Defense Secretary Gates and JCoS Chairman Adm. Mullen were upbraided by Republicans for moving ahead with how to eliminate DADT, instead of further studying whether it should be done or not, as their Commander-in-Chief ordered them to do!

I think McCains main beef is doing it while we are in the middle of Iraq and Afghanistan. Its not exactly smart in engaging in a major change of military policy when you dont have much of an idea what the overall impact is going to be.

That's funny. I'd say it's not exactly smart engaging in even more obvious stalling tactics by the far-right and a minority of the armed forces. After all, the experts know all too well that it will have little or no implications, just as the adoption of the DADT policy in 1993 had no major effects, despite the dire warnings to the contrary from the far-right at the time.

DADT did have some major effects. In fact, the thousands removed from service under DADT is a major talking point currently is it not?

Sure. Expected increase in sexual harassment/sexual assault cases. 'Course thats only bad news to the military in general, but good news for me since its just more job security.

Sexual harassment is often in the eyes of the victim. I am not saying they will be predatory, but the first time one makes a pass at someone who doest care for it, its going to be either a harassment or assault case waiting to happen.

I will try to explain this so you understand.

Heterosexuals are not restricted by a policy akin to DADT so they are free to openly express their sexuality in ways that the opposite sex sometimes finds harassing. As the saying goes, 'harassment is in the eye of the beholder', which can (and does) result in a pretty wide definition of what harassement is or is not.

Now, if you take the restrictions of DADT off the homosexual community, then they too are going to express their sexuality in ways previously disallowed.....and in doing so will assuredly garner a plethora of sexual harassment accusations in their own right.

I have seen people claim sexual harassment over the most stupid and minimal issues. And because the military (at least the Army) has a zero tolerance on such things, even the most innocent compliment can result in a harassment compliant and we are required to investigate it completely, because it has indeed been a valid problem in the military for a long period of time.
