I think it could be a UU. Firaxis staged those screenshots, nothing is stopping them from placing a civ's UU in the map editor for the barbarians.
The weapon looks Native American, but the unit itself looks African to me. This is getting interesting.
We have to keep ourselves somehow busy until the next civ reveal, since we basically know almost everything about Poland, Assyria and Brazil.
What better way is there to do this then speculating on a new "green-blob".
The barbarian unit's emblem in that screenshot looks more like a tomahawk than an axe. I don't know why a barbarian would have a UU, but who says staged screenshots have to make sense?
we have confirmation now that the Siege Tower is a replacement for the catapult, so you can put that away. The question is, what does it do to be special? Is it another melee seige unit like the Battering Ram?
Maybe they're losing spears and/or pikes, so that the default resource-free unit for those eras aren't kryptonite to one of the resource-intensive units.
So, can anyone recognize what City Artstyle is Brazil using here? It doesn't seem to be European, but I can't truly recognize it since I don't usually get to modern times... (usually switch civs before that happens, haven't finished a game in a while)

Probably have armor vs archer type units. It would be cool if they could have both types of attack. It's hard to get near city with cats, and no ranged attack would be a downside.

IIRC, their citystyle looks to be Native American -- same sort as with the Iroquois or Mayans, for instance. Interesting choice, particularly given that America, the only other European-descended Western Hemisphere civ in the game, uses a European city style.

I'm guessing 1.) and it was purposely put in for people to guess/speculate on it. Although if true I am worried about the fate of the swordsman, since in G&K they are rarely used as is. A new early game unit is even more competition for the poor swordsman.
Maybe swords are getting a unique promotion/buff and axemen will be the weaker iron-less version while leaving spears/pikes to their anti-mounted specialty.

What if that barbarian unit (the axeman) is a new Native American UU that can raid and attack under the guise of a barbarian, sort of a land privateer? It would allow you to pillage and disrupt enemies without declaring war. The downside is that your UU would be killed on sight by other civilizations and CSs.
Is there any merit in my suggestion or does that sound silly/unlikely?

I dunno... Maybe I'm just seeing Jesus on a piece of toast, but I'm zooming in on that image and it really looks like it might be some sort of Native American. Also, I'm almost convinced that the emblem is specifically a tomahawk. Do a search on a tomahawk and compare the outline.
