We really need to keep an eye on our culture war battleground cities. Culture City is in pretty good shape at the moment, as a result of the culture bomb. Gao, though, is in danger of losing some tiles to Rostov. I think it might be best to

that Courthouse in Gao and get the city to start building some more cultural buildings.
When it is available, we will need to build the Hermitage in Culture City. It is more important that we hang onto our iron and gold rather than our stone. Both of these cities will need Cathedrals, though.
Turn 165 (1050 AD)
Many of our cities have extra happiness, so I decide to do some MM to speed up population growth. I also need to see about getting some water over to Zapotec. That will be a nice production city that could use a bit of irrigation.
Turn 166 (1060 AD)
Kumbi Saleh finishes: Hindu Missionary and begins: Settler
Gao finishes: Courthouse and begins: Hindu Monastery for the culture!
Zapotec finishes: Market and begins: Maceman
Walata finishes: Forge and begins: Granary
Uzbek finishes: Forge and begins: Courthouse
Niani finishes: Granary and begins: Forge
Turn 167 (1070 AD)
I found our newest city at Cabledawg's suggested orange dot. Notice the health issues from the jungle!

The city will definitely need some Workers.
Awdaghost founded
Awdaghost begins: Granary
IBT:
Tech learned: Paper
Turn 168 (1080 AD)
I was tempted to research Drama to pick up the +3cpt Theatre. But, it would probably behoove us to get the Universities constructed as quickly as possible.
Research begun: Education
And what should I come across!
Please do not put Workers to sleep! Especially with the amount of improvements that are still needed! I could have easily gone my whole set without noticing those guys just squatting down there.
Turn 169 (1090 AD)
Walata finishes: Granary and begins: Library
I rather wonder what Peter is up to, with these troops so far away from home.
IBT:
Cyrus decides to demand Music from us. I wasn't feeling
charitable.
Turn 170 (1100 AD)
Djenne finishes: Courthouse and begins: War Elephant
Zapotec finishes: Maceman and begins: Maceman
We are still ranked in last place in military. Hopefully we can at least catch up to tied with last.
Gao finishes: Hindu Monastery and begins: Hindu Temple
If we had 1 more temple, we could build a Cathedral.
Culture finishes: Forge and begins: Granary
Evidently we had a Warrior fortified up in the NE corner of the map. I did not know he was there. My assumption is that Peter founded this city and caused him to wake up.
IBT:
Hypatia (Great Scientist) born in Timbuktu
Cyrus and Mao sign a peace treaty.
Turn 171 (1110 AD)
Kumbi Saleh finishes: Settler and begins: Maceman
Uzbek finishes: Courthouse and begins: Spearman
I'm seeing a few too many Horse Archers wandering around, so I think a couple more Spearmen would be in order.
Culture finishes: Forge and begins: Granary
And now our Great Scientist gives us one of those "interesting choices" that
![Civ4 [civ4] [civ4]](/images/smilies/civ4.gif)
is famous for. Do we build an Academy or take the free 1728 beakers toward Education? Normally this would be a no-brainer decision -- hit the lightbulb for Education. But, this game is (hopefully) going the distance to the year 2050. We currently have 19 turns left on Education, and the GS would bring that down to about 4 or 5 turns. In the end, I built the Academy. I'm not convinced it was the right decision, but with a monopoly on Paper I felt that we had a comfortable tech lead.
Timbuktu finishes: Academy
Turn 172 (1120 AD)
Timbuktu finishes: Forge and begins: Market to help shore up our finances.
Alexander isn't interested in signing a peace treaty with Cyrus. I go ahead and open borders with him, though. The foreign trade routes alone are worth 13 gold coins.
I also notice that Peter is only a border expansion away from picking up some Elephants. He could end up being a threat one day, after all.
