[RD] News Thread of the Americas

No, it doesn't work like that. In fact, the description of the US as policeman of the world is rather apt, as police are always catching up with events and spend half the time pretending they meant for what actually happened to happen.

my country has at least avoided the School of Americas thing . Every single mishap in the "not-Western enough world" thing ends up with a bank account in the West and whatnot . Are you going to suggest any of your politicians exist outside of US protection and timely ignorance that barbarians like me are unjustified in finding the seriously long arm and hand of Uncle Sam daily pilfering your wallet ?

It's interesting that you mention how every mishap here in the periphery seems linked to a bank account in the West. One of the (grimly) funniest things about Cuba's situation is how the country basically lives off remittances from Cuban exiles and those are paid through Western banks (who profit) into the personal accounts of Cuban officials (who profit, and also their non-Cuban banks profit) in exchange for the exiled Cubans' relatives not starving. Everybody (except the Cuban people) can profit.

Also, the US Republicans actually need the Castroist system to continue in place so that umpteenth-generation Cuban exiles win them Florida over and over. A hostage situation within another situation. Roland Barthes would be proud.

As of right now, Cuba is undergoing another blackout.

Meanwhile, another political prisoner arrested in 2021, Manuel de Jesús Guillén Esplugas, dies in prison and the guards claim it was suicide. Guards actually overdid it with the torture and beat him to death.

am sitting in the command chair of 1701 , enjoying my coffee . Turkish coffee naturally . Then . We fall into a wormhole . You never know what will happen when you are in one . Not truly bad ... We just end up some decades back in time .

first , because being human is to err and am really such a nice and forgiving guy , the navigator gets 50 pushups in the gym dialled upto 4G . Then , remembering some documentary ı had watched in the 90s , ı go to the place in Havana . Trust me , they will let me in ...

ı say: Fidel , you are opening a Club Med on the island . Where overly muscled guys will end up in bed with French tourist women . Are you a p.mp ? Instead ı will start a fusion plant for energy and consumer electronics for export . But to export , you will have to be more agreeable .

no , they will agree . Right away . One thinks they didn't try ? Multiple variations of that ? Actually do people think Fidel and Raoul and all the big names failed to understand Eisenhower had let them ? To weaken the Mafia following its eagerness to support the Mc Carthy things , a nightmare scenario for Ike ... That they didn't know JFK and Khruschev quickly agreed to use the Cuban Revolutionary fervour as a battering ram against the remaining Colonial outposts of Europe in Africa ? That both Che and Fidel knew that and Che still left for Bolivia comdemning himself to death is a Red BS for one's tastes ?

yeah , ı have landed , doing stuff . What does America do about that ? Among other things , tries to nuke me . ı turn a couple of SAC bases into glass . What does America do then ? It nukes itself ... Like anyone thinks that wouldn't happen ? They were testing nukes over ground until 1963 ... They will happily blow up Florida to cause fallout if the winds are favourable ...

capitalism in its current form is a series economic crimes against the world in whatever form one would like to consider . It DOES go against the law . Which in the end is a scary thing . Criminals need backup . Which at the end of the day is US . No nothing can dare face . Ideological preparation for that being the US is safe behind two oceans . They can attack anyone . No one can attack them . They do not need to be weak , not at all ... by considering things about following rules everybody else follows . Starting from the Monroe Doctrine of 1823 , which is the true beginning of the Anglosaxon thing where the North Americans are tasked as a ready British reserve as a limited number of British troops destroy the Spanish imperial presence in Americas . This is the thing about not daring to fight America . All of them , those traitors who have committed to commit crimes to rob their country just drop dead out of astonishment if you ever face Americans . Yes , they are cosplaying , tough talking , even doing their thing in American opposing . If asked , they are reformers , totally honestly honest men and women .

the top fascist of my country was sent for education to Americas after the 1980 coup . Some instructors were Argentinians . Who were the top of the line at the time , seeking a new drug distribution line for Europe . More fascists were prepared for service with a little thing planned as a passing rite . Our fascists were found flabby and soft by your fascists . It withered . The next year , Americans decided to sell out yours .

it is not just Thatcher was doing badly in the polls . Power had to be proven as the Evangelist lot had cleared lsrael for expansion . Out of machismo , your fascists would follow general orders to fail but would eagerly look at chances to get their personal score up . All those British ships sunk ? There would have been more , but School of Americas ensured the latest export batch of bomb fuses (some directly arriving from the UK in wartime) were properly distributed . Only one submarine could be said to be operational , ready for combat ... Every torpedo it fired missed . Turned out there was sabotage , discovered only when the submarine returned after the end of the war . The technician who found it ? Dead within days . "They" do not consider "you" an equal . You are better than this sentence implies ... now that "they" want "us" dead ...

the thread about the murdered CEO where it is argued the rich needs an existantial threat to behave ? That's Ortega , whom ı remember as a person you are not a fan of . Supposedly there were 3 battlefields the Soviets and the West were locked in mortal combat , to ease stuff to prevent WW lll . Afghanistan ended with a Russian withdrawal , bands and the little girls with the flowers to meet the last troops . Angola was very much Ukraine , great news of failure over failure of the Reds . American South self satisfying itself of how the Whites conducted and they might have done the same if they had ever had a chance to invade Mexico . And of course basically the dumbest jet MiG ever , the Flogger , totally dominating whenever it could make it to the front . South Africans finally saved by the bell . It still cost them the Apartheid and the nukes . And Nicaragua , where the American failure could not be easily covered up . Americans will claim 2-1 , history suggests 0-1 and it is more like 0-2,5 . 2 of them by Fidel and the lot , who would do better if they had more supplies and the like . ı will not regime change in Cuba . Do you know the things that will happen to me if ı try ?

