There is no prophesised war. If you take any text, and i mean any text at all, from the writings of an 8 year old to high literature, to anything else, and you want to view it as having an allegorical meaning about a future war you indeed can do that. However it would not be based on a reality.

Major war doesn't mean a world war. By this term I simply mean a war between states, a true war.
I don't think a war between great power is likely in the near future. Iran is probably the next target of the West.
What bothers me is, that if Iran cuts off the oil supplies by closing of the Persian Gulf, the balance of power will be severely shaken.

That's unlikely. The war wouldn't be so bad for the US because they could lose it, but because they'd have to mobilise their resources. Simply put, they'd be tied there.

It can, but it would require fascist-like measures such as draft, war-time economy, even higher military expenditures etc.
The USA is capable of conquering 3 more countries, but it would have to play it harder (forget collateral damage) and it would have to put a strain on it's economic future which it won't do.
Even France can conquer a land or 2 if they'd really be willing to sacrifice a lot of butter for it's guns.

Oh, come on. Do you really belive on this statistics ? I have read that every day in Iraq, about 500 americans die.
And i don't say that Iran will invade USA, i say that it will be VERY hard for the americans to ocupie Iran. These days, the Iranians made a 9 million live chain on the border, to protect their nuclear program.
