It seems like rather a longshot, but would a "more "natural" scene" in the write-up be obliquely referring to either our Banana Plantation Owner or Wheat Farmer. Either way the circus has had heavy casualties, so perhaps we should examine the town.

The increase in the death rate had riled up the town even more than the circus despite the circus taking the brunt of it. There were rumors of sadism with respect to the tight-rope walker, and if he didn't walk a very fine line in the afternoon, he was liable to find a rope around his neck. Meanwhile, although there hadn't been much discussion, the general consensus seemed to be that the Seamstress was a worthy heir to the boa.
