News: SGOTM 11 - Results and Congratulations

Yeah, I can't believe that jacktard on our team accidentally ran a double golden age at the end. We should have booted him long ago.;)

Was this the result of the (obvious) Beyond the Sword bug that when a Golden Age is requested, checks whether are enough Great People for a second Golden Age and starts the second Golden Age without Player confirmation?

If so, it violates the Principle of Least Astonishment.

An believably badly timed way of learning about this bug. My condolences to jacktard and his Team.

I looked into, and fixed the bug that placed Phoenix Rising out of sequence in the final results. When I did so, I found a more serious error on my part, in that the Apostrophe team were actually the lowest scoring finishers, not Maple Sporks, by a narrow margin of a few hundred points

So the second set of Wooden Spoons have moved to their rightful owners.

I can only offer my most humble apologies to all concerned. I'll edit the first post to correct the error there as well.

VICTORY is ours, so it looks like us squeezing every last artist out and making an all-or-nothing dash for the culture victory paid off!!!!

We left absolutely nothing in the tank. We only DoW'ed Toku very late to stop people from invading us.

What happened to the most vile barbarians?

We of the dwarven team had the idea that there were going to be Modern Armours there

Also

YEAH WOODEN SPOONS!

Hehe Lymond wasn't to know. You are more than welcome back to team next game. We need people like you to give other teams hope.:lol:

I think we deserved the wooden spoon really for posting such a late diplomatic win. I don't think we would of beat the 1690 culture date. Perhaps a bit more planning for the next game. :)

When is SGOTM 12 planned?

So it seems that I, Lymond AKA Jacktard, ran a golden age with 2 "stacked" GPs, which set off a double Golden Age as there existed the requisite amount of GPs spread across the Empire. I agree with STW that a simple prompt here would be best or simply only allow the start of 1 GA at a time regardless of what is selected. Indeed a design flaw.

Very educational read and I now know much more about the one-legged stool than I ever had before. I'm a much better person for this

Of course, if not for this design flaw, PR would not have won the glorious Wooden Spoon :goodjob:

Admit it Lymond you sabotaged us to make other teams look good as you wanted that Wooden Spoon.

I had an idea about the next game. Do you think we should have a plan before we start. ;)

They do say the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. There is only so much planning you can ever do. We have our golden age master for that.

Perfect (operational) strategies work flawless until first contact with the enemy.

For (at least) some Teams, we'll have to revise the above to say:

Perfect (operational) strategies work flawless until first contact with BtS bugs.

One for the BTS quote archives. hehe Our first contact with Toku was 4 axes and about 6 catapults. What a nice guy!!!

I am sure Lymond will welcome that advice. :)

Congratulations to One Short Straw for the silver medal! Was glad to play with you.

Spoiler :
My plan worked: leaving allowed the team to cruise toward silver medal!

Cheers,
