Nuke Nes IX: Genesis and Armageddon

Thirded.

Age of discovery formalized NES. I like stats.

Meh I am not sure if I should vote considering I've been kind of petering out on the story side of things and not really fleshing out my culture which is more or less caused by the pick up in homework for me recently and my own personal laziness. I vote 2 I suppose and I'll try to flesh out the culture in the next few general updates if we go with that?

Age of Discovery seems to be in the majority (and I'm fine with that) but I'd like to keep the option open for things to take a steam punk turn in the future

Option 2, age of discovery.

Option 2. Medieval India!

Option 2, But ONLY if the Nannuk managed to expand southward into Africa, AND somehow manage to get a hook into the Conquering an Empire/Colonizing an Empire/Steaming up an Empire business. :p.

Personally, I am eagerly awaiting Eltain to get back into the mode and we can Story Duel each other! Like story war, but quality instead of quantity! :D Or I can accept a challenge from anyone other than Immac: Immac will simply cream me in a story duel, then flash freeze me to use in whatever scheme he is brewing for his next NES. :p

Option 2.

Option 2.

I have been updating the nes so it can go to the agreed upon "age of discovery". So, we will be advancing a little more than a thousand years or so.

Anything you want in your culture, you should say now. Does the Surnit want to become a militaristic feudal state? Alright. Does the Dominikan nation want to become more democratic? No problem. Do the Synt want to establish a centralized religion? You bet! Do the Cayun want to be pioneers in sea discovery? All right! This is the time where you guys are getting to make your "ideal" states. The conflicts will come when you guys meet each other, and you will be figuring out how to deal with 3 to 5 different worlds. Any territories you want to attempt to conquer, feel free to add. You may get them and lose them within the BT, but so be it. The world is your oyster, I'm working on NPC cultures and such for now :)

Alright starting to fill stuff in just tell me if you don't like it and I can change it.

Basic Idea: Psions will unite under a proto-welfare state with a monarch at its head while adopting a system similar to Rome's in administrating its territory. The nation state will try to be at the head of technology and will gain a somewhat isolationist attitude in that it doesn't like formal alliances unless against a common foe. Trade wise it will be fairly open to other nations as long as the nations remain friendly.

Territory Expansion: Retake most lands if possible from the Cemolian and expand to the Rio Grand (Which the psions will call Et Surra) in the east and south along the coast.

Economics in slightly better detail: Being a proto welfare state means the monarchy is giving food and water to the impoverish and also trying to provide more as time progresses and seeking to keep the merchant classes from getting too much control of the wealth they are heavily taxed. Most crucial mines, forges, docks, and many agricultural areas are under the Monarchy's control if not directly controlled by the monarch himself. The lower classes are beginning to rise up standard of living wise thanks to the welfare, however there is a real lack of an upper class in control of large portions of the wealth which could limit the nation in the future. The non merchant middle class is also doing well with plenty of projects being ordered from roads to forts along the frontier. Of course this is subject to dramatic change depending on how foreign economies are developing and fortunes of future war.

Culture: Culturally the nation's policies reflect the people mostly. The people for the most part have lost their reliance on family relationships and are fairly accepting of the more extreme members such as those with different sexuality or political ideals than society at large. They however are very nationalistic, but have not developed a want for imperialism just yet. The people are also appreciative of the beginnings of the welfare policies, and have a deep distrust for those with large amounts of wealth. The distrust has not lead to any conflict of sorts, but stresses the nation as whole as the classes have friction with the small and weak for how much wealth they control upper classes desperate to gain more power to protect themselves from the distrustful lower classes. The middle class which has been developing for some time however is trying to establish its own politics and where it fits into this environment of distrust between the two well established classes.

Fine Arts
: The fine arts of psion society are mostly towards realism when it comes to paintings and portraits. Landscapes are fairly popular amongst the psion society as a whole. Portraits are usually saved for great figures and leaders of the nation as a whole rather than those with the money to afford them like the upper classes. Sculpture work has taken a back seat in Psion society with paintings with their more vivid colors becoming more popular with every passing generation. A fashion sense has yet to develope except amongst the rich with the poor and middle classes mainly dressing for comfort rather than style and the upper classes themselves have yet to begin giving up comfort for style as well but their comforts include rare furs and other materials of the like. Architecture is also built for function when it comes to work houses, government buildings, and military fortresses. Housing however has been known for trying to get bigger and taller for the most part with small homes for just a regular family of four to five being only preferred by the middle class.

