Octafish

 Didn't realize the Incas & their UU were so popular.

Fair enuf. Don't want this to turn into a build-&-kill encounter... other than the ample & aggressive AI.

I'll stay with Maya.

Hey, Bath, we gonna get started soon?

You know that if we get stuck on top of each other violence is inevitable. Its just that the Inca is almost impossible to counter right of the bat.

The map is going to drive the game I suppose. I am a little leery of the snaky continents thing myself. But we are gonna put up a fight regardless. I hope we get off today.

Hope it's not too late, but I would like to change my pick to Ragnar of the Vikings.

The average lifespan of a Viking longboat on a Sumerian coast will be measured in nanobleeps. Just saying.

;)

Edit: Pushing 10pm Bathsheba time..... I guess we ain't going today.
Re-edit: I see that we do have a Viking in the lineup so maybe its time to stop wandering in the wilderness and found the first village.

As for map, thot Bath had agreed to normal continets so we can have some land masses to grow & proposer (& fight) on.

Bath...? Yoo hoo, Bath? The Civ's are growing restless. Hope all is well in your real world so U can start our altern world?

OK, since we havn't started yet, i'm switching back to Mali.

FYI: If U havn't already discovered, this a a VERY clever/well-done/useful leader calculator:
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/refe...er_picker.html

It helped me change my pick (again).

The amount of effort folks put in for our enjoyment = amazing & really nice. What gaming is all about.

Strange, i just cliked on it in your post & went rite there.

I'm using FireFox with Win Vista. Perhaps U can just copy & paste into browser.
It's quite nice & U can download it for offline use.

Good luck.

Bushido "The way of the Warrior" requires no luck ;)

I agree Chicken, about the pig. :D

Seems we may have lost our leader. I know he's involved in several PBEM's... this may be low priority.

Hey, Bath, R U with us? If can't run, perhaps U can share password, etc with 1 of us & we can kick this off? Long weekend is wasting away.

Additional thots after more practice with advanced start on huge big-&-small map...
using hotseat to emulate (except won't do full globe setting), seems to be a REALLY crowded world with 18 civ's + seems to force map-maker to create a couple of pangea-like continents to handle the max civ's. How about scaling back to 16 (humans+1 AI each)?
Also noticing slow down in computer (Win Vista on 64-bit HP+4gb+updated Nvida video) even before 1AD.

Q: We going with 500 advanced gold or the default 750?
Very different game using advanced start. I may come to like it; just have to learn how to spend advanced gold wisely. :undecide:

Sorry, work crisis, and can't quite make up my mind about the follow the sun thing.

Chi was not particularly crowded - except for me actually wedged on a corner - I assume two cities each was average chosen to start. It looks like most civs built several cities before wars started, and still 12 civs left @ 1700 ad. We had low seas, don't know if that is the difference.

I think stick with the 440 gold, we want to leave people with something to do in the early days.

Also don't want people buying religious techs probably too much of an advantage

I'll try to get this moving tomorrow evening.

don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good

Huh? "Chi" = ?? Not following.

Glad to read from U, but confused. Amount of advanced gold is for all civ's, includung AI?

Ready when U R... i think. :crazyeye:

Ah-h-h, thanks. :)

Speaking of settings... i'v not played Raging Barbs since early Civ 3. They're nuts!

Been practicing with settings by running 2 civ's in a 16-civ Hotseat game. Literally been battling barbs for a thousand years!
They've been a continuous stream! Doing nothing but building barracks & units. Afraid to do any improvements because they just swarm in & pillage them. NOT FUN. Just forcing us into a military shootout already & the "Raging AI" havn't even started yet! Judging by scouts' reports, they're up their butts in barbs too.

I'm much more into building & making gold & expanding... not in a shootout. (there's 100's of shoot'em up games out there) War is inevitable, but geez, how about a little empire building 1st?

What ya'll think? I vote to dial down the barbs (& AI) a notch or use default.

Sofa Itch is both an anagram of Octafish and also the condition I've gotten sitting around and waiting for this to start.

:)

We started.

Sorry about the wait.
The reason I play pbems, and no other civ, is because my job has me at the point where I can only think in 5-10 minute timeslices - to permit myself another turn - at times, and now was one of those times.

So, post one has the new play order - I decided to go for twice round the world again.
For this first round you need to dig up the old email I sent with everyone's addresses, and email the save to the next player after playing it.
- although, as an experiment, you could also try pbemtracker, after I will shortly have edited it.

This will not work for Ricketyclik as he, (and I), opted for random selection of leaders and tribes so I do not know what his tribe will be called, but everyone else selected theirs.

Two changes to options: taking on board various comments
- barbs are no longer raging, but otherwise it remains aggressive ai monarch
- continents are no longer snaky, although personally this offends my sense of style
(non-snaky continents remind me simply of dwarf pangaia, and god do i hate that)

I emailed the save manually to Gpcii.

As a test, I then went to pbemtracker to try to send it - and it failed.

This was a good test of my typing skills when entering people's details.

So, for the first round
- please send email saves manually (and copy me )
- please follow up with an attempt to also send it via pbemtracker - and let me know how it goes (instructions in first post)

This allows me to clean up typos and then we're good to go.

Good luck everyone.

Finally! Excellent.

Thanks Bath. However, i had asked to go back to my original Mali. :(
Is it too late to correct/adjust? If it's too big a hassle, i'll work with Maya.

Here's hoping we all have space to live & grow... for awhile. ;)
