New Xbox basically kills off used games

I have to say that I like looking at a collection of games cases too. For one thing, it's a lot easier to control impulse spending if you have to go into town to buy a game and, for another, having physical copies of unplayed games sitting there unloved is a much better control mechanism than a simple list stashed away somewhere on your computer.

I save money by buying books in charity stores, but I buy so many that it's probably a vice. :)

Also they take up room. My house is super efficient, compact and organized, and has nowhere to put game discs.

How many computers, monitors, mice, tablets, laptops, smartphones, skis, and frisbees do you have again? ;)

You have just one ski??

But I've got a snowboard, actually.

How many consoles and games do countries not on the list legally purchase anyway?

Didn't Paradox say they are welcoming the shift toward digital downloads so they can cut down on publishing and stocking costs?

That's very charming, region locking to such an extreme level you cant even own it in a non-supported country. They are going to get their clocks cleaned so bad this gaming generation.

I don't really see any way that happens, they're not going to maintain a course for the next decade that sees the PS4 outselling them two to one. The only thing that can't be changed in a matter of months (at most) is the hardware, which is what's sinking the Wii U.

Companies can get very egotistical and stubborn though, convinced that they can push through if they just can make the sell to the consumer. Plus, even if they do correct it, if they wait too long here the damage will already be done. The PS3 never was able to catch up after its poor launch.

Well seeing this discussion, I am going to use part of my post from another thread discussing MS in general. In the said thread I was discussing not only the X1 but also Windows 8 and the general direction of MS as a company. Not going to fully get into that here but I just thought I might as well post my thoughts on the X1 here.

As for the XBox One, this is another public relations disaster for Microsoft. Regardless of whatever great third party support MS might get for the X1 many gamers, myself included are going to be turned away by the fact the X1 basically has DRM, blocks used games and not to mention the Kinect camera spy device which is just paranoia fuel. I would not have a problem with the Kinect features if they were not required to be plugged in. If it was optional this would not be an issue. I am somewhat paranoid and that is why I hate this feature being required. All of the things are listed are potential deal breakers, but combined, kills any interest I have in owning an XBox One. Not to mention there is the required installs, no upgradeable HD and the fact the X1 only has 500GB on its hard drive. That might work for casual gamers but not for hardcore gamers.

Yea if you are requiring every game to be installed 500 GB does seem a bit low, games are only going to keep growing in size.

You never fully get into it, you just ignore all the salient points anyone makes.

Expected.

the Kinect camera spy device.

No.

Good thing you can turn it off.

As a developer, I don't want people running my games off low-performance media. If they're going to do that, they might as well just play the 360 version.

no upgradeable HD

You can install games on USB 3 external drives.

500 doesn't seem that bad. My laptop is only 450 GB and I have some massive files on it (often in duplicate because I'm too lazy to clean out my temp folder) and I still have over 60 GB left.
It is likely that Microsoft will release an Xbox 1.5 which has more storage space but 500 GB doesn't seem that bad as long as saves are stored independently of the game.

They're basically omitting Asia for launch - hence my speculation about supply issues and the high price to match up demand.

Well, the Xbox 360 didn't exactly sell well in Japan, but yeah they are. Apparently they will start selling Xbox One in Asia next year though.
