke for French speakers). It's cheaper than Celeron and faster. That's impressive, btw. I'm still wondering how Intel could do such an exploit. Bad chips but expensive.
But in any case you would have bought crap, since PC don't run MacOS X...

Now back to your questions (in disorder, but nevertheless better avoid the last ones):
_ Civ 1
_ Warcraft 2, Starcraft, Diablo, ... all Blizzard
_ speed ball 2, xenon 2
_ settlers 1 and 2
_ seven kingdoms
_ 1602 Anno Domini
_ cossacks european wars
_ Imperialism
_ the 3 kingdoms, fate of the dragon
_ emperor battle for dune
_ age of empire saga
_ chicken run
_ desperados
_ double dragon and golden axe for dos

... (wait looking on my games list) ...
_ Tetris turbo
_ Deer Hunter, deer avenger
_ Barbie Fashion designer
_ gangster
_ virtual valerie 2
_ doom likes, if you are a moron
biggrin.gif
wink.gif

_ Civ "3"

Call to Pokemon 2. Oops sorry this was buggy virus. Not a game. Sincere apologises.

Anyway that was quite a short list of what you can try.

Virtual valerie huh genghis? See I knew everyone was wrong! Everyone said, "that Genghis, I bet he doesnt get any action at all" but I told em' I knew better and here's my proof! You know how to charm ladies with the flip of a keystroke! You big stud you

RTS: Go get HomeWorld. Don't bother with "HomeWorld: Cataclysm" though.

RPG: Half Life series. That game is so much FUN!

Others: Rogue Spear, SimCity 3000u, Alice...

I could list millions bud but:Imperialism 1&2,Sim City,and Quake

So far i'm getting Startopia, Unreal Tournament and Deus Ex (based on recommendations from friends)

I've also got my eye on homeworld, whats the difference between homeworld and homeworl: cataclysm?

Hey hey, Drake. Sorry I was too busy the past days to reply

Anyway, I've always been a man of action.

Nevertheless, it's true that I've not been really gifted in talking to women. They're quite different from my male friends, because when I talk about VV2, they all flee (the ladies I meant)
biggrin.gif

Naah, j/k. Actually I don't even own VV2. I saw it on an abandonware site so it logically popped in my mind when I made the game list.

Something else, BM, how can you call HL a RGP??? This is an insult to RPG-ers
tongue.gif
And I even laugh when people call Diablo and Finaly Fantasy a RPG. Naah. These softs may have some RPG features but they are not pure and genuine RPGs. Like Fallout. Or Dungeon Master/Eye of Beholder...

Ooops, PS: we can call HL a "shoot". A doom-like too
wink.gif
Ok since I've never played any doom-like, I can't say whether they are good games or not but at least you were right for Homeworld.
PS: this question may be redundant but does your nick Blue Monday come from a song? I found an eponym MP3...

For me, GengkisK, RPG is any game where you are playing a character (RPG=Role Playing Game). In HL you play Gordon Freeman and go on a little shootemup.

BTW, I should have asked earlier: What Video Card did you get with your new computer, sw99?

And in reponse to the your question about HW: To a newcomer to the HW series there is no real difference between the two (they are both same generation three dimensional RTS games). However, as a hardened veteran of both games I can tell you that I certainly prefer HomeWorld over HomeWorld: Cataclysm. HW:C lost many of the things that made HW a really great game.

It was an absolute disaster that they trashed the most dependable craft in the game: Corvettes. Plus they opted for SUs instead of generic unit capping which restricted battlefleets to four or five capital ships; unlike in HW where if you played your cards right you could command multiple battlefleets and up to about 200 ships (two hundred in HW - five in HW:C = big f***ing difference).

However, in order to compensate for smaller fleet sizes they added super ships that could do anything (big disaster). They had a fighter that would link up with other fighters to make a corvette class ship which was a pure disaster. As a fighter those ships were great but as corvettes they stunk up the joint. Then they added the Dreadnought class which was another disaster. With the SUs limit you could only build one or two and they were just too damn powerfull. They could take down anything and they totally unbalanced the game. Then on top of that they added the "Siege Cannon" which launched a fusion sphere up to 60 Kilometers into the enemy. Sure it was fun to watch an entire enemy corps vaporized by one shot from the cannon, but it unbalanced a poorly balanced game even further.

The only things about HW:C that I think were improvements were some features they added to controlling the game. You could play at 1/4 speed or 2x, or 4x, or 8x speed. Also you could command individual ships and groups from the zoomed out "sensors manager" mode. Those two things are pretty much the only good improvements that Barking Dog made to Relic's invention.

If you like RTS, then go get HomeWorld. It truly is one of the great RTS games of all time. It's challenging, addicting, and absorbing. It has great gameplay and a lot of things you've never seen in other RTS games. A few months ago I wrote a thread in the @all other games forum called "why HW is better than Starcraft," check that out for all the reasons I think that HW is far superior to it's Blizzard rival -however, some others here didn't seem to think so.

I got cable connection for internet yesterday. Finally the phone bills will get down.
smile.gif
It's faster too!

And I'm proud to say: 'Ich bin ein Civfanatics Official Reviewer!'

It's an ATI Rage graphics card at the moment. That will upgraded eventually though.

However, I got the machine yesterday, plugged it in, the hard drive and everything started wizzing away... but no post, no beep, no display. NOTHING!!!!!

A friend thinks the motherboard may be blown....
I'm contacting the company later today.

Any ideas anyone?

The game that I spend most time on besides Civilization II is Heroes of Might and Magic III. It is a very cool game. You should buy it.