Politics: Riddled with class tension for the most part, but only the small amount of rich disagree with current policies at large. Much of the middle class however is vocal for expansion and further trading. The lower classes want more farmlands or work areas such as mines and quarries to work at as the population grows. These could be driving points for Psion exploration or an evolution of imperialism and colonization as the world enters an age of discovery.

Fun Facts
: Maybe to be filled?

The Taharnnen would most likely become a formidable trade and seafaring state.

These are the incredibly presumptuous and grandiose things I'd optimally like to see done with the Turyline culture:

Spoiler :
1. Empire and the Mandate of Heaven
As the sphere of the Turyline monarchs grows, and their relative influence and power in the world does as well, the monarchical tradition of Turyline society should ultimately come into conflict with the equally-influential mercantile tradition and caste. In order to legitimize a greater control of state and cultural affairs by the monarchy, the Turyline monarchs will adopt monotheistic religion and proclaim themselves to be emperors, to rule over the Turyline eternally, by mandate of god. If there is any kind of brief civil war-type conflict, the royal family is ultimately able to suppress mercantile revolt through military superiority, and the judicious use of intermarriage of royal blood with major mercantile families. Indeed, if at all possible the interweaving of royal blood with merchant families should be used to prevent any kind of opportunity for major conflict to occur in the first place. The adoption of the Mandate of Heaven, as means of legitimizing the increased power (and continuing to increase the power of) the monarch should engender further expansionist policies. Hopefully, the Turyline emperors will be a judicious lot and will use the existing social structure of Turyline society to their advantage. At this point (prior to BT), the military is largely composed of a comparatively small standing army controlled by the monarch and the royal family, supplemented by levied poleis militias with some level of military tradition, and indentured military institutions among non-Turyline peoples in the Turyline-held Anatolian hinterlands (in the style of the ghulams). Centralization under the monarchs should give way to the full centralization of the military, as power migrates from the poleis merchants to the imperial throne, and ultimately the emperors and those who report directly to them should hold full sway over the military. What was formerly poleis levied militia should be streamlined, as the ancestral officer families that traditionally commanded Turyline armies are absorbed into the imperial command structure. The existing composite royal army will form the platform on which the new military will be based, and holding the former poleis officer families and those that reported to them to the imperial sway should not be difficult. The non-Turyline peoples who had indentured service to the throne in their blood should be Turylized as modernization reaches out into the hinterlands, to whatever extent they can be. Until such a time as they consider themselves Turyline, and are willing to report directly to the imperial throne, these non-Turyline peoples should command their own regiments and units within the new imperial military. If it can be accepted that the new Turyline emperors are a judicious lot, they should use the growing standing military to first reinforce Turyline's position as a mercantile and military power in the Mediterranean and in Asia Minor, and to ensure Turyline control over Crimea and the Black Sea.

1A. Social Aspects of Empire
I think I've painted a fairly clear picture thus far, but I'll be more specific. The intention is to centralize the existing Turyline kingdom and its client city-states not only politically but socially and culturally. As the Turyline monarchs slowly extend their control over the entirety of Turyline society, the functional autonomy of the city-states should be dissolved, as regional bodies are divided into provinces which report to the imperial throne. Chief among the things necessary to be done to ensure this transfer is successful is to tie the mercantile families to the imperial throne, as I detailed. Secondly is to slowly and gradually dissolve existing city-state governments, and reconstitute them as provincial governments fully loyal to the imperial throne. This will be accomplished by bringing the most loyal and trustworthy poleis administrators into the royal circle, and ultimately beholding these largely-familial institutions to the monarch through intermarriage, and creating the tradition of full poleis subservience to the throne. The creation of a Mandate of Heaven might tie the imperial throne to a powerful clergy, but we should prevent this from occurring. The creation of any kind of major religious infrastructure within the empire should be hampered by making the throne itself the religious epicenter; as monarchs appointed by god, the emperors are naturally god's voice on earth. Religious authority will derive from the emperor/empress and they will hold full sway, now and perpetually, over any clergy or religious infrastructure created by the full adoption of a state religion. More generally, we should accept and encourage the gradual Turylization of all the peoples within the empire, and try to gradually expunge all separate cultural identities that prove themselves detrimental to the overall unity of the imperial domain. Do this slowly, slowly, slowly, slowly, slowly. I want to avoid the various cultural conflicts that tore apart the Byzantine and Ottoman empires.

1B. Expanding the Imperial Domain
So here I'm basically going to outline what I want the borders to look like. This should be accomplished, or failed spectacularly, over a series of wars to be fought sporadically across the BT. Or perhaps more accurately, we should strive towards this, but don't destroy ourselves in the attempt. Don't fight one major, long, drawn-out conflict to annihilate our neighbors, just chip away at some of them slowly.

