Reports are popping up about a shooting on a youth summercamp some miles from Oslo. Confirmed by the prime minister. A person desguised as a cop started the shooting.

An exchange of fire has also been reported on Utøya, where there was an AUF meeting. (The Labour party's youth orgianization). Someone in a police uniform arguably said he was there as a responce to the terrorism attack in Oslo. Then, moments later, there was an exchange of firearm discharges. No more information currently exists on this.

Also of note, Norway has now raised its alert level.

Sounds like things got way more serious, but my theory is that that is an unconnected crazy guy who wants revenge against AP for letting in too many immigrants...

While Denmark has a larger navy, and slightly larger air force and peacetime army, I believe Norway's army is larger when fully mobilized. Not sure. 120.000 or there abouts.

At least one medical helicopter and several ambulances has been dispatched towards the AUF camp. No words yet on what kind of casualties.

As to the Gaddafi theory:

Note that Gaddafi did plan a similar attack against Norway in the 70's IIRC. Back then the plan was foiled when one of the Norwegian guys hired and tricked by Libyan intelligence went to the police because he got suspicious of some of the cargo he was payed to transport.

I still think it sounds a bit far fetched that Gaddafi would actually do this now, but it certainly is possible.

Why Norway of all freaking places. Why use a car bomb? Where did he get the assets from? And why isn't he crowing about it like usual? And why shoot up a Youth meeting for the lovving Social Democrats?

Hey, you could walk some doods over to Tunisia, hop them onto a boat to Italy, have them trek across the whole of Europe, cross the Great Belt Bridge and go all the way to Oslo... I suppose somewhere along the way they're going to need to grab a car, fill it with fertilizer, get some guns, find target(s) and do the deed? Yeah, no. If that were the case, why not just blow up Berlin or something.

The leader of the Progress Party has been quite conservative with her statements so far, focusing mostly on helping the wounded and those who have lost loved ones.

Politically, this might not be as bad as it could be.


Also, many more dead people have been found within the buildings after the police searched through them.

Could be some sort of Mumbai situation going on, but its early and things are chaotic and rumors or completely unrelated events could be confusing things. I remember reports of things that didn't really happen during the 9/11 attacks.

Edit: Though the shooting location is where the Prime Minister was supposed to be today so its looking likely its connected.

Is it possible that the car bomb ruptured a gas pipe in the building and caused a secondary explosion? From the one building it looked like some long heavy objects were propelled from the upper floors of the adjoining section as opposed to coming from the ground.

Could be. Although from my limited experience gas fires tend to burn even past the initial rupture. And there's been no mention of a gas fire. Moreover, there didn't seem to be anything that looks like a gas line has ruptured - no torn pavement mostly.
