North Atlantic Archipelago Mod/Scenario Underway

Are you still working on this KingArthur?

I sure am although I've been doing some historical background reading (and playing CM4 which is a habit I need to break). I've decided to redo the unit progression -so now each culture group (and even individual civs) have their own set of flavour units. For example,
Anglo Saxons have:
Raiders, Fyrdmen, Huscarls, Longbowmen, Men-at-Arms/Sergeants, Knights

Franks have
Raiders, Paladins, Crossbowmen, Medieval Infantry, Chevaliers

Irish civs have
Fianna/Rovers, Kern, Noble Horsemen, Gallowglass

Vikings have
Reivers, Berserkers, Viking Carl, Ulfhednar, Jomsvikings

Scots have:
Rovers, Clan Warriors, Highlanders, Ettrick Archers

Picts have:
Early Crossbowmen, Painted Warriors, Highland Cavalry

This is not a complete list as I'm not at home right now but it should give the general picture. The units I'm really struggling to come up with are the British ones. So far I have given them Javelins and Light Cavalry but can't come up with any unique ones except Lothian gets Gododdin Host (Light cavalry). Any ideas?

Kryton is the man to ask, hes well clued up on history and comes from England.
You should PM him, I'm sure he could help you with a lot of historical info on a lot of things.

PS. Do you need any more leaderhead graphics? If you do post a list here and I'll try to get started on them.

I sure do gael. Brace yourself tho'.

I need:
Harald Finehair for Norway;
Hengist for Kent ;
King Penda for Mercia;
a leader for Mide (not sure who this guy is yet -Conaire Mor?);
King Redbad of Frisia (Friesland);
a King for the Jutes of Jutland to counter the Danes.

But that's all really it is.
:)

davieg663.

I have made a little progress but no one has really been pushing me (until now that is ;) ). I added 3 new tribes: Frisians, Jutes and Dyfed. During play-testing I found I had to move a couple of the techs around but I've mostly finished with the first age (dark-ages). I was waiting for a couple of units to become available too but I have adequate placeholders for them.

I just got Conquests today and was thinking of converting the scenario to it. Thanks for the prod - I'll get going on it again and promise to post something soon.

Cheers

Me too!! This sounds like an incredible scenario to look forward to... I'm sure it'll be a lot better than many of the ones that came with C3C (at least that's what it seems)

Thanks for your support jorde. Actually, I need your help (and everyone else who has posted on this thread). I'm going to post my work so far and would like people to playtest it and give feedback. Look out for a posting tomorrow.

Cheers

KingArthur, have you added Longbowmen to the British unit list? Since the longbow was developed by the Welsh it would seem that the British should have it instead of or in addition to the Anglo-Saxons.http://www.archers.org/longbow.htm
See about one page down under "Origins..."
I was amused at this part...
"One account recalls a knight being pinned to his horse by an arrow that passed through both armored thighs, with the horse and saddle between!
Modern tests have verified that this was indeed possible."

One wonders what fool agreed to be the subject of this test!:)

Ok, no prob with that... actually, it'd be a good thing to be helpful for something here... I could even try to do some artwork if you need it (I've never done that, but I could give it a try :P):crazyeye:

Yup Welsh Bowmen are in the scenario. Here's there civopedia entry:

^
^
^Welsh Bowmen are pioneers and expert proponents of the Long bow in the early Medieval era.
At this time the Welsh are expert guerilla fighters and their bowmen are able to perform hit and run operations on enemy units within their $LINK<zone of control=GCON_ZOC>.

In June 1402, Henry IV of England sent an army of 8000 men into Wales, a substantial force in those days to put down the Welsh rebellion led by Owain Glyn Dwyr.
Owain now in secure command of much of south and central Wales, quickly gathered his own forces to check the English invasion. On 22 June the two forces collided
on a Welsh hillside named Bryn Glas, in mid-Wales just inside the border near Pilleth.
^
^At this battle Glyn Dwr’s smaller force unleased its national secret weapon, the Welsh longbow. Properly deployed by trained men, the longbow could be a devastating
weapon. Shooting 37-inch long clothyard arrows tipped with a specially designed bodkin point, the longbow could generate enough force to pierce a knight’s armor.
With their arrows handily stuck into the ground in front of them (a practice that incidentially guaranteed a nasty bacterial infection to those wounded by them),
the bowmen could wreak fearsome damage on an attacking force before the knights on their heavy warhorses could close in on them.
^
^Not understanding what they were up against, the English knights blundered into an uphill charge against the Welsh, and were slaughtered. Things were made even worse
when in the midst of the battle a contingent of Welsh bowmen conscripted to serve with England suddenly switched sides and sent volleys of arrows into the backs of
the advancing English. An appallingly bloody battle by medieval standards, Bryn Glas would be the most lopsided victory won by the Welsh in the course of the war.
(Bones from the mass graves on the battlefield were still being plowed up in the 1800s.)

Here's a quick download of the biq file and resources.pcx. You won't be able to play the game with this but you can at least examine the biq in the editor.

"Quick" downloads are on the next two posts.

Full download later once I get the ok from Thunderfall (it's a 28MB file).
:)

here's the file with resource.pcx and unit.pcx

important info: you will need the file on the next post as well as this one.

and here's the biq file itself

apologies I made the mistake of giving both the same file name so save this one under a different name

Your still working on this?

I thought you'd given up. Sorry about not getting back on those leaderheads. I don't have poser anymore, although if your making it for conquests you've got some good looking euro heads in there.

I think they have a new patch coming out thats going to fix a load of stuff with the coruption and all the rest, so i'd wait for that as everyone will upgrade to it.

Are you going to use this boy? He would be good for an invisable unit in the modern ages for sneaking in there and distroying infrastructure etc without declaring war. You could call him 'Paramilitary soldier' or something like that.
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46135

I've had a look at the .biq, its looks good, although I think some of the cities are two cramed, especally around capitals.
Maybe my eyes decieve me, but do the picts and french have dinosaurs? The english are starting off with fighter planes too.

Anyways, I'm really looking foward to this. Keep us updated.

I dont remember if I have postet in this thread, but if I havent then i just want to say im looking forward to play this:goodjob:

About Denmark: You shouldn't have civs called Jutland and Denmark, as the Jutes actually was the first to be called Danes. Also Padborg is wrong placed and Esbjerg was first founded in 1850 or so. You should add Ribe a few sqaures SE of Esbjerg.
