North Atlantic Archipelago Mod/Scenario Underway

Questions about city lists and number of starting cities

1. How many starting cities should each civ have? I was thinking of giving most 3/4 and some of the smaller civs 2/3 (life is unfair after all). No one will get a starting settler or worker unit and I might move the building of settlers to the urbanisation tech. I'll post a version of the bix with cities placed on the map soon. It will also inlcude the Faroe Islands and Walruses (what's the plural of Walrus?). :)

2. What should be the "capital" of Denmark now that there's no Zealand (only Jutland) to include their historic capital (Roskilde)? I have a number of candidates but I'm not sure which to pick: Aggersborg? Viborg? Ribe? Alborg? Jelling? Hedeby?

3 or 4 cities will allow you to map the basic shape of each kingdom. You should give Denmark Dublin (with a forbidden palace) and a strong settlement in northern England to push them into invading.
The settler/urbanisation tec idea sounds good.

Ps. Have you seen this unit? Its an elf worker, but he just looks like a northern euro worker. You could use him maybe for some of the civs, that way you'll be able to see your slaves running around your territory and it would actually make the people in rival kingdoms look different on the map. Just an idea.

I don't know about giving Denmark Dublin. My plan is to start things circa 600AD and the tech tree is designed such that the Norse civs won't have longboats from the start so they have no way to get to Ireland. My one hope is that someone uses my scenario as the basis for a really good viking kingdoms scenario (hint, hint ;) )

About the worker, he's none too shabby, I could use him for Denmark, Norway and some Anglo Saxons.

Current status: Retweaked the map to fix an anomoly with the SW coast of Denmark and at the same redid the north of Denmark. Distributed most of the resources on the map. Started placing the starting cities on the map. I'll post a bix in the next day or so.

Perhaps they would but it's not a scenario about viking invasion even tho' the vikings may indeed invade it's more open ended than that. If I start placing viking settlements in Ireland, France and Britain it will ruin my timeline and I'll have to redo the tech tree.

What do you think about these alternatives? Some are scope limiting like viking invasion and some don't have a direct relevance to all of the civs in the game.

The Dark Fringes of Europe
The Darkest Fringe of Europe
Dark Age Battle of Britain
The Ruin and Conquest of Britain
After the Romans Left
Twighlight of the Celtic Golden Age

p.s. I've added the starting cities for all civs and also added Mide/Meath giving them Kells and Tara.

Maybe if you named the scenerio/mod 'Viking Invasion', some people might find it sounds more interesting.

The current title probably is a bit off putting.

I have placed cities for the region of modern Scotland and given Carlisle its Brythonic name. All cities places have their ancient names (1ts recorded), except Mull "Eillean Muileach", which has a modern Gaelic name. Ptolemty calls the island Maleos; Craig Phradraig is the other one with its modern name. This place is an ancient Pictish hillfort next to Inverness.

Some notes:

Fothuir-tabaicht is the ancient name for "Forteviot", the known Pictish captial. Craig Phradraig was almost certainly the capital of the northern Picts. (See Alfred P Smyth, Warlords and Holymen, p103-104)

Sgoinde - ancient name for Scone
Chilrimunt - ancient name for St Andrews, the Delphi of Pictland.

Super work calcagus, not just for the city placements but for giving me more city names for yon Pictland, Strathclyde, Lothian and Scotland. Many thanks.

I've established all of the dark age techs and units in the game and I'm now playtesting this era. Here's a screenshot to show you what's going on. As you can see from the Leader of the Lady Boys of Kent I need more leaderheads -hopefully pdescobar will come up with goods.

Here's a sneaky peek of the in game tech tree of the Dark Ages. As you can see I've yet to connect the boxes with arrows. My problem being a lack of skill and proper software - can anyone help?
Speaking of the art side I need some large and small icons for the great wonders so I don't get things like Pyramids on the tech tree. Would anyone be willing to do this for me? I need images for :
WONDERS
The Round Table
The Stone of Destiny
Offa's Dyke
The Book of Kells
Pagan Conversion
Lief Ericcson's Voyages (probably just use a longboat for this)
The Y'Gododdin Poem
Historia Britonnum
TECHS
Monasticism

In fact I've got images for the book of kells and monasticism already - just need someone to resize them and save them with the correct pallete. I tried it myself already but had palette issues (don't know if anyone knows how to do it in MS Photo Editor - that's all I've got).

ps. there's a slight error on the tech tree as High Kingship should be mandatory and mercenaries non mandatory for advancement to the next era.

I can probably help you with the tech tree and some building graphics, if you get me the original pics. I don't want to hunt the net for pics, but I can convert stuff for you. I hope your not in too much of a hurry though, as I'm also involved in a certain project, which I've signed a "Of course I wont tell. Honestly! Cross my dye and hope to heart!"-thingy for. :D

thanks mrtn. I'm in no great hurry (still playtesting and adding middle ages) and wouldn't want to take you away from your secret project. ;) If you could convert these images that would be great and it would be a real bonus if you could create the arrows for the tech tree.

Just d/l v1.27 of the patch this minute (it's why I'm up so late- damn pesky 56k modem).

You posted something about Leif Eriksson; you should spell it like that, not with 2(!) c:s.
But, I'm not only here to nitpick, I'm here to sing a song.
I made a detail from the book of kell too, you choose which you like the most.

If you don't like the "squashed" monk I can make a pic from just a part of it.
The bloody uploads thingy didn't upload my pic, so I have to make this in two posts.

All the leaderheads have been completed and posted in the Graphics Modpack thread. If there are any problems with any of them, please let me know, preferably via PM. Enjoy and good luck with the scenario. :)

I like, I like. thanks mrtn.
