Has anybody tried running it (or the demo) on a single core machine yet?

At least on with a hyperthreading Pentium 4 and one with a high-end Athlon64. Worked

I have a gt330m (1gb) video card. Is this enough for this game?Can i play in low-med-or high?Please help!

"Can You Run It" is not very good, trust your processor.

Try disabling the crossfire installation, we had a report where it freezed with crossfire active, but worked without it.

Thanks, tried that; I also disabled my second monitor. Still getting "application has stopped working" message. Maybe it's just the demo.
I'll wait until the 24th and hope that the complete game works. Anyway, my processor (C2D E8500) meets the requirements, the cause of the crash must be another... I suppose.

Dear you lot. I'm hoping someone can tell me whether my comp will run civ5. The demo's not working, so rather than spend ages tinkering with things i don't understand, i'm hoping someone here could save me some time by telling me whether or not it's remotely feasible for my laptop to run the game.

I know absolutely nothing about computers. All this talk of updating drivers etc means nothings to me.

There is a sticker in the corner of my laptop that reads-

CPU- intel pentium dual-core processor t2310, supportsenhanced intel speedstep technology, 1.4ghz
memory- 2gb/go ddr2 sdram (2 x 1gb/go) (533mhz)
hdd- 160gb/go
graphics- intel graphics media accelerator x3100
os- widows vista

Hopefully this is useful, but if not, please tell me how i can relay the relevant info so as someone might be able to tell me whether i have any chance at all of playing the game

sadly i can't afford a new comp, and won't be able to for a while. bit annoying though. had hoped there would be a small chance of me still being able to play it, as i'd often been told my laptop wouldn't be able to run something only to find out that it actually would. i guess this is perhaps a stretch too far.

i will however make the ludicrously optimistic offer of 10 xbox 360 games to anyone who donates me a comp capable of playing the game

I have a GT220M (1GB) and I had no problem running the game. Initially the game set everything to minimum/low but I was able to change most settings to High, and the game ran fine. I'll tinker some more with the settings tonight and see what I can get.

End of Turn seems a little slow but I would think that's going to depend on your processing speed.

Just for reference I can play the game flawlessly on High in DX9 or pretty well with a mix of medium and high settings* on DX10/DX11 with the following specs:

CPU: Q6600 G0 Stepping (overclocked to 3.0 GHz)
GPU: nVidia 512MB 8800 GTS g92 (10% overclock)
RAM: 8GB DDR2
OS: 64 bit Vista SP2

With Vsync on for both DX versions I stay pegged at 60 FPS in DX9 and in DX10/DX11 stay at 60 FPS until I start panning when it initially drops to about 30 but then "catches up" and runs 40-50 FPS.

*Edit: Biggest performance impact for me was to turn Fog of War detail down to low.

I use RivaTuner but the simplest and least intrusive way I know of is to use Fraps.

I used fraps. The little counter in the corner of the screen said a low of 27 FPS zoomed out all the way. 39 - 41 zoomed in all the way with no units visible. 35 - 37 zoomed in with units (workers) visible. Pretty good for a Sapphire Radeon 5670 1Gb, I guess. I'm pretty impressed with the performance of the game so far. I credit that to the game being able to multithread and use my Q6600 to full potential. We'll all see how it does late game with lots of cities and thousands of units.

For the record, I downloaded the game yesterday and have been playing it for about 4 hours so far.

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite computer, with the following specs:

*GeForce 8700 GT graphics card running a 1440X900 resolution
*2 GB DDR2 RAM
*And the killer, a 1.6 Ghz intel C2D Ya know for a gaming laptop this thing has a pathetic processor. But I digress.

The graphics are set stupid-low by default, so I raised them to about low-medium, but was unknowingly running the game at 1280x800 resolution. So I was quite heartened when I got 20-25 FPS running it. Then I noticed it looked a bit fuzzy, so I exited the game and went to the options menu. Seeing the low resolution, I bumped it up to my native 1440x900.

Restarted the game. Suddenly I was getting about 10 FPS on normal zoom! Strategic view will be incredibly helpful, you can switch to it before you go to next turn to greatly speed up the turn shift. Still, I am both saddened and impressed. Saddened because I can't run it well , but impressed because this means the game weights the processor and the graphics card well. So it'll be low-resolution playing for me. Oh, I'm using directx10 version, not that (for this graphics card) I can see much of a difference.

Definitely glad I can at least play the game, but not so sure whether I like it or not yet :/

Playing on an awesome machine here with a damned DSL connection. Plays great offline, but I go online w/ Steam and it locks up.

Am I SOL on playing MP with DSL?

I was preparing myself to buy a new pc after i had seen requirements few weeks ago, but demo was very positive surprise for me! I have laptop with Core 2 Duo 1.6ghz, 2gb ram, and GeForce 8400M GS (with only 128mb dedicated ram...) and sure: 3d view is quite laggy after 100 turns, but Strategic View is completly smoth. It's really great! Greate idea to implement nice looking 3D engine and as simple as possible, but yet complete 2D engine. Great job!

So for all of you wandering about minimal requirements, give the demo @ strategic view chance.

btw, playing lowest details @ 1280x800 resolution. Probalby in late games or on bigger maps, cpu and/or ram will be bottleneck, but who ram is cheap and easily upgradeable. CPU? What the heck, only a little more time to wait between turns.

Looking for some advice - I have a 5-year-old desktop which I bought because my previous one wasn't up to spec for the release of Civ4. Now I'm facing the same dilemma with Civ5.

The machine's specs are:

CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz
Memory: 2 GB
Video Card: Intel(R) 82954G Express Chipset Family

So it appears I'm right at the minimum for RAM, (I think maxed out on the slots so not upgradable), but the video card is a killer.

I also do a lot of video work too so I'm actually short on drive space (only 4 GB available). Would have to uninstall CIV4, perhaps, and get rid of some stuff to clear room.

I'm vaguely in the market for a laptop, however. Any thoughts on what the game experience will be like if I upgrade the existing PC vs. trying to play it on a new laptop that comes closer to the recommended CPU and RAM specs?

The problem is that HP said the power supply limit was 200 W and I need a low profile Graphics card. Does anyone know of any product that will let me run this game?

Hi. I can play Civ5 with directx9 quite easily, but when I try to play it on dx10/11, its very choppy and unplayable. Could this be a settings issue? Instead of trying each setting differently (why can't we change them while in a game?!) to try and get it playable, I was hoping someone here might have a suggestion. It just looks soo much better with dx10/11!

My specs:
AMD Athlon Dual Core 5050e 2.6 ghz
Windows 7 64bit
4 gigs of ram
GeForce 9800 GT
DX11 installed

I've played Dragon Age on max settings, SC2 max settings, and even Crysis on medium-to-high settings with no problem at all. Why would civ5 be giving me problems?

I have updated my drivers too.

I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 and it works great. The low profile MSI should do great as well.

It would be helpful, if you could tell us the exact model number. And the small print from the power supply (like 16A/12V) This might be either an AGP system or a power hog, in which case(s) your video card options would be rather limited
