Olso, Norway, hit by explosions

BBC is also reporting that the PM was scheduled to be at that rally today, but wasn't.

This is starting to sound like nazi infiltration, with the help of the irish. How is that for fingerpointing?

The prime minister was supposed to attend the meeting on the island according to BBC

Anyways bed time, I hope the Danish plot to restore Skane goes well. Soon you won't even understand yourself.

There's still lots of shooting at Utøya! That's not some random incidence.

Anti-terror police has arrived in full force though, hopefully that situation will be under control soon.

That's the Guardian a notable right wing rag.

Could be. Although from my limited experience gas fires tend to burn even past the initial rupture. And there's been no mention of a gas fire. Moreover, there didn't seem to be anything that looks like a gas line has ruptured - no torn pavement mostly.

I was talking about a line up in the building. These would have auto shut off pressure valves lower in the building.

I'm pointing fingers at Sami, Inuits and the Danes. :(

It must be the rampant alcoholism.

That makes some measure of sense. And would explain the partial damage. Gas could still be in the lines and venting especially if the picture was taken soon after. Be interesting to see what it looks like in a few hours.

The leader of the Progress Party has been quite conservative with her statements so far, focusing mostly on helping the wounded and those who have lost loved ones.

Politically, this might not be as bad as it could be. :)

At least we're only having LOCAL elections this year.

I was at work six or seven blocks away and could feel the building shake a little from the blast, though our windows held. Got out of there and went home, didn't see anything on the way to the bus except a few ambulances and fire trucks heading in.

BBC reports 5 injuried in the shooting

F%&!! I have a friend with almost the same name, gave me too much of a scare before I read correctly.

Seems that guy is going to be okay at least.

Any Norwegian insinuating that this was done by Sami people will be throwing an insult that's completely unprecedented.

This smells too much of Al-Qaeda-like attacks. First bombs and then people dressed as police attacking somewhere else.

Rumor has it that something-something Globalist Jihad has taken responsibility for today...

Latest news are that ambulances are not allowed into Utøya (the island we're all talking about now), because there's too much shooting.

UPDATE: jihadist forums say a group called "HELPERS OF THE GLOBAL JIHAD" might be responsible for the attacks in norway

Still awaiting confirmation.

4 People dead at Utøya according to BBC world news.

Twitter guy B.J Röberg: "I've had a tragic message from Utøya. Sadly it seems lives have been lost. So far no confirmation about who has been killed."

Original message: "Jeg har tragisk melding fra Utøya. Det ser dessverre ut til at liv har gått tapt. Foreløpig ikke bekreftet hvem det i såfall er som er drept"

Fortunately, there were minimal deaths and casualties.

Still a tragic event, but compared to some of the other bombings in the last decade, this (so far) seems mild. Norway was very fortunate to not have too many present at the attack site.

Of course, one death is always one too many. My condolences to all those affected.

I'm not going to be surprised if it's some sort of Islamic extremists, but of course, who knows. Could just be random nutters.

Several dead are supposedly still in the bombed buildings and the number of killed at Utøya is unclear. It's too early to say they've been fortunate..

If the Danes should ever feel inclined to go beserker on our fellow Scandinavians, it would be the Swedes, our ever lasting rivals to world domination.

Jokes aside, if Gadaffi has anything to do with this he better find a very deep hole to crawl into. It wouldn't only be the Norwegians that would go after him, but the Danes, Swedes and Finnish would gladly want to join the fun too. Beserker rage - don't mess with us. But IMO Gadaffi seems like an unlikely candidate behind this.

That's true. The natural chaos of such an event is skewing the statistics.

I suppose like many I'm just guilty of optimism.

Hope the numbers don't increase too much from this however. We'll have a clearer picture within 24 hours... until then, we just have to hope for the best.
