Oh, the weather outside is...

  - Some would say both. I insist on PILSNER! -and of course fjords and all that...:)

I did buy a Norwegian beer over here. Worse Eurolager I've found best was Lithuanian. Even Russian beer was better.

Apparently NZ hopped pilsners are good (I like them). Our normal beers is suitably crap my taste buds are not patriotic.

I suppose the Fjordlands or Cristchurch area might have some decent beer (pilsner/lager type)? Also, any news regarding the wrecked camp site of Gunn's camp (Hollyford Valley) would be appreciated. I read about the flood damage earlier (somewhere). When I'm going to visit the islands of yours, it would be nice if this camp was still available - though I see that it might just be a dream (cost of repair).

Not to familiar with what you're referencing. Recent floods in Canterbury?

Not to familiar with exact sites in said floods.

Raining now.

Camps permanently closed.

...is great. Few degrees sub-zero C and snowing. It's been snowing for days & will continue to do so for a week or so and temps are supposed to stay sub zero at least until xmas so it'll be white which is always nice but not likely anymore. The only days with temps above zero were 5th & 6th which royally screwed my Independence day ice lantern production. We have slightly more snow than long term average & slightly colder than average but it also means that everything is pure white & lovely and nothing is wet. In short this feels like a proper winter.

Warm temperatures and raining for nearly two week straight here in southern Spain. It's as if we were still in October.

My driveway this morning with a surprise in form of a tree I had to saw & drag away for the sake of convenience before leaving and the scenery when arriving home after few hours of less-than-hectic-plowing; I didn't bother with the snow blower. The house is hiding behind the apple trees. Without mountains it doesn't get much better in daylight.

Snow can make wonderful pictures! Thanks for letting me enjoy winter from a great distance! :D

That's gorgeous! It's what winter should look like. :yup:

´Np, the snow did most if not all of the scenery anyway ;) - I'm just an outsider observing before deers mess up the powdery untouched snow next night but I'll repost something like this next summer when the sun is burning NM for you to have a cooling thought.

I quite agree. I've been living here 21yrs and I don't think I've ever appreciated the view as much as today.

I like Snow not sure I could have months of it. Generally don't have to deal with it much 1-3 days a year or travel to alpine areas.

Damp winds coming up off Antarctica though. At least snow is kind of a dry cold.

More rain today yay.

Summertime for the penguins!

Snow can be wet, dry, several points inbetween... people who don't live in regions that get a lot of snow tend to think it's bizarre to differentiate between wet snow and dry snow. It's all made of water and water is wet, right?

Not always. Dry snow won't make a snowball, and if you accidentally stick your bare hand into it (if you fall and aren't wearing gloves), you can actually cut yourself.

More moisture in the air.

Cold day here is kinda like Scotland. Wet, damp you can feel it in your bones and breathing (I have mild asthma).

So I'll pick cold day with snow vs cold and wet.

Although when snow is melting and it's also cold and wet.....

Had some epic rainfall last few years as well. Might be coastal thing idk.

How's the snow situation down in your neck of the woods? We have thin white blanket here but not much to write home about..

Enough to get annoyed, not enough for skiing.

You guys clearly have selected wrong place for settling. Last weekend Lillehammer looked awesome and on Friday & yesterday Beitostølen even better though the temps could've been friendlier.

This made me - again - thinking of spending some time in Norway in winter. On clearly needs to do the Holmenkollen, Lillehammer, Trondheim & Beitostølen CC ski tracks on skis, not just by hiking/walking. Drammen only hosts sprints so I can ignore that.

Good choice but melting snow, especially after a months of sub-zero temps rather than after few days, is nowhere near as bad as raining especially if one prepares for it. Snow can plowed into ditches and made into mounds near them or on locations where melting snow later on doesn't cause much of an issue. A bit of extra work when plowing but shortens considerably the annoying wet melting period where one is supposed to have grass/flowers/veggies and whatnot growing - more space obviously helps.
On the other hand skiing on shorts with or even without a shirt in the spring when sun is high up and temps around 15C is bloody brilliant. I could make a long list of nice things that snow makes possible but I'll just proclaim this day the first annual Snow Appreciation Day. Hey, Towel Day started small, too.

On topic: -5C today and two days of expected freedom from plowing as next snow storm is about to arrive Tuesday evening.

I'm up in Tromsø so snow will come eventually. The problem is that we get more and more of those stints of mild weather where the top layer melts and then freezes again when the temp falls again so everything gets all icy and useless.

Snow is nice, if you are a teen and on the school break. Otherwise... it can be very annoying; I recall a few years ago when it was snowing here for a full week, I couldn't even go for my daily walk.
