NukaNESIOT: Superpowers

*shakes fist in the general direction of Berlin/Paris/Prague/Bruges*

The daylight contrasts with the darkness of last season's events on that night. The Kremlin, overlooking the "Red" Square as it always had was now home to a new Russian government. This day was quite the change of pace.

Below, the "Red" Square was still occupied by the militia that established this new government - though the militia is now spread throughout the city for security reasons, a sizable number stand guard just in case. The square itself shows signs of what previous officials would call vandalism - however, the new regime calls it pure Russian artistic expression. The walls of buildings and the bases of statues were covered in graffiti from that night. Much of it has deteriorated - it's not like they were maintained and art has never been suited to survive the elements.

However, one piece stood out among them. On the Kremlin itself, on the wall to the right of the main entrance was a dramatic recreation of Natalia Goncharova's Cyclist with the bicycle replaced with a modern motorcycle and the background depicting an abstract cubist city-scape.

A few blocks away an apartment building stands. Daylight means the rooms are completely lit. The television is on - it appears the new government has made an exception on the electricity rationing.

The same image they always use is displayed. However, a thumbnail on the top right is new.

"My fellow Russians," A familiar soft voice fills the airwaves.
"Much has happened in the last season. This office came into being. We have pushed the Chinese out of Russian soil. We grow closer each day to re-stabilization of our nation and eventual revitalization of our economy." The voice pauses.
"I am speaking to you today to assure you that we will continue this progress into the next season. After speaking with the leadership of Japan, this office is overjoyed to announce that the Japanese have agreed to return Vladivostok to Russian government. With this, Russia has reclaimed all of its core territory since the beginning of this war. This is a true milestone, but we are not yet finished with the Chinese. Our men and women in uniform are preparing the first true offensive push into enemy territory.
And that is not all. With the pressures of war quickly receding from our heartlands, we formally promise to pay our debts in full before they are due in the coming Spring. This unprecedented amount of success can only be attributed to the increasing national unity in the face of foreign invasion and economic strife and instability." Another pause.

"With your continued support, we are poised to become a true world power again. Our movement is working but there is still much to be done. Thank you for your ears. The regular broadcast will continue at 1800. May you lead a productive day in our rapidly changing nation."

Wow time flies! Only 16 hours to go until the 2% stability deadline is here :)

Darkness and a silence greater than any faraday cage

The Faraday clubs were a relatively new occurrence, but their popularity was growing rapidly. I could step into one and suddenly my encephalon just shut down, no e-mails, no calls, no augmented reality visual overlays- just silence. It was probably the first time my senses weren’t being overwhelmed with overlays, pop-ups and blinking ‘mail waiting’ icons in years, maybe decades.

This one, “The Bird” was done up in a style over 110 years old. Inspired by Harlem’s Cotton Club, the ‘live’ band played an eclectic mix of original big brass jazz and nouveau trance-tribal-jazz. There was real wood, real brass, real people, real spirits, and in the walls, a thin mesh of real copper. And it was that copper that made the Bird attractive to me. Here, I was unreachable. I stepped through that door and suddenly it I was more isolated than the rifters at the bottom of the deep pacific trenches.

I ordered bourbon, Kenyan, from before the second crash, and leaned back, watching the band. I knew my bodyguards were around me and I would never really be alone but for a moment, I was the closest I would ever be.

The first bullet tore through my chest and spine before I even realized there was a shooter or that anyone was pushing a gun at me. An old-fashioned kinetic slug gun, the attacker had probably been waiting for an opportunity like the one afforded by the Faraday club for a long time. The second tore through my right lung and spun me to the floor. My bodyguards were a blur of motion, photonic nerves and vat-synth muscles and grim chemically enhanced calm, and my attacker was on the ground before he could pull the trigger a third time. I don’t really know what happened; I’m laying on my side, my legs twitching spasmodically. I feel cold and the edges of my vision are turning black.

Around me I hear cries, “The prime minister’s been shot!” and “Protect the prime minister.”

And then there is darkness and a silence greater than any faraday cage.

As only Europe voted on the issue of the Sino-Japanese War, the vote closes with nay.

We begin bombing in five minutes.

Democracy Inaction!*

*Alternatively: One Man, One Vote.

In which Europe is the Man and he alone has the Vote.

We're working on terms, Shadow.

*Alternatively: One Man, One Vote.

 Look, I said "One Man, One Vote." What's so confusing about that? I'm the Man! It's my Vote!

In all seriousness, Japan and Oceania have submitted a ledger of terms to China and India. Full annexation of China is not and has never been our goal.

It'd be nice if we could see these terms. All international diplomacy should be conducted via press release. Or, better yet, twitter.

Sorry, I'm headed into a tunnel. I'll have to call you back later.

There is no terms. There has never been terms. Just unrealistic Japanese dreams they can not and will never able to enforce.

No mas, the war continues.

It's nothing personal. It's just bloodthirsty conquest and megalomania.

Does this mean that the Europeans who were bashing the Chinese for attacking the Russians are now favoring the Chinese?

The Caliph is pleased to announce that a Non Aggression Pact has been reached with Nyanza. May peace and safety grace both our nations
