No good comes of calling the cops

I say this all the time; that there is no situation so bad that calling the cops won't make it worse.

Today in LA a guy flagged down a passing patrol car, apparently thinking he needed some sort of help. So the LAPD shot him in the head. That made things much better.

I wouldn't goto that extreme but I do tend to think people who call the cops over tiny things are pathetic.

The worst is couples who call the cops on each other. Unless you're getting physically beaten work it out amongst yourselves.

I've never called the police for anything. I've just spent the last 10 minutes thinking of a situation in which I would. How about for a lost child?

Still, in the US, maybe not. Unless I really didn't like the lost child. I don't like children all that much, it has to be said, but I've not met many who would be improved by having a bullet in their skulls.

You're right, no good ever does come from calling the cops. Especially when some anti-cop terrorist calls the police and then murders the officer that responds. You know, like what happened in my hometown of Cincinnati today. Thankfully, another officer showed up and killed that piece of human garbage as well.

It's no good, you know. The only real solution is segregation. All members of police forces should be obliged to live in their own country (and leave the rest of us in peace): the "Police State", let's call it.

I jest. I jest.

Well, mostly I jest.

I really hope we can replace cops with robots soon.

What makes you think robots would be treated any differently? They are expensive and would likely unionize to protect themselves from being held accountable.

What I love is how the cops invariably handcuff the perp, even if he is suffering from a massive head wound and is clearly in need of immediate medical assistance. Then they stand around wondering what to do next, as they contemplate their plausible excuses when they find no gun.

Well that's why you make them like the law enforcement robots in the movie Elysium. Not truly self-aware or sapient, but intelligent enough to follow their law enforcement programming.

Plus with robots, police departments absolve themselves of any responsibility for any errors the robot makes since they can just blame it on a malfunction and classify any excessive force incidents as "industrial accidents".

This is pure gold. Platinum even. :goodjob:

At the time it was the eleven o'clock news. I'm sure Google can find something though. That's what we pay them for.
Generally the OP is expected to provide a link, but here you go.

The victim is an unidentified Hispanic man in his 40s. Still alive for now, in critical condition. Apparently he was armed with a towel. Those can hurt as I remember from phys ed.

edit: somehow I missed that Forma had already posted the article.

Where are the "if you just follow orders you will be fine" crowd? It was a justified shooting. They told him to drop a gun, he didn't drop one. Not actually having one to drop is of course no excuse.

Eh, its something Triewd claimed people were doing in another thread. I thought I'd include it here as a form of obvious hyperbole but I think I got Poe'd.

Sorry.

I actually think curbing the blue menace might be a good step on the path to healing racism, by the way. If we can get enough people to recognize that police exceeding their authority is a problem, not a racial issue.

I certainly think it is about time we tore down this "white society" mentality: Trayvon Martin, Cleveland, Ferguson, Baltimore, and now Charleston twice in about two months.

It is simply not safe in our society if your skin color is even as dark as Michael Jackson.

Not that it is much, if any, safer for Hispanics armed with a towel. Of course, he should know better than to have his arm in any direction which was even close to remotely pointing at the cops.

If whites were in danger of being shot by cops and other gun-carrying members of society this easily, this recurring national problem would have been fixed long ago. Being a cop is clearly a dangerous job. But that certainly doesn't give them the right to shoot first and think about their hysterical reactions later, merely because the person has skin that is darker than their own. If they don't want to risk getting shot on an extremely rare basis, pick a different job.
