I see. Were bananas buffed at least? I seem to recall that prior to jungle plantations bananas were pretty awful. Making the plantation wasn't really any better than just leaving the jungle+banana tile unimproved, and they prevented all other improvements.

The mechanic always seemed to be there was a trade-off with improving bananas- and leaving jungle or putting a plantation were equally viable options. that still seems to be the case, and i like that- i wouldnt want a clear winner one way or the other

A trade-off only works if there's equal investment. I would be fine with a jungle-preserving improvement vs a jungle-removing improvement. When one option takes several turns of a worker's time and a lot of tech though, it shouldn't be equivalent to something that requires no investment at all.

A banana with jungle provides zero bonus over a normal jungle tile now, you have to cut down the jungle to get that sweet sweet banana bonus.

Ah. That's...an odd way of handling considering no other resource functions that way, but I guess it works.