We should try to extend our control over Anatolia. The Vanuka are ultimately just glorified Turkish-Moroccan pirates, and naturally need to be annihilated for their assaults against good, civilized peoples like us and the Cekirdeksel. We should also try to secure the Balkans (Bosnia, Romania, Serbia, etc) and some kind of port along the Adriatic Sea. The oppressed people living under the Cekirdeksel boot in Smyrna need to join the glorious Turyline Anatolian union. We must control the Black Sea and the Levant, or at least the Black Sea. Annihilate the glorified Mongol Stekli, take their land, and drive them north into Russia and Livonia. Cooperate with the Ut, and don't try to destroy the Cekirdeksel Mediterranean empire. All we want is control over Anatolia, the Balkans and the Black Sea. The Levant would be nice, but we don't need it as much as we do Anatolia and the Balkans. In order to avoid military conquest, drive the poor and uncooperative peoples into these territories and establish a large Turyline presence in order to legitimize our claim to these territories.

2. Titles and State Stuff
If I've already stated the royal family name, consider this a retcon. The imperial throne is rightly held by the mandate of god above by the Bayesrid Emperors. Here is the official imperial title:

[Name] Emperor/Empress of the Turylines, by the Grace of God Above, Protector of the Imperial Domain

This is the desired nation name:

Turyline Empire

I might add more to this later, but at the risk of being too specific and bogging down the BT process, this is basically what I would like to have done in the best possible scenario. Eagerly anticipating seeing what the world post-BT looks like.

I will give more info later, by the basics is the Surnit will contuine to work to expell the barbarians to the North, and after that is done would contuine its focus on being a state that trades heavily.

Over waxes and wanes, the Nannuk will establish themselves across the Mediterranean ranging from small, Shanuka-like states to Vanukurat-style Hegemonies. Because of the way their culture works and how they have experienced the two Exiles, they will always unite locally, and even regionally, against outside foes, and their local conflict means that Nannukan militia can almost always stand up to invading guards and professionals or fight scattering skirmishes as needed.

Shannuka will go with our plan and unify with Lyba, forming a strong North African empire as well as sending waves of Nannukan/Lyban people to push out and replace the current nomads of the Sahara and control its trade routes. For the Nannukan half of the culture, they will always continue to seek new lands to settle and new people to fight, and, if respect is earned, trade. Sahara and the Trans-Sahara will be filled with loose, nomadic Nannukan tribes, living like their ancient ancestors in Palestine once did before the first Exile. The more sea-worthy Nannuks will slowly migrate into the Atlantic like sea-Gypsies, only recognizing and recognized Lybanukan ports as havens. Each ship is its own tribe. Eventually, they will make their own efforts to cross the Atlantic or round Africa, and boast of each minor achievement to their buddies back at Carthage.

Vanuka will grow to the Levant and perhaps further, but that is about the maximum a Hegemonic-style power on such a fractious people can hold. Common rebellion due to overpopulation will be fixed with a government crackdown, and mass migration of the survivers of said rebellion to various places as outlaws. They will be seen by others as a Vanukan Army (because even Nannuk Rabble are contentious foes) but by the Vanukans themselves as the rabble-rousing rebellion remnants they are. Not only will this keep pressure on any Cayun outposts left on the mainland and the Turyline frontier, and the massive bulk of the Ut Shias, this will also spread waves of migrants into and across the Caucasian Mountains, reversing the flow of migrating warriors for a time and adopting new ways of war. The government itself will stay stable in relation to their neighbors, for growing strengths will lead to a campaign, and growing weaknesses will lead to challenges by local nobles, which will either give the throne to a Prestegious Newcommer, or to the now Bloodied King sitting on his new throne of treasonous skulls. As with any news of battle, more Nannuk will swarm to join the Royal Army and it once again will return to the balance. As for trade, the Vanukans have all they need already; Steel for weapons, Food for the body, Alcohol for the soul. They might trade their superior weapons and mercenary bands for luxuries, though. (Only the most prestigious men can be seen with them; any other lesser man seen with them will be accused of weakness and challenged, often to the death; in any case, if that lesser man survives he will prove his worth to use the luxuries anyway)

Some Nannuk survived the first Exile all those years ago by migrating into the sands of the Arabian Peninsula. Their descendents are slowly revealed over time.

Nuke I told you all my desired traits on AIM but for a religion name how about..Hexilism or something cool like that
