Is there a Discord channel to chat about VP? I kind of want to be able to ask stupid questions without cluttering up the forum..

Not sure if anyone started a discord, but we have a subreddit @ reddit.com/r/civvoxpopuli

Hey!

I just played a epic speed game on a large map with king difficulty.. after mid age, i was "8" research behind from the 1. AI even i used my scientist units for speed up research and stealing about 3 tech.. then an AI which is 6 research over me just attacked me, i did not wait to see the result..

I like to play hard but with this version, the balance is gone.. there is no happiness even i build everything and choose everything +happiness way even with cities with 15 population.

Step down a difficulty? King = Immortal (essentially) in VP.

I just want to confirm the really large amount of DoFs and a general lack of wars and small skirmishes. the kind that comes from territorial disputes and similar, "petty", stuff.
On a side note, Elizabeth can get away with A LOT of stuff: I farmed 10-15 tech from a neighbour (Ethiopia) before he attacked me (not very convincingly).

On a side node: managed to destroy a leading Brazil by lending 10 Irons to his neighbouring Shaka (who was 8-10 techs behind).

Fun times :)

PS: the effort poured into this masterpiece is outstanding. By far the best modern 4X playable today. Thank you guys

Maybe this has something to do with late balances for different paces. It was reported that the slower the pace, the easier for the human player that wage war on his neighbors. So now, all paces have a similar difficulty. Maybe you are more comfortable at standard prince, if you were comfortable at epic king. So now you need to drop your difficulty to prince.

See no shame on it. It's for a more relaxed play style.

that's highly dependent on proximity. most games that i had on relatively large continents had a very peaceful start until borders started colliding.

but what i can say is that currently, if borders collide, no one is to be trusted. DOF's after DOW's and denouncing everywhere among friend and foe. it's so strange i'd say it looks buggy.

Yeah i think i need to start with a lower difficulty.. i don't like to be the winner from the beginning, but i don't like huge differences too..

I must confess something. I cheated on VP this weekend, my faithful lover, who provided me so much happy times. Young, new girl came to neighborhood, I think I even met and dated her some time ago, but tried again and she agreed to go for a date. And boy, she indeed looks stunning with those shiny big new things. But then, the more time we spent together, the more I realised under this outstanding exterior, inside she is nothing but a dumb bimbo with no AI or balance whatsover.

Feels so nice that former lover took me back into her arms with another patch :)

very strange happening here.. Epic match,
Turn 745: Everyone has normal amounts of gold coming ~300
Attila is at 145 GPT
Turn 750: Attila has 800 GPT
Turn 755: Attila has 1500 GPT
Turn 760: Attila has 7000 GPT
Offers me 1300 GPT for no reason
Turn 770: shoshone win from culture victory randomly
Lol second part is funny, but the first part is def a bug.. just wish i knew how to recreate it. Autosaves rolled past point where it start..

Does that mean a video of uninstalling VP gets tagged as a bimboification fetish? :scan:

I know there have been some reports of strange AI diplomatic behavior, but just as a counter-anecdote: Using the 2-7-3 hotfixed version I have played a 12-Civ/Large Communitas map/Emperor/Epic game and did not notice anything unusual about the AI. I had Transparent Diplomacy turned on so I could see full modifiers, and despite a few feigned DoFs thrown in for crafty diplomatic trickery the AI was acting clever but rationally.

Some fun moments:
- With me playing as Zulu, Maya asking for DoF in one turn and then attempting to provoke me into a war a few turns later in hopes that I would backstab them so that they could get Aztecs and Brazil to ally with them against me. I backstabbed them anyway when Monte does what he does best and DoWs Brazil so he can rough them up and go for a Golden Age. With Aztecs and Brazil absorbed in a Flower War I DoW Maya and capture their capital without anyone turning to help them. I then offer to come support Brazil in their losing war against Aztecs. Brazil hates me because I backstabbed Maya, but they need the help so they pay me to DoW Monte. The war ends in a white peace which pisses Monte off (no Golden Age for him) and Brazil gives me a DoF for helping them.

- Once I researched Caravels I found that Denmark was the Big Dog on the other continent, having made vassals out of France and the Netherlands. I get over there just in time to see Korea voluntarily become the vassal of the Inca (the 2nd place Civ on that continent) and then ally with Sweden (the 3rd place Civ) to initiate a continent-spanning war against Denmark and his vassals. I've never seen Denmark do this well before, and it's cool to see the weaker AIs banding together to team up on the leader. Naturally, I wanted to build up a navy ASAP to help out and ingratiate myself to most of the Civs on the new continent, especially since they all magically know about my backstabbing of Maya (I guess rumors spread across deep oceans well before boats can).

This aspect of the game has always bothered me and is a reason why I like the new tribute mechanic for city-states - it makes far more sense, because knowledge of global power based on other players' army strength is not something anyone could know.

I’m considering a discord. Would there actually any interest though?
Why not? It's the popular place for gaming discourse right about now. Even JFD did it and I'm betting it would be welcoming for those casuals from places like r/civ that ask for more popular places to learn about the mod.
I'm sure some would love to hear the word of the Lord directly, too.

All that really matters is who you spend Valentine's Day with.
