Oh, the weather outside is...

50s today and going to get very cold Sunday with a low below 10 F

The weather forecast for next week is being compared to a category 5 hurricane.

Single digit temps are expected to the Mexican border and heavy snow accumulation in places where there is no snow removing equipment. Texas is heavily dependent on wind turbine electricity. If the turbines are not working, blackouts are likely and many do not have gas heat. Worse, there are stacked systems of storms, so this will last four to five days before the weather begins to break.

I have gas heat, candles and oil lamps. If necessary, we can cook on the Coleman stove and use the porch for refrigeration. Many others are not so lucky.

Blame the Canadians.

Blame the Canadians.
Yeah. We have these big turbines that we built on the border to blow the cold air down to you Americans. Every once in a while, someone trying to cross the border illegally gets stuck in one, giving the local area a warm spell which we absolutely cannot tolerate. EVERYONE should suffer with the cold like we have to. We're even building a big space refrigerator to cool parts of the earth and keep beer cold for the astronauts in the ISS.

So there. :p

Mild week our 5 days of glorious has mellow ed to mild with rain some nights.

So Canadians are all about "misery loves company?" OK I get that. I guess we need to send more people north to gum up the works....:p

15 F tonight; high of 20 tomorrow and then down to 5 F tomorrow night. Thanks @Lemon Merchant :(

But we might get some rain or snow out of this. That would be good.

Yeah and once the St. Lawrence freezes the Canadians come skating across in hordes and pillage northern New York Hockey tournaments, carrying away all the first place trophies back to Canada. The lone bastions of Massena (youth hockey) and Potsdam (Clarkson University) hold out against these annual onslaughts from the northern aggressors.

It was around -11C with clear skies yesterday. No wind, so the air didn't hurt the faces so much.

Snow last night! Just a couple of inches, but it is wet and that is good.

What's so great about snow?
Maybe it's just that for me it mostly means I have to use more heating, and can't go for long walks.
I suppose it is cozy if you would stay in and have more than adequate heating.
For us (those living in a desert during a ten year drought) it means water. Hopefully, more of it soaks into the ground than evaporates in the very dry air.
