Official announcement: Hot off the presses. Next Civ game in development!!!!!!!

iirc Ed beach said that he didn't really like the mechanic of swapping in/out cards
Do you have a quote for that? I'd be very surprised if it was dropped so soon, more likely to be tweaked.

I'm more of this mindset as well. They know we know and we know they know we know.

Don't get me wrong, I am definitely ready to hand over my money for Civ 7.

What do you have in mind for a marketing push? I can't even remember how Civ 6 was announced. Trailer? Screenshot? Gameplay?

Me handing over money for Civ7 is 100% dependant on how mod friendly it is

Young console players' first exposure to the franchise.

Given they left Civ Rev2 in a pretty broken state, that bridge is burned, the ashes ground into a powder, cast into a brick, and fired into the sun

Have they announced anything about the scale? If it's going to be yet another game where having more than four cities is the same as ruling from Kamchatka to Bretagne then I'll pass.

Maps come in different sizes already in Civ6 so...I would imagine this will continue to be true on Tiny maps. :p

Maybe, but not to that scaled in older games where you could have 50 cities and have only 10% of the global population and/or land area.

Also, would it be too much to ask for Linux support?

Do you really think they would leave Civ VI with only one duplicate leader after setting that whole thing up? I say all of it was in the plan all along. VI dlc, spin-off and VII.
As early as Gorgo/Pericles reveal, I remember that the whole system was set up for modders in mind rather than something for them to take advantage of.

I'm in watch mode for now. My favorite of Civ as 3/4. 5 was where is the meat? Never got into 6 with the tactical combat and 1 unit per hex.

It would be also unwise for them to announce the game like right now, seeing how they are releasing first DLCs and patches for Midnight Suns.

Build up the hype with this message and either announce civ7 in April/May with release in like October, or (my inner pessimist says) say this to calm down nervous fans since the game isn't coming in 2023 :D

Ed Beach liked swapping in cards as it is a common boardgame mechanic. I remember him mentioning that once as he created a boardgame about Martin Luther and the Reformation.

As for Civ VII, let it be good. After the first Civ, the odd ones have been the worst. II, IV and VI have been great. 😁

This does bode well for Civ 7 releasing before the end of the year. Speculatively, I'd venture an October release with marketing in earnest starting in May or June.
Ok I'm back from the dead. When's the fun speculation going to start?

1, 3, and 5 innovated ideas and 2, 4, and 6 refined them. 7 could be another big innovator.

I guess we'll see. IMHO, III and 5 were the worst of the lot.

Anyway, if VII refines VI then I'll be very happy for that as I quite like VI. 🙂
