<Works Supervisor Baldur Pórsson> I hope your okay with this being recorded for archives, as it is technically an official consultation.
<Representative James Chulalongkorn> Yes, yes thats fine, though I hope we keep it in Standard English; my Norsk.Technical is rather lacking, and I assume some rather in-depth things will be discussed here.
<WSBP> that is true, Ill get some archivists to go over it later. I trust your journey here was adequately comfortable?
<RJC> Yes it was rather smooth, you people certainly choose the scenic route to lay the piste down on. Crossing the Five Runnels was a particular treat, I hadnt seen it for a few decades
not since the Strike, eh?
<WSBP> Its our people now Representative, the Amalgamation and Settlement Agreements are supported by everyone. Its hoped we can put the Strike behind us.
<RJC> Oh yes? The cluster has been most generous in their terms, but the event still remains. But lets not press those wounds; I understand you have things to ask me
<WSBP> The Corrigan records indicate you were highly placed in several of their projects before you entered the management and politics, cross checking indicates you are currently the foremost expert on large scale general Terraforming and hydrosphere management this side of Kalia.
<RJC> you flatter me, but go on.
<WSBP> I have been placed in charge of a number of projects where your expertise may come in useful. I assume you heard the announcements about the Orion Line scheme?
<RJC> I do take my duties seriously you know, I tune in to every meeting of the executive board my constituents would have my head otherwise!
<WSBP> Good, well I have been put in charge of construction in the western hemisphere of Bellatrix 3F, which will open for settlement and development in the coming year. As you know we still have been unable to get ecosystems of the large scale space habitats operational, and therefore the decision has been made to locate the majority of life support systems and personnel planetside. Do you know much about Bella 3F?
<RJC> not as such no
<WSBP> Well its the sixth moon of the main Jovian planet in the system, far enough away to not be tidal locked and big enough for 0.64g and an atmosphere. Mainly slush and rock of course and its far enough away from Bellatrix to not get much in the way of sunlight. Consequently over two thirds of the surface is ice bound, with a few slushy seas and glades in the equatorial regions. Terraforming work done in the 2500s gave it a small base of cold adapted plant life and a thin but breathable atmosphere around the equator. Ill just bring it up on the display, this is the western hemisphere were looking at right now.
<RJC> Desolate looking place isnt it? I normally prefer working on worlds where palm trees are at least and option [chuckle]. The green dots are proposed settlements I assume?
<WSBP> yes, we plan on setting up a series of small arcologies next to small spaceports the permafrost and environment wouldnt take a big commercial space port so well construct the main shipyards in orbit right from the get go. We are also planning on setting up a few fusion lanterns in Bellatrix 3s atmosphere and set up a few mirrors to redirect sunlight.
<RJC> You Norsk and your big industrial complex [laughs], if I may criticize somewhat?
<WSBP> of course, thats why we asked you here.
<RJC> firstly you should give up on settlements 2 and 3, as the world heats up from occupation those oceans will swell, and the collapse of that big ice sheet to the north will produce some big tidal waves, eh. Second Id give up any plans on increasing heat in the system that deep permafrost will simply turn to mile-deep goo. You need to start with an ecopoesis model of maximal plant growth to stabilize the upper surface, maybe with some more light in the system, maybe not. Then you move onto big heating and atmo cracking out of the icecaps.
<WSBP> and that is why I would like to other you a position on my staff.
<RJC> unfortunately I must decline, I have duties to the constituency you represent.
<WSBP> and arent you fulfilling them? By joining my staff well be much more appraised of Corrigan resources and experience, I image many of the construction components will be built in New Constantinople itself. Youll be bringing money and resources to your constituents, and as a consultant youll still be able to help your people.
<RJC> [claps] very slick, youve convinced me. Now back to the plans, I would actually suggest placing most of the settlements on that river plain that 7, 8 and 9 are on, the wash will have removed the least stable upper layer, and the hydration will make it easy to plant forests
