Off topic UN group

Another note: it would be nice to have a secretary general. Someone who can organize and give central authority over the UN. It's realistic and would make stuff easier to keep straight.

Hmm what about you or Arne HD? Or it has to be someone unassigned?

First we have to do decide if we're even going to have a Secretary General. Then we'll nominate two representatives for an election. If nominated, I'll run. However, I would also like to nominate the former (still?) American Representative, Whomp, if he doesn't object. He created the original idea and has served as an important foundation.

DO we get to build our own security council?! With veto's and everything?!!

hmm. not exactly. Pretty much we have all the councils in one. We discuss the issue proposed by the Sec. General and respond to immediate issues (such as the planned invasion of Somaliland). So there is no security per se but it does sorta exist.

In votes on issues and proposals, a majority of voting members (you can choose to abstain) decides the vote. In the case of a suspension of voting/debating rights, a 2/3 majority is required.

And now that I'm home I'm starting the official UN archives.

I'll jump in on behalf of the United States :), my nation is here to help improve the world and spread freedom and democracy.

I'll have to check with Whomp. Last time he was the American Representative. He very well may decide to switch nations or, if you want, you can enter in as a fellow American delegate (presumably in a junior position). Anyways, glad to have you! Might want to check out the UN archives thread in the "forum games' forum. Soon it should have a good summary of what's gone on and will already teach you some stuff.

BTW-Should we ask the former members if they want to rejoin or just let them come?

I can work as anyone so VX250 can be the US.

opps didn't see that.

I'll represent Australia then. :)

Ok. That solves it. Australia you are.

I would like to propose a resolution condemning Iran's seizure of the British soldiers, and calling for their safe release.

That's a good topic but it might be best to get the whole thing set up before we start the operations.

Could I join? If so I would like to have Nigeria is my country.

Sure. I'll add you to the list. Good luck with Nigeria. :) I'm just finishing that country in my AP Comparative Government class. That's one messed up place.

Any more who want to join? We've got 9 members and that may be enough to start the UN.

Hmm...I've NES'ed, hopefully it prepares me for this.

I'll take Japan. I didn't read this on the thread yet, but I suppose it goes without saying...we are encouraged to act VERY close to the actual country's positions correct?

You're supposed to give a reasonable approximation. If you really want, you can overrule what your government would want. Ultimately you create your own policy based on yourself and the tendencies of your leadership/nation.

Don't worry about being unprepared. This isn't school and it doesn't have to be perfect.
