OB01 - Time Gentlemen!

The only times weve been at war is when it has been declared when i was playing....I sense a pattern here.

Before I press enter, i look around and spot this.

A closer look reveals this

Civ4ScreenShot0106CC.jpg

There is never a reason for a city to go into unhappiness. Much less, 5 unhealthiness. Were still in slavery so we should whip stuff for at least 2 pop or build military as we are in hereditary rule. There is a market building here and I will whip it for 2 pop first chance i get and put the over flow in an aqueduct. Also weve had Niani for a gazillion years and it doesnt have our religion so its borders havent popped yet. Wasnt Nianni gonna be our GP farm?

I make this deal with Alex for the health and double happiness (with forge) from silver.
Civ4ScreenShot0108CC.jpg

I press Enter:

1310AD
We built something that makes us happy;)
Civ4ScreenShot0110CC.jpg

I starve Timbuk and hire some priest to try and generate another prophet for the Confused shrine. I start an aqueduct there.
Civ4ScreenShot0111CC.jpg

1320AD
Kumbi----->Theatre----->Hindu Missionary
Zapotec---->Theatre----->Hindu Missionary
Walata----->Theatre----->Hindu Missionary

The Missionary that was heading to Nianni failed, so i build more because we need another one in the new city.

1330AD
Uzbek------>Mace------>Theatre
Culture----->Court----->Aqueduct
Nianni------>Market whipped for 2 pop
Awdaghost-->Granary whipped

I make this trade to Alex
Civ4ScreenShot0112CC.jpg

Alex might be our buddy now. Im sure hes forgotten about our last war and wouldnt dare attack us now that we have these lucrative trade deals going.

CONTINUED

1340AD
Kumbi------->H Missionary----->Aqueduct
Zapotec----->H Missionary----->Aqueduct
Timbuk------>Aqueduct-------->Monastary
Nianni------->Market----------->Aqueduct
Awdaghost--->Granary--------->Forge
Tadmekka---->Longbow-------->Granary

I MM Nianni. I hire 2 Merchants taken from (2) 3F3C Oasis Tiles. We dont lose any coin because the Merchants are 3 commerce and we start generating some GP here. I was thinking about this. Maybe Oz had planned this and went over the happiness cap and didnt want to whip the market for 3 pop and wanted to wait till it could be whipped for 2 pop. Whipping it for 2 pop was perfect as it grew back the next turn....so maybe it was planned.
Civ4ScreenShot0113CC.jpg

1350AD
Liberalism comes in and i choose Compass as we need Harbors for health.
Civ4ScreenShot0115CC.jpg

I choose Guilds next due in 4 turns.
Walata------->H Missionary------>Aqueduct
Uzbek-------->Theatre----------->Mace
Zapotec------Will start Taj after completion of aqueduct
You didnt really think i chose compass did you?

1360AD
We pop a Great Scientist and I use him to bulb partial of printing press and i switch from guilds to it...due in 2 turns. I counted the towns and villages and that will be huge for us.
I fire the worthless priest now and MM Timbuk for growth.
I wanna replace the watermills at Timbuk and build cottages to take advantage of the commerce from Beuracracy, but i figure someone has put them there for a reason.

1370AD
Djenne-------->Universaty------>Jumbo
Zapotec------->Aqueduct------->Taj Majal (21)
Zapo has the best production, ill be assisting with a chop, and I dont wanna pollute anyone elses GP pool.

I make this deal with ALex
460 gold, Compass........for Music. I just wanted his gold
I make this deal with Toky
250 gold.......................for Music

I use all the money to upgrade troops, specifically near Peter and Toky.

1380AD
Civ4ScreenShot0118CC.jpg

YOU Mother$#%^@&, you sonofa^&*@%$@!!!!!!!

Civ4ScreenShot0119CC.jpg

Printing Press comes in, i choose guilds, but turn research slider down to 0 to upgrade more troops.

I still have a Skirmisher in Culture and he gets upgraded to a longbow. Culture just completed an aqueduct and can build a wall in 1.....I do it. Ill whip longbows on the following turns. Ill whip Culture down to 1 if i have to, if we lose it, well never get the culture back there.

Timbuk-------->Monastary-------->Barracks
Niani---------->Whip Aqueduct
Tadmekka----->Whip Granary
Gao------------>Whip Hindu Mandir
Walata--------->Whip Aqueduct
Djenne--------->Whip Jumbo

1390AD
Djenne--------->Jumbo----------->Mace
Kumbi---------->Aqueduct------->Mace
Gao------------->Hindu Mandir--->Mace
Walata---------->Aqueduct------->Jumbo
Culture--------->Walla------------>Longbow (whipped)
Nianni---------->Aqueduct-------->Jumbo
Tadmekka------>Granary---------->Longbow

Alex attacked Culture with some Horse Archers and we won.
Civ4ScreenShot0121CC.jpg

Ive got units coming up from the south and dont know if they will get there in time. I switched to Vassalage....I should have done it the turn before but didnt think about it:cry:

Mao declares War on Cyrus

I decide to make this deal with Peter and wished i hadnt of switched to Vassalage before this. Now itll be 5 turns before we can switch to Theocracy.
Civ4ScreenShot0125CC.jpg

More Military builds going on everywhere. All frontline troops have been upgraded, so i turned research back on. Zapotec is still building Taj, the next person can change it if you need more military.