as an "American" for living on the South continent , your life would have been rather more miserable without Castro and Ortega . Yes , they do poorly in peace . How's Argentina doing with being in peace since '82 ? Yes , mine would outdo yours in an heartbeat , if the West did not need New Turkey for the invasion of Iran .

venezuela ? Oh . Where the Bay of Pigs was a rubber boat with two or three guys . Evil in the world is left unmolested if it suits the West ... Failed states of Leftist leanings serve American interests . Try moving them out failure zone and it gets extremely interesting and volatile . How many Americans and Cubans must die to fix the electricity ? Because they will really die .

it is consistently refused to discuss the airgroup of the New Turkey carrier . The Spaniards are super friendly to Arabs and thus get all the contracts they ever want and so now are designing a ship we have no need of ever . It is supposedly to exercise in the Atlantic as a defender of the Muslim world . Irritating the Moroccans everytime it passes that they should bow lower , too . The 6th generation after the F-24G is naturally carrier capable , considering its origins , but like hell if it is ever needed for the escort of the drug convoy from Caracas . A poor or perhaps a very rich imitation of the Spanish treasure fleets in galleons .

but , in the end this will only lead us to circles . So ... Who is your favourite politician ? From Rio Grande downwards . Uncorrupted . Or at least steals reasonably . Performs at least adequately . And would be expected to stand upto Elon Musk if need be ... That you would personally defend him/her in off-topic , not just against Commies but all these Americans and stuff ?

Argentina's Brazilian-administered embassy continues under siege; meanwhile, Brazil's president da Silva has had to undergo an emergency operation to drain an intracraneal bleeding and won't be returning to the capital until next week(end).

^The abovementioned siege goes on, but now Venezuela's actually kidnapped an Argentinian border guard who entered the country while on official leave to visit his wife's family. The man just went missing for several days and now Maduro's people admit that they're holding him (hostage?) at the Helicoide torture centre.

They have also kidnapped two Colombian border guards at a border crossing.

In all cases they allege espionage on the part of the victims.

just as a note for history , Argentina apparently claims no deficit in Goverment budget for the first time in 123 years , inspiring the coming Administration in the US to take notice . This is no doubt achieved by the singular method of not using the money at all , so that more people can suffer .

So… Nicaragua's officially banned Christmas from being celebrated, all because the Catholic Church refuses to back the official line that the government has God's favour.

We have to choose between having the government spending money on actively making people's lives worse OR not spending money and leaving us to our own devices.

sure enough it was copied in New Turkey by not paying assistant teachers or whatever .

more people will suffer in the end . Left to own devices simply means you are being officially abandoned to biggest baddest whatnot .

Meanwhile, Maduro is about to appoint himself democractically self-elected president of Venezuela again and he's offered a 100,000-dollar reward for the capture of his latest ‘defeated’ opponent from the last elections.
Said opponent, Edmundo González Urrutia, is in Argentina being hailed as president-elect.

Justin Trudeau stepping down reminded me that Prime Ministers don't have term limits... they just serve until their party loses the majority or they get otherwise forced out... by political pressure, a no-confidence vote, snap election, or otherwise.
We usually get bored of them by the end of their 2nd term, or around 10 years, or they get bored and retire, like Chretien.

Same here... "term limits" just codified the boredom. We're too lazy, apathetic, and uninformed in this country to be bothered with snap elections and all that, so we just made it a rule that they have to leave by around the same time we'd usually be bored with them anyway.

The latter choice seems preferrable to me.
In 2023 the Argentinian electorate agreed with you. This year we have midterm elections in which 1/3 of the Senate and 1/2 of the Lower House shall be renewed.

Is this a good or a bad thing?

Well, that was copied from terms of office that come from the Mediterranean republics 2500 years ago.

You tell me...

Meh... those "Mediterranean republics" term limits were spicier... one or two years IIRC. No moss growing on those rolling stones... lots more fun and way less boring... with 65% more bribes, murder, kidnapping, hostage-taking, assassination, backstabbing and overall skullduggery. :backstab:

I love ostracism. And, separately, the number of times Athens summoned back someone they had previously ostracized.

The Chavist regime has decided to improve on its previous efforts. They've kidnapped González Urrutia's son-in-law. Whether the latter will actually enter Venezuela on the 10th remains to be seen.

Massive demonstrations in Venezuela today, ahead of tomorrow's Big Day™.

Opposition leader and banned presidential candidate Corina Machado came out of hiding, led demonstrations, was kidnapped, then released again.

Today, the first day of the ‘new’ government, the regime in Venezuela has finally decided to not bother with trumping up charges and instead institute ‘political crimes’.

Sentences of up to 30 years' imprisonment and/or disqualification from holding public office will now be imposed in absentia and also for ‘indirect participation’ in politically undesirable events.