At Gao, a Horse Archer is threatening our only source of metal now so i move a Longbow to it and whip a mace.
Civ4ScreenShot0123CC.jpg

This is the situation now at Culture.
Civ4ScreenShot0122CC.jpg

Ive just whipped another longbow for 2 pop there and ive got a ministack that can move in the next turn. I hope it survives. I played 10 turns and if there was a betting pool on who would have attacked us, I wouldnt have picked Alex. Jeez, we have the same friggin religion. Weve got our war now.....lets press it.

I get this message when I use manage attachments:
OB-01 AD-1400.Civ4SavedGame:
Your file of 511.1 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 500.0 KB for this filetype.

So maybe deadzoom will work

One more thing. We need to discuss where to put heroic Epic. At some point during this war, we should be able to build it. After Zapotec gets a chop, a new mine, and stop growth, itll prolly do Taj in 14 turns or less. Zapo will have massive production with Lumbermills. But we might not want to wait for Zapo to finish taj before starting Heroic Epic.

If we survive and keep culture, It may not be a bad idea to put it there. With gold, iron, and copper...all workable. it could pump out units fast and heroic Epic adds culture to Culture.

Got the game, will try to play tonight, otherwise tomorrow afternoon.
I was going to ask wether we patch to 2.08 or not, then I realised it's vanilla :D

Well, bummer! Alex declares on us again. :eek: Since he's done it twice, I guess that means he will probably be doing it the rest of the game.

Ozbenno said:
Well Alex is a big softie after all and won't declare on anyone. I don't know if this will change if we are on better terms so may be buttering him up a bit might be in order.
Could you clarify what you meant by "buttering him up"? You didn't gift all of those techs to him, did you?

I strongly agree with this statement. We must keep this city at all costs. It is our only source of iron.

Did we lose our iron to pillaging or did we lose the tile to Cyrus' culture? :cry: I'm hoping it was only pillaged!

It has been a few turns since I've seen a save, but I was thinking Culture was our best hammer city. If that is the case, I'd rather put HE there. Plus from the looks of things, this city may well be the focal point of our future wars!

Yes, we lost the iron and copper at Culture to pillaging, so our only source of metal now is the copper at Gao. There is also a ministack heading to Gao.

If we dont lose Culture, the next person needs to remember to start sending workers back up there.

T1: Culture survives the first wave of attacks thrown against it without any losses
Gao: Mace -> Spear
Culture: Longbow -> Spear
Toku declares on Victoria :)

That looks Positive, second in tech :)

T2: Taku asks to declare on Victoria, I accept, Victoria is behind Toku's land anyway, so it's a phony war
Djenne: Mace -> Cat
Kumbi: Mace-> Cat
Walata: W. Elephant -> Cat
Culture: Spear -> Cat
Niani: W. Elephant -> Cat

T3:

Select Gunpowder as next tech
Uzbek: W. Elephant -> Spear
Our territory is cleaned from Alexanders units, but he has (a lot) more coming

T4: Timbuktu: W. Elephant -> W. Elephant
Djenne: Cat -> W. Elephant
Kumbi:Cat -> W. Elephant
Culture: Cat -> Spear

T5: Mao asks to declare on Cyrus, I decline
Walata: Cat -> W. Elephant
Uzbek: Spear -> Spear

T6: Whipped a Longbow in Tadmella, and it was needed, he barely survived against 2 W. Elephants
Niani: Cat -> Cat
Tadmella: Longbow -> Spear

T7: Djenne: W. Elephant -> W. Elephant
Kumbi: W. Elephant -> Cat
Uzbek: Spear -> Cat

T8: Lose Tadmella to a stupid HA :mad:

Select Engineering as next tech

Timbuktu: W. Elephant -> W. Elephant
Walata: W. Elephant -> W. Elephant
Culture: Spear -> Cat

This seemed like a good spot to give the game to the next player, Alexanders attack is broken and i moved a rather big stack to attack.

And the save is too big so i'll upload it somewhere else -> see next post :)

Tadmekka is no big deal...I think the only thing it had was a granary which was whipped. How does a HA beat a fortified Longbow? Maybe it was the headless horseman and it scared the longbow so much, he passed out.

You didnt really think i chose compass did you?

Even though I did the same thing as this in FTS01 - The Accountant Wars, a SG Conroe started, I completely fell for this one :lol:. I was wondering whether Cabledawg was confused, because of the crab trade with Cyrus, into thinking we could build Harbours.

Nice work, Cabledawg :goodjob:.

Alright, then, I've got it. How does everybody feel about making peace with Alexander? If we are losing cities to him, it might be best to just end this thing. :scared: Although, Furrie did mention that a "big stack to attack" was available, but provided few details ... :mischief:

I dont think we need peace. The city of Culture held and we only lost a new city with nothing in it. Remember, we cant declare on another civ. Since Alex has declared on us, lets take him out or at least take a few good resource cities.

we aren't losing any cities to Alex, it was just a stroke of bad luck to lose that 1 city.
We have a stack of about 20-25 units at culture to attack :)
